An aqueous extract of the bark was not mutagenic in the Ames test in
Salmonella typhimurium strains TA98 and TA100 at concentrations up to
40.0 mg per agar plate (41). Magnolol at concentrations of 10 -9 and 10 -7 M
reduced ferrous sulfate-induced lipid peroxidation and reduction in sperm
motility and protected sperm from lipid peroxidation in vitro (42).
