Road Show Presentation on New Refinery, Clean Fuel Projects
Event organized by KNPC, attended by sister companies
KNPC recently organized a meeting attended by a large number of
K-Company representatives at the Unity Centre in Ahmadi to introduce the
road show of its New Refinery and Clean Fuel Projects.
The meeting was inaugurated by KNPC DC & DMD for Planning & Local
Marketing, Bakheet Al-Rasheedi.
The Manager of the New Refinery Project, Khaled Al-Awadhi, said that the
facility - which will be located at Mina Al-Zour area with a roughly KD 4
billion cost and due to be commissioned in 2018 - was a national, strategic
and environmental project to provide energy-generating stations with lowsulfur
fuel in a safe and uninterrupted way.
“The new refinery,” Al-Awadhi said, “will be able to produce 225,000 barrels
of low-sulfur fuel oil per day and 239,000 b/d in case of refining a mixture of
heavy oils, and has been designed to cope with the State’s environmental
targets of improving the air quality by reducing sulfur dioxide emissions.”
He added that the new refinery will be the largest and most advanced of
its kind worldwide, provide job opportunities for the private sector and pave
the way for the revival of the economic situation throughout the country,
especially in the domains of housing, transport, freight, communications
and alimentation.
Speaking of the Clean Fuel Project, Project Manager Abdulla Fahad Al-Ajmi
said that it was meant to develop KNPC refineries to become an Integrated
Refining Complex covering the needs of different markets.
“First among the goals of this KD 4.68 billion budget project was to improve
the environmental performance of the refineries, to boost the safety and
operational approbation and to maintain an optimal utilization of the energy,”
Al-Ajmi said.
