B. Board Directions<br />

B.1 Board <strong>of</strong> Governor’s Directions<br />

The Board <strong>of</strong> Governors has provided direction for the College’s Strategic Plan through the<br />

following Ends Policies.<br />

Vision and Mission (A-05)<br />

The College’s Mission Statement presented at the front <strong>of</strong> this document was established by the<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Governors in June 2002. This Mission Statement reflects the unique results that our<br />

communities require from the College and emphasizes learning for employment and<br />

responsiveness to support the economic development <strong>of</strong> the communities that the College<br />

serves. In June 2002, the Board reaffirmed the College’s Vision Statement also presented at<br />

the front <strong>of</strong> this document. The Vision Statement reflects how the College will grow and lead in<br />

the future.<br />

The Mission and Vision Statements are dynamic and memorable statements that guide and<br />

focus our future energy and efforts.<br />

During 2008/09, the Board established a task force to undertake a regular five-year review <strong>of</strong><br />

the Vision and Mission policy. In May 2009 the Board again reaffirmed the Vision Statement<br />

and the Mission Statement as shown at the front <strong>of</strong> this document.<br />

In March 2011, the Strategic Discussion Task Force <strong>of</strong> the Board recommended that the Board<br />

consider, on a semi-annual basis, and based on current environmental scan information,<br />

engaging in a formal assessment <strong>of</strong> the currency <strong>of</strong> vision, mission and strategic directions.<br />

The Board approved the recommendation in May 2011 and directed that a plan be developed to<br />

review its strategic architecture. College leaders returned with a plan to review and revise as<br />

necessary the College’s Vision, Mission, and Strategic Directions commencing January 2012<br />

and finishing June 2013. The Board approved the plan in May 2011.<br />

Student Success (A-35)<br />

The Board’s Student Success policy affirms its commitment to student success as an outcome.<br />

The Board has established the following indicators <strong>of</strong> student success:<br />

The student has obtained his/her educational goal <strong>of</strong> a diploma/certificate/applied<br />

degree.<br />

The graduate has attained the ability to think critically and analytically.<br />

The graduate was satisfied with the usefulness <strong>of</strong> his/her college education in<br />

achieving his/her employment goals after graduation.<br />

The employer was satisfied with the graduate’s overall preparation for the type <strong>of</strong><br />

work the graduate was doing.<br />
