Pesticide residues<br />

The recommended maximum limit of aldrin and dieldrin is not more<br />

guidelines <strong>on</strong> assessing quality of herbal medicines with reference to c<strong>on</strong>taminants<br />

and residues (16).<br />

Radioactive residues<br />

Where applicable, c<strong>on</strong>sult the <str<strong>on</strong>g>WHO</str<strong>on</strong>g> guidelines <strong>on</strong> assessing quality of<br />

herbal medicines with reference to c<strong>on</strong>taminants and residues (16).<br />

Chemical assay<br />

C<strong>on</strong>tains not less than 3.3% essential oil (v/w) (5–8).<br />

Major chemical c<strong>on</strong>stituents<br />

C<strong>on</strong>tains 2–8% essential oil, the major c<strong>on</strong>stituents of which are 1,8-cineole<br />

(20–40%), (+)--terpinyl acetate (30–42%), -terpineol (4–45%),<br />

lim<strong>on</strong>ene (6%), and smaller amounts of linalool and linalool acetate,<br />

am<strong>on</strong>g others (13, 20–22). The st<strong>ru</strong>ctures of 1,8-cineole, (+)--terpinyl<br />

acetate and -terpineol are presented below.<br />
