Society of Manufacturing Engineers 

For more than eight decades, the 


(SME) has been serving the needs 

of its stakeholders and manufacturing 

in general through its various products 

and services. As the premier manufacturing 

knowledge resource throughout the global 

manufacturing community, the Society’s goal is 

to keep manufacturing moving forward in 2013. 

SME has a wide range of products and services 

that it offers, as well as many different ways 

it interacts with individuals and companies in 

manufacturing. A significant opportunity and 

challenge is to make sure that we effectively 

utilize all of SME’s resources, working together 

to achieve a high level of synergy among all our 

SME activities. 

If we look at all the things that SME does, 

you can see why SME is “making it possible” 

for manufacturing to move forward and be 

a strong foundation for our country and the 

world to prosper.

An important aspect of SME, as a not-for-profit 

organization, is that the revenue we receive 

from our products and services gives the 

Society the ability to give back in ways that 

help SME members to advance in their careers; 

help inspire the next-generation workforce 

in the form of scholarships and support of 

STEM (science, technology, engineering and 

mathematics) education and PRIME schools; 

engaging in student competitions; helping 

with workforce development of our returning 

veterans; promotions to improve the image of 

manufacturing; and many other activities. 

Making it possible requires a lot of work by 

a lot of people. And, we have the true power 

of our Society, which is our volunteers, those 

individuals who give their time for their own 

personal reasons to help make SME better and 

more meaningful to more people. 

SME is focused on “making it possible” for you,

FOUNDATION 

The SME Education Foundation (SME-EF) is committed to inspiring, 

supporting and preparing the next generation of manufacturing engineers 

and technologists in the advancement of manufacturing education. Created 

by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in 1979, SME-EF has provided 

more than $33 million since 1980 in grants, scholarships and awards 

through its partnerships with corporations, organizations, foundations and 

individual donors. For more than 30 years, the Foundation has:

activities at the K-12 levels. 

• Created cool and relevant websites to spark interest in how everyday objects
