Chapter 4. Prospective Students Survey<br />

A. Introduction<br />

Objectives<br />

The primary objective <strong>of</strong> this survey is to determine levels <strong>of</strong> interest in the business degree program<br />

being proposed at Fanshawe College among “Prospects”. Specifically, the objectives are to determine<br />

and/or understand:<br />

levels <strong>of</strong> interest in a business degree <strong>of</strong>fered at a college, and the preferred type <strong>of</strong> institution<br />

importance <strong>of</strong> factors in choosing a degree<br />

attitudes about a college‐ versus a university‐obtained degree<br />

levels <strong>of</strong> interest in each <strong>of</strong> the four program areas proposed (<strong>Marketing</strong>, Accounting, Human<br />

Resources Management, and Enterprise Management) and the specializations falling under each<br />

area<br />

appeal <strong>of</strong> delivery mechanisms – fully online and/or hybrid delivery<br />

This survey seeks to understand the attitudes and behaviours <strong>of</strong> key segments the Lawrence Kinlin<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Business is considering.<br />

1. Students who are currently in a business program at another college or university who may have<br />

considered Fanshawe College at the time they were applying to post‐secondary institutions<br />

(more likely to be 20 to 24 years old)<br />

2. Students currently in high school (under 20 years old)<br />

3. Prospective Students who are currently employed/other, i.e., mature students (more likely to be<br />

25 plus years old)<br />

4. International students/immigrants<br />

Methodology<br />

The survey was administered online between May 6 and May 21, 2011.<br />

Panellists were identified and pulled from Academica’s Proprietary Consumer Panel. From this panel, we<br />

targeted those who met the following criteria:<br />

applied to colleges only OR both colleges and universities<br />

applied to business programs at the time <strong>of</strong> completion <strong>of</strong> the 2009, 2010 or 2011 UCAS<br />

surveys<br />

identified as living in areas <strong>of</strong> South western Ontario or GTA OR identified as international<br />

students at the time <strong>of</strong> completion <strong>of</strong> the 2009, 2010 or 2011 UCAS surveys<br />
