Background:<br />
- One year <strong>of</strong> <strong>Implementation</strong>: Project signed in January 2011, kick <strong>of</strong>f meeting organized in<br />
March 2011 and inception phase completed (March – July) - full-scale implementation<br />
started in August 2011.<br />
MAP Quality Scheme (mark) framework developed through intensive consultation, awaiting the<br />
Ministry’s approval.<br />
National MAP standard developed and revised in collaboration with EOS and with the support <strong>of</strong> a<br />
technical committee - consultations with WHO / FAO / SPS focal points.<br />
MAP SC’s fully operating providing daily support to value chain, 745 members <strong>of</strong> the value chain<br />
outreached for support (45 processors / exporters, 100 pre-processors, 600 growers covering 7000<br />
feddans).<br />
16 technical guidelines / manuals developed, 4 e-learning courses, 12 different on-site training<br />
sessions conducted, demo on traceability system developed, 3 new varieties introduced.<br />
A new model for drying facility developed including s<strong>of</strong>tware, demonstration case to be launched<br />
soon.<br />
Technical missions to Germany (Feb 2012) & Serbia (Sept 2012) conducted to explore new verities,<br />
get introduced to modern machinery & transfer production knowledge & knowhow.<br />
MAP web portal developed & fully running.<br />
2 studies on Stevia & Frozen Herbs presented to target groups through 4 workshops in UE & Cairo<br />
(in collaboration with AEC & Food Export Council (FEC)).<br />
6 techno-economic studies (Chives, Parsley Cross, Oregano, Chervil, Lovage, Savory) under<br />
development.<br />
Arrangements for setting up an export consortium is going, 28 potential members identified, 14<br />
individual follow up meetings conducted and 4 workshops organized for the target groups.<br />
First version <strong>of</strong> Egyptian Exporters Directory finalized.<br />
Technical missions to FI Europe Fair in Paris (Nov 2011) & FI in Brazil (Sept 2012) conducted: Product<br />
development & matchmaking opportunities identified.<br />
Joint program with SIPPO in place, visit <strong>of</strong> SIPPO to 15 Egyptian MAP exporting companies (5<br />
Egyptian companies selected for Bio-Fach 2013) 1 starting cooperation with SEBA.
<strong>EMAP</strong> – SIPPO Cooperation<br />
Agreement for SIPPO Egypt pavilion for next Bio-Fach & FI in 2013.<br />
Institutions and <strong>EMAP</strong> invited to attend SIPPO’s training at SIAL (Oct 2012).<br />
Meetings with 15 Exporters for beneficiaries identification.<br />
5 Egyptian companies to be supported by SIPPO for Bio-Fach 2013.<br />
Fluent communication with SIPPO to follow up on agreements & assess possible new<br />
joint activities (missions, etc.).<br />

<strong>EMAP</strong> Newsletter (collaboration with CFI) as a first issue – to be part <strong>of</strong> the portal.<br />
Technical committee role in defining target crops, technical manual, national<br />
standard, identification <strong>of</strong> Serbia for transfer <strong>of</strong> know how in machinery and<br />
consultation on drying facilities.<br />
Baseline study completed and to be presented at the next SC meeting.<br />
The Serbia Story: very useful and effective technical mission. One major Serbian<br />
machinery company requested to visit MAP Egyptian producers directly after the<br />
mission to identify opportunities <strong>of</strong> cooperation. The visit was organized by <strong>EMAP</strong><br />
during 18-20 September 2012, potential opportunities identified. A follow up<br />
technical mission to Egypt is planned in October 2012.<br />
