In the Strategic Plan Implementation strategy (Appendix B) the College has committed that Library<br />

and Media Services (LMS) will assess current print, media and digital collections and acquire<br />

resources in support <strong>of</strong> new programs, especially applied degree programs (p. 32). Further, to<br />

strengthen support for student learning, LMS will expand the provision <strong>of</strong> in‐class and open sessions<br />

to assist students to conduct academic research and assess data, and will create more electronic<br />

library guides specific to programs, subjects, and life/workplace skills (p. 29). LMS staff will create<br />

more social media tools, including podcasts, to enhance student engagement and learning support.<br />

For ease <strong>of</strong> accesses by students, LMS research staff will create additional on‐demand learning<br />

opportunities so that students can access them at a time and place <strong>of</strong> their convenience (p. 18).<br />

6.1.2 A New “Information and Learning Commons”<br />

The College has committed to renewal and expansion <strong>of</strong> the Learning Resource Centre/Library to<br />

increase space for current and growing enrolment and student research, and a much more current<br />

learner support environment. In the Strategic Plan Implementation strategy the College revealed<br />

plans to establish an Integrated Learning Centre in the form <strong>of</strong> an “Information and Learning<br />

Commons” to serve as the primary destination for students seeking information and assistance. This<br />

new facility will serve as a Teaching and Learning Commons space linked to the traditional role <strong>of</strong><br />

the Library but integrating new technological teaching and learning support structures for both<br />

students and staff (Appendix B, p. 27).<br />
