Mejdynaroden Sofia Film Fest (Sofia International
Film Fetival) —— It may be little
known in »the West« but the biggest film
festival in South Eastern Europe is growing
fast in scope, acclaim and popularity.
It takes place in March every year,
having started in 1997 as a rock festival
with some music videos. However under
the leadership of Stefan Kitanov it
has grown to its current size. The film
festival isn’t all about celluloid. A carnival
atmosphere surrounds the screenings
and there can hardly be a better
time to be in Sofia.

Sofia Dance Week —— An international
festival for contemporary dance which
takes place in autumn every year. The
organizers have the ambition to promote
contemporary dance theatre in
Bulgaria and bring about a change in
public perception.

Boyanska tzarkva (Boyana church)
—— This church is a UNESCO World
Heritage site and one of the few complete
and perfectly preserved medieval
monuments with murals from the 11th
century. There is a nice garden and this
is a good chance to see a perfect example
of the so called »Bulgarian Renaissance«.

Sofia Jazz Peak —— Sofia Jazz Peak has
been standing in the centre of Sofia’s
musical life since the spring of 2003.
The festival is organized by Cantus Firmus
and Jazz FM Radio. Since 2006 it
has had two editions – spring and autumn.
The festival’s concept is based on
an open definition of jazz, paving the
way for contemporary jazz, world music
and soul artists, many of whom have hit
Bulgarian stages since it all began. Sofia
Jazz Peak quickly became the most important
high scale jazz festival in South
Eastern Europe.
