A hot aqueous or methanol extract of the crude drug at concentrations of
50 mg/disc was not mutagenic in the Ames test in Salmonella typhimurium
strains TA98 and TA100 (39). The essential oil inhibited formation of
DNA adducts with aflatoxin B1 by inhibiting activation in rat liver microsomes,
thus demonstrating antimutagenic activity. The median inhibitory
concentration was 10 μl/disc (40).
