The curriculum is quite different between the university programs and Fanshawe’s proposed Bachelor of
Commerce (Digital Marketing) program. The delivery methods will also be quite different. Fanshawe’s
mandatory co‐op and live client projects illustrate the applied nature of their proposed program.
During the employer interviews conducted by Academica Group, one employer stated clearly a theme
that was echoed by several employers. Employers were asked to compare the graduates of university to
those of college diploma programs, and the majority strongly supported the approach for Fanshawe to
expand its offerings to include applied degrees in business.
“The problem is that we need people with a mix of practical skills and theoretical
knowledge, and college and university each seem to provide one or the other.”
(Academica, p. 7)
Fanshawe’s Bachelor of Commerce (Digital Marketing) program will have mandatory co‐op and will be
delivered using various other applied approaches including simulations, live client projects, case studies,
co‐op preparation and integration, and capstone courses in the final semester. Fanshawe’s graduates
will be job ready when they graduate, and will be readily employable having a mix of theoretical
knowledge and practical skills in digital marketing, an exceptionally vibrant and quickly growing industry.
