KOC C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid recently received<br />

the Chairman of the <strong>Kuwait</strong> Blind Association<br />

(KBA) Fayez Al-Azmi, who paid tribute to the<br />

company for taking the initiative to print a book<br />

titled: “From the Well to the Carrier” in Braille.<br />

Al-Azmi said that the book will provide KBA with<br />

basic information about the oil industry.<br />

During their meeting, Al-Azmi expressed his<br />

appreciation for KOC’s interest and care for the<br />

blind. For his part, Al-Rushaid stressed that this<br />

segment of society deserves care and support<br />

from everyone.<br />

Al-Azmi pointed out that the book has been<br />

printed in Arabic and English and can be<br />

distributed, at a later stage, to Arab and foreign<br />

countries in order to provide the blind with<br />

information about the mechanisms of production<br />

and the nature of the work that KOC engages in.<br />

For his part, Manager of Public Relations and<br />

Information, Abdul Khaleq Al-Ali, said that such<br />

an initiative, and other initiatives taken by the<br />

company, stem from the company’s commitment<br />

to fulfill its role in the development of society,<br />

and to provide as many services as possible to<br />

different segments of society.<br />

Road Show <strong>Presentation</strong> on New Refinery, Clean Fuel Projects<br />

Event organized by KNPC, attended by sister companies<br />

KNPC recently organized a meeting attended by a large number of<br />

K-<strong>Company</strong> representatives at the Unity Centre in Ahmadi to introduce the<br />

road show of its New Refinery and Clean Fuel Projects.<br />

The meeting was inaugurated by KNPC DC & DMD for Planning & Local<br />

Marketing, Bakheet Al-Rasheedi.<br />

The Manager of the New Refinery Project, Khaled Al-Awadhi, said that the<br />

facility - which will be located at Mina Al-Zour area with a roughly KD 4<br />

billion cost and due to be commissioned in 2018 - was a national, strategic<br />

and environmental project to provide energy-generating stations with lowsulfur<br />

fuel in a safe and uninterrupted way.<br />

“The new refinery,” Al-Awadhi said, “will be able to produce 225,000 barrels<br />

of low-sulfur fuel oil per day and 239,000 b/d in case of refining a mixture of<br />

heavy oils, and has been designed to cope with the State’s environmental<br />

targets of improving the air quality by reducing sulfur dioxide emissions.”<br />

He added that the new refinery will be the largest and most advanced of<br />

its kind worldwide, provide job opportunities for the private sector and pave<br />

the way for the revival of the economic situation throughout the country,<br />

especially in the domains of housing, transport, freight, communications<br />

and alimentation.<br />

Speaking of the Clean Fuel Project, Project Manager Abdulla Fahad Al-Ajmi<br />

said that it was meant to develop KNPC refineries to become an Integrated<br />

Refining Complex covering the needs of different markets.<br />

“First among the goals of this KD 4.68 billion budget project was to improve<br />

the environmental performance of the refineries, to boost the safety and<br />

operational approbation and to maintain an optimal utilization of the energy,”<br />

Al-Ajmi said.<br />

<strong>Kuwait</strong> International <strong>Oil</strong> <strong>Conference</strong>, Exhibition<br />

KOC Paper Warmly Welcomed<br />

HSE Senior Safety Engineer (WK) Mastan Sheikh recently delivered a<br />

working paper titled: “Main Initiatives Towards HSE Excellence In KOC<br />

West <strong>Kuwait</strong> <strong>Oil</strong>fields” during the <strong>Kuwait</strong> International <strong>Oil</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> &<br />

Exhibition recently held at <strong>Kuwait</strong> Hilton Hotel & Resort.<br />

The paper focused on the HSE Team initiatives and shed light on the<br />

methods that were adopted for their execution in West <strong>Kuwait</strong> fields and<br />

the results in which they culminated.<br />

The presentation was warmly welcomed by specialists amid an active<br />

interaction by the attendance with Snr. Engineer Mastan, who showed<br />

real interest in sharing the best practices learned from the KOC working<br />

paper.<br />

Al-Rasheedi Issues Book for BS-160<br />

Congratulated by Gas Operations Manager Al-Otaibi<br />

Gas Operations Manager Mohammad Al-Otaibi recently received<br />

Controller-1 Mubarak Al-Rasheedi at Booster Station 160, who presented<br />

him with a copy of his book titled “BS-160 Operating Procedure, Simplified<br />

Manual.”<br />

The Simplified Operation Manual aims to provide a practical reference and<br />

vital assistance to all operators and employees working at the new station.<br />

Manager Al-Otaibi congratulated Al-Rasheedi for his distinctive efforts,<br />

which comprise a detailed and illustrated explanation on how to operate the<br />

new station by all employees; especially that BS-160 incorporates state of<br />

the art technologies with respect to <strong>Oil</strong> & Gas industry standards.<br />

The International Traffic <strong>Conference</strong><br />

Organized By KPC<br />

KPC recently organized the International Traffic <strong>Conference</strong> under the<br />

patronage of the Managing Director for Governmental, Parliamentary, PR<br />

and Information Relations Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.<br />

The aim of the conference was to bring together members from various<br />

government authorities and a selection of international experts to discuss<br />

ways in which to deal with <strong>Kuwait</strong>’s growing traffic issues.<br />

Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled added that KPC has a long history of adopting the<br />

concepts of Social Responsibility and exerts its utmost to foster this principle<br />

within KPC and its subsidiaries, as well as beyond the oil sector through the<br />

activities it sponsors, such as the traffic conference.<br />

Individuals from KPC, the strategic partner of the conference, thanked the<br />

organizers, participants, and media sponsors of the international event that<br />

was held at the The Regency Hotel on January 21-22, 2013.<br />

The ITC agenda was held under the title of “Traffic Congestion…Solutions”<br />

and was comprised of a host of presentations conducted by officials,<br />

chairmen, advisors, consultants, specialists and researchers from inside<br />

and outside the country, who shed light on their experiences and the latest<br />

practical and technical solutions to this problem, which constitutes a source<br />

of concern for the governments and peoples of the whole world.<br />

KOC Takes Part in Awareness <strong>Campaign</strong> at Ahmadi Schools<br />

Commitment to social issues highlighted<br />

Within the framework of KOC’s commitment to its social responsibilities,<br />

and in a bid to consolidate the concepts of environment preservation by<br />

each and every citizen, especially the younger generations, the HSE Team<br />

of the Corporate Projects Group organized an awareness activity at Ibn<br />

Majed Elementary School (Boys) at Ahmadi City.<br />

Engineers Hussein Khalil and Mohammad Al-Meliji directed presentations<br />

for students and teachers on issues that ensure a safe and healthy<br />

environment, such as limiting power and water consumption, the importance<br />

of forestation, safety on roads and fastening seat belts.<br />

The campaign also comprised a seminar, a Q&A session, and token gifts<br />

were presented to students and teachers.<br />

For its part, the school presented Manager Corporate Projects Mustafa<br />

Megdad, TL Engineer Tareq Al-Kharraz and Engineers Hussein Khalil and<br />

Mohammad Al-Meliji with commemorative shields in appreciation of the<br />

KOC initiative.<br />

KOC Conducts <strong>Presentation</strong> for Kindergarteners<br />

Organized By Heavy <strong>Oil</strong> Development Group (NK)<br />

In conformity with the KOC strategy and the care it accords to society, the<br />

Heavy <strong>Oil</strong> Development Group (NK) conducted a presentation themed<br />

“The Story of <strong>Oil</strong>” at Martyr Asrar Al-Qabandi and Al-Hiba kindergartens on<br />

January 16-17, 2013.<br />

The activity was coordinated, from KOC, by Senior Geologist Faisal Haidar<br />

and Geologist Fatima Taqi, with the collaboration of Petroleum Engineer<br />

Abdullah Al-Balam and Geologist Saad Al-Rashdan.<br />

Al-Hiba Kindergarten Director Nawal Haidar thanked the KOC team for<br />

their initiative during a meeting in which Kindergarten Guide Khoulood Al-<br />

Mufeedi took part.<br />

The presentation comprised interesting information related to the discovery<br />

of oil, its origins and ways and means of its production, exportation,<br />

utilization and materials made of oil; in addition to cautioning against its<br />

misuse. Information was presented during questions addressed to the<br />

children on the conclusion of the presentation. Kindergarten children were<br />

then presented with gifts that could help them assimilate the information<br />

they received during the presentation.<br />

On the conclusion of the initiative, coordinators from both parties were<br />

honored. The KOC Team underscored the contribution by Al-Hiba<br />

Kindergarten, of which the personnel highlighted the importance of the<br />

questions that were addressed to their children.<br />

KOC Launches Desert Greening <strong>Campaign</strong><br />

HSE Team (S&E <strong>Kuwait</strong>) recently launched a campaign to green the<br />

desert in the camping areas in the south of the country. More than<br />

1,500 willow trees were distributed and planted around the camps.<br />

Senior Environment Engineer Soud Al-Mutairi said that the campaign<br />

aimed to instill the culture of turning the desert green in the hearts<br />

of owners and campers, as well as their children and their families<br />

while spending the weekend in the desert.<br />

Al-Mutairi explained that this is the second campaign launched by<br />

HSE Team (S&E <strong>Kuwait</strong>) which planted 500 willow trees in the same<br />

area last year.<br />

The Firefighting Team also took part in the campaign and distributed<br />

fire extinguishers to the owners of the camps, and provided detailed<br />

explanations on how to use them when needed.<br />

The agricultural team of the Ahmadi Corporate Services also<br />

distributed and planted willow trees in the right places, and gave<br />

instructions on how to protect these plants to grow. Owners and<br />

campers interacted with the team members and thanked the company<br />

for its interest and eagerness to green the desert of <strong>Kuwait</strong>.<br />

HR Team (WK) Visits Asya Bent Muzahim School<br />

With the approach of the <strong>Kuwait</strong> National Day and Liberation Day<br />

celebrations, Human Resources Team (WK) visited Asya Bent Muzahim<br />

School in Ahmadi Educational Zone to help decorate the school with flags<br />

and pictures of national figures. The team was received and greeted by<br />

Headmistress Awatif Al-Najdi who welcomed this initiative.<br />

Team Leader Ali Al-Fadhli said that the company’s activities are not<br />

confined to the oil industry, but that it also handles many activities which<br />

contribute to the improvement of human resources and the community.<br />

He stressed that cooperation and concerted efforts would lead to<br />

tangible and unexpected results. He explained that the team discussed<br />

developing cooperation with the school and discussed topics of recycling,<br />

health, safety and the environment.<br />

In conclusion, the team, consisting of Ali Al-Fadhli, Iman Hamza, Nawaf<br />

Al-Kassar, Nawaf Al-Zhahameel and Ali Ashkanani distributed souvenirs<br />

to the students, while Al-Fadhli awarded a plaque to the Headmistress.<br />

KOC Honors Maj. Gen. Al-Qafidi<br />

KOC recently honored retired Major General<br />

Abdullah Al-Qafidi for his cooperation with the<br />

<strong>Company</strong> while he served at the Ministry of<br />

Interior.<br />

Al-Qafidi received a plaque from the Local<br />

Relations Team Leader Abdulrahman Al-Jaber<br />

on behalf of the company.<br />

Fields Development Group Bids Farewell to<br />

Al-Failakawi & Al-Mutairi<br />

Fields Development Group (WK) recently organized a farewell<br />

party for two of its departing employees; Talal Al-Mutairi, who<br />

moved to the Heavy <strong>Oil</strong> Group, and Abdulaziz Al-Failakawi,<br />

who moved to Gas Fields Development Group.<br />

The ceremony was attended by DMD (WK) Captain Ahmad<br />

Al-Rushaid, Fields Development Group Manager (WK) Hasan<br />

Bunain, Group TLs and a number of employees.<br />

Al-Rushaid hailed the efforts exerted by the workers,<br />

particularly the honorees, to enable the group to achieve its<br />

objectives.<br />

For his part, Bunain praised the efforts of workers and wished<br />

them success, and urged them to exert more efforts to move<br />

forward on the road to achievement and development.<br />

Fields Development Team Leader Walid Al-Khamees also<br />

delivered a speech in which he pledged to continue the effort<br />

to improve the performance of the group.<br />

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Al-Rushaid honored the<br />

departing employees while photos were taken with them.<br />

Exploration Group Bids Farewell to Munawer Ahmad<br />

Ahmad Spent 18 Years in KOC Service<br />

The Exploration Group recently organized a farewell<br />

party in honor of Geologist Munawer Ahmad at The<br />

Unity Center in Ahmadi. Munawer spent 18 years<br />

serving KOC within the Exploration Group.<br />

During the party, speeches were delivered by Group<br />

Manager Ahmad Al-Eidan, TLs and a number of<br />

colleagues from the Group.<br />

They all paid tribute to the commitment of Munawer<br />

Ahmad and his genuine contribution to Group<br />

activities, and wished him further success and all the<br />

best in his future life.<br />
