Carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, impairment of fertility
An aqueous extract of the crude drug was not mutagenic in the Ames test
at a concentration of 40.0–50.0 mg/plate in Salmonella typhimurium
strains TA98 and TA100 (44, 45). The extract was also not mutagenic
when administered by intraperitoneal injection to mice at a dose of 4.0 mg/
kg bw, equal to 10–40 times the amount used in humans (44). An infusion
of the crude drug inhibited aflatoxin B1-induced mutagenesis in Salmonella
typhimurium strains TA98 and TA100 at a concentration of 40.0 mg/
plate (46). Metabolic activation was required for activity.
