For business management positions, skills gaps are a critical issue. Across Canada, management skills<br />

were among the seven most frequent skills shortages reported by Canadian businesses based on 2007<br />

surveys <strong>of</strong> managers <strong>of</strong> local and provincial/territorial Chambers <strong>of</strong> <strong>Commerce</strong> and business members <strong>of</strong><br />

the Canadian Chamber <strong>of</strong> <strong>Commerce</strong>. 33<br />

Ontario Job Futures provides occupational pr<strong>of</strong>iles with employment projections for the period 2009 to<br />

2013 for the following management occupations:<br />

Financial Managers (NOC 0111)<br />

Purchasing Managers (NOC 0113)<br />

Insurance, Real Estate and Financial Brokerage Managers (NOC 0121)<br />

Banking, Credit and Other Investment Managers (NOC 0122)<br />

Retail Trade Managers (NOC 0621)<br />

Manufacturing Managers (NOC 0911)<br />

Administrative Officers (NOC 1221)<br />

In most cases, the employment prospects for business management occupations will be Average<br />

between 2009 and 2013. Two exceptions to this are Manufacturing Managers, for whom employment<br />

potential will be Limited to 2013, and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Occupations in Business Services to Management, for<br />

whom employment prospects are Good in the period from 2009 to 2013.<br />

Regional<br />

Where regional data are available, occupational outlooks for the Western region mirror the provincial<br />

trends. In addition, reports from local planning boards were examined to identify other factors affecting<br />

The Elgin Middlesex Oxford Workforce Planning and Development Board reported a potential<br />

shortfall for Senior Managers in the near to mid‐term future, with more than half the Senior<br />

Managers in Health, Education, Social and Community Services & Membership Organizations<br />

and in Social, Community & Correctional Services aged 45 or older. 34<br />
