Oleum Ricini

Pregnancy: non-teratogenic effects
Oleum Ricini as a laxative is contraindicated in pregnancy before 40 weeks
of gestation, due to potential induction of labour.
Nursing mothers
Oleum Ricini is contraindicated in breastfeeding mothers. Ricinoleic acid
is absorbed into the bloodstream and is excreted into human breast milk.
In suckling infants it has a purgative effect (13).

Posology

As a laxative: single daily dose of 1–10 ml (40). Dose for induction of labour:
under medical supervision, maximum single dose of 4–60 ml (33,
34). Topical use: fixed oil (5).
