62% of the 200,000-MT optimum yield. The landings<br />

data are necessary for calculating survivorship<br />

from the previous year's biomass estimate.<br />

Monthly landings, age composition, and weightat-age<br />

data for 1987 were obtained from CRIP (tables<br />

3-5. For data sources for years before 1987, see<br />

Methot 1986). The CRIP port sampling program<br />

collected monthly anchovy samples from randomly<br />

selected fishing boats. Hundreds to thousands of<br />

fish were measured, and age was determined from<br />

otolith readings (W. Garcia F., pers. comm.). The<br />

age composition from the autumn fishery reveals<br />
