Summary<br />

Viable modified gravities reproduce a sudden singularity, which<br />

may be circumvented in the scalar-tensor picture.<br />

The transition to a phantom phase probably occurs in the class of<br />

the so-called viable f(R) gravities, where the EoS parameter<br />

presents an oscillating behavior, but no future singularity or Little<br />

Rip occurs.<br />

The analysis of a simple model of f(R) gravity, and its test with<br />

the Sne Ia reveals that the f(R) gravities can describe late-time<br />

acceleration with great accuracy.<br />

f(R,T) gravities seem to be ruled out, since the non-standard<br />

coupling among matter and gravity introduce an anomalous<br />

behavior in the matter perturbations.
