Then the Cobalt undergoes a β-decay, emitt<strong>in</strong>g an<br />

electron and an anti-neutr<strong>in</strong>o. Wu found that most<br />

of the electrons would be emitted <strong>in</strong>to the positive<br />

z-direction.<br />

If the process is “mirrored”, the sp<strong>in</strong> of the nucleus<br />

po<strong>in</strong>ts along the negative z-axis, but the electrons<br />

would still be emitted <strong>in</strong>to the positive z-direction.<br />

This different behaviour is called axial-vector and<br />

vector for sp<strong>in</strong> and momentum (and respective<br />

similar quantities).
