KOC C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid recently<br />
inaugurated Ahmadi’s lightings and decorations<br />
on the advent of KOC celebrations for National<br />
and Liberation <strong>Day</strong>. DMD (NK) Hosnia Hashem<br />
and a number of Group Managers, TLs and local<br />
media were also in attendance.<br />
Al-Rushaid maintained that this year’s<br />
decorations were distinguished by lighted<br />
structures which symbolized the history of<br />
<strong>Kuwait</strong>, such as a traditional tent, the Old<br />
<strong>Kuwait</strong> Wall, the Seif Palace, <strong>Kuwait</strong> Towers,<br />
the Liberation Tower and a number of structures<br />
that embodied the past and present in the State<br />
of <strong>Kuwait</strong>.<br />
During the event, Al-Rushaid invited citizens and<br />
expatriates to visit Ahmadi with their families to<br />
enjoy the city’s attractive atmosphere. He also<br />
expressed his greetings and appreciation to<br />
the wise <strong>Kuwait</strong>i leadership and the honorable<br />
people of <strong>Kuwait</strong> on the occasion of the National<br />
and Liberation <strong>Day</strong> celebrations.<br />
On her side, DMD (NK) and Ag. DMD (A&F)<br />
Hosnia Hashem said that the national<br />
celebrations were a deep-rooted tradition<br />
observed by KOC and that the <strong>Company</strong> has<br />
been engaged with decorating the city for many<br />
years as part of its social responsibilities, and<br />
that this year’s decorations reflected a traditional<br />
aspect of the State of <strong>Kuwait</strong>’s history.<br />

Ahmad added that the preparations for these<br />
occasions begin early every year by settingup<br />
concepts and preparing relevant contracts<br />
before adopting the needed specifications in<br />
order to be ready for <strong>Kuwait</strong>’s most important<br />

Al-Rushaid: KOC Has Raised Bars Thanks To Your Efforts<br />
THE 6TH <strong>Open</strong> <strong>Day</strong> For The Appointed By Circulars<br />
KOC organised the 6th <strong>Open</strong> <strong>Day</strong> for those who were appointed by<br />
circulars, at the <strong>Company</strong>’s Spring Camp in Al-Zor zone. This year’s<br />
event was distinguished by the participation of writer and poet Badr<br />
Bouresli, renowned sports commentator Khaled Al-Harban and dietician<br />
Adila Al-Sharhan.<br />
At the outset of the event, C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid enumerated the<br />
achievements of the <strong>Company</strong>’s Directorates, Groups and Teams,<br />
thanked employees for the genuine efforts they contributed to the<br />
progress of the <strong>Company</strong> and urged them to continue striving for further<br />
advancement and success.<br />
As Al-Rushaid honored the newly appointed by circulars, sporting<br />
and entertainment activities took place. But before awarding prizes to<br />
winners, he thanked North <strong>Kuwait</strong> employees who were not able to make<br />
it because of attempts under way to control the liking incident.<br />
The Black & White section, presented by poet Badr Bouresli, showed<br />
<strong>Kuwait</strong>’s ancient neighborhoods and old video footage. The act<br />
was followed by questions addressed to competitors in an intimate<br />
atmosphere recalling the old sweet and bitter days.<br />
Chef Adila Al-Sharhan then prepared an Italian dish directly on the<br />
stage. This was followed by a draw of prizes for the attendants of the<br />
<strong>Open</strong> <strong>Day</strong>.<br />
The “Nabeek Tfooz” (We Want You To Win) section, presented by<br />
veteran commentator Khaled Al-Harban, was also full of suspense and<br />
expectation with questions related to old video footage from the 70ies,<br />
dating back to the era of the giants of football.<br />
On the conclusion of the <strong>Open</strong> <strong>Day</strong>, a draw for the Grand Prix resulted in<br />
the winning of a modern car by Haitham Al-Mayyan.<br />

KOC Takes <strong>Part</strong> in ICEEN 2013 in Singapore<br />
Technical Expertise Team & Power Management Present Technical Paper<br />
KOC recently took part in the International Conference for Electrical Energy<br />
and Networks in Singapore on January 19th and 20th. A technical paper,<br />
“Techno-Economic Evaluation of Power Factor Improvement Scheme for<br />
11KV 40kA, 72 MW Main Bulk Intake Substation” was presented by Fakher<br />
Al-Zalzalah (TPL Specialist, Technical Expertise Team) and Y.V.Sridhar<br />
(TPL Specialist - Power Management Team).<br />
The technical paper contained information regarding the main bulk intake<br />
substation to improve the power factor to .95 at the source end and to improve<br />
the efficiency of the electrical network associated with the substation.<br />
At the outset of the presentation, Al-Zalzalah delivered an introductory talk<br />
on KPC and KOC and briefed the audience on information regarding overall<br />
electrical network distribution. Y.V.Sridhar presented the issues pertaining<br />
to the load profile, harmonics and economic aspects of the various studied<br />
models. The presentation was well-received and queries from participating<br />
delegates were answered by the representatives of KOC.<br />
The objective of ICEEN 2013 is to provide the platform for researchers,<br />
engineers and academicians as well as industrial professionals from all<br />
over the world to present their research and study results and development<br />
activities in Electrical Energy and Networks. The conference provided<br />
opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application<br />
experiences for future collaboration.<br />
KOC to Organize 5th Town Hall Meeting, Exhibition with Contractors<br />
KOC is due to organize its 5th Town Hall Meeting & Exhibition with<br />
Contractors under the patronage of C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid on March 5-7,<br />
2013 at Hall 8 of the <strong>Kuwait</strong> International Fairgrounds in Mishref.<br />
The three-day conference will run from 9 am to 3 pm and is intended to shed<br />
light on the strategic goals of the <strong>Company</strong>, its future plans and the cuttingedge<br />
technologies in the <strong>Oil</strong> & Gas industry.<br />
Ag. TL Contracts II, Musaed Al-Rasheed, told Energy that this year’s event<br />
encompasses 100 carefully-selected local and international companies, in<br />
addition to GCC companies that were invited to attend and participate in<br />
the event, during which 20 specialized working papers will be presented by<br />
local and world experts on the latest technologies in the <strong>Oil</strong> & Gas domain.<br />
Al-Rasheed maintained that a number of embassies, trade missions and<br />
universities are to partake in the exhibition, with KOC hosting the largest<br />
pavilion comprising 20 main groups in charge of conducting presentations<br />
and answering the queries raised by contractors on the <strong>Company</strong>’s biddings<br />
and future projects.<br />
He underscored that one of the main characteristics of the event will be<br />
observing full transparency during their direct dialogue with the company’s<br />
higher management.<br />

KOC Hosts Away <strong>Day</strong> for Diplomatic Corps<br />

KOC recently organized an Away <strong>Day</strong> at the <strong>Company</strong>’s Spring Camp for<br />
the members of the Diplomatic Corps and their families who are stationed<br />
in <strong>Kuwait</strong>. The event, which is an annual tradition, was held under the<br />
auspices of DMD (NK) and Ag. DMD (A&F) Hosnia Hashem.<br />
“<strong>Kuwait</strong> <strong>Oil</strong> <strong>Company</strong> organizes this annual tradition as a symbolic gesture<br />
of our appreciation to you and our eagerness to further develop the strong<br />
friendships that link us all together,” she said in her welcoming speech.<br />
“We, at KOC, are extremely proud of this magnificent interaction with you, a<br />
fact that originates from our consideration towards the outstanding role that<br />
you undertake, in order to foster and further enhance relations between your<br />
respective countries and ours, <strong>Kuwait</strong>. We share with you this eagerness<br />
and look forward to develop it by every possible means,” she added.<br />
While she expressed great pleasure over the presence of diplomats’<br />
families at the camp, Hashem underlined that KOC accords a great deal of<br />
importance to shouldering its responsibilities towards society and sharing<br />
different occasions and activities with citizens, making it part of its traditions<br />
since it was established.<br />
She also expressed KOC’s gratitude and appreciation towards the facilities<br />
that embassies accord to <strong>Company</strong> employees, especially those related to<br />
consular matters and the issuance of visas, a fact that allows employees to<br />
accomplish their missions in a more efficient way.<br />
The Away <strong>Day</strong> program was comprised of entertainment activities,<br />
competitions and prizes, honoring embassies and participants, a magic<br />
show and folkloric shows.<br />

KOC Wins Two Awards at MEALF<br />
Event hosted by Abu Dhabi<br />
KOC was awarded two prizes during the recognition ceremony<br />
held to conclude the 7th edition of The Middle East Artificial Lift<br />
Forum (MEALF) which was hosted by the United Arab Emirates<br />
last week.<br />
The 7th Edition of MEALF concluded with a special recognition<br />
ceremony during which two honorary awards were given out to the<br />
Best Speaker which went to KOC’s Nora Al-Maqseed, Petroleum<br />
Engineer I (WS), Artificial Lift Team, as well as the Best Exhibition<br />
Stand which went to KOC.<br />
MEALF and the accompanying exhibition was held at the Emirates<br />
Palace Hotel under the patronage of 1st VP of the Abu Dhabi<br />
Chamber of Commerce and Industry Khalfan Saeed Al-Kaabi,<br />
in the presence of a large number of officials, diplomats, and oil<br />
company representatives from all over the world.<br />
The Steering and Technical Committee of MEALF 2013 announced<br />
that the biennial energy forum was a vast regional success with<br />
over 518 speakers, delegates and exhibitors from major power<br />
companies from public and private sectors all over the world.<br />
It is worth mentioning that MEALF 2013 was sponsored by leading<br />
companies, including the platinum sponsor <strong>Kuwait</strong> <strong>Oil</strong> <strong>Company</strong>.<br />
Quality Assurance Team Holds Workshop for Internal Auditors<br />
Workshop is 10th of its kind since start of project<br />
The Quality Assurance Team, under TL Fahad Al-Sabah, recently held the<br />
ISO 9001 Internal Audit Workshop for Cycle IV. This is the tenth workshop<br />
of its kind to take place since the start of the project.<br />
The workshop provides trained internal auditors with a refresher on how to<br />
prepare and execute an audit, gives the experienced auditors an opportunity<br />
to share their experiences and creates an opportunity for efficiently assigning<br />
auditors to the upcoming audits.<br />
There were 35 participants from all directorates who took part. With 39<br />
internal audits scheduled between January 30th and February 20th, some<br />
volunteered to conduct two audits.<br />
TL (QA) Fahad Al-Sabah welcomed the auditors and upheld the importance<br />
of their role. Internal audits are a vital component of ISO 9001 and without<br />
them KOC would lose its certifications. GEC organized and ran the workshop<br />
with coordination from Quality Assurance.<br />
The Cycle V Internal Audit Training Course and Auditor Workshop is<br />
planned for October.<br />

EO & MO Groups Hold Waste Management Awareness Campaign<br />
The HSE (EO&MO) Team recently organized a waste management<br />
awareness campaign for the Export Operations Group and Marine<br />
Operations Group that addressed the various aspects of operational waste<br />
management at KOC. It also provided insights on the role of Tetra Tech as<br />
a service contractor, and the means for utilizing its services.<br />
Mohammed Al-Basry, Team Leader HSE (EO&MO) addressed the<br />
employees at Ameera Court, Ahmadi and Samirah Haider, Senior<br />
Environment Engineer, addressed the gathering at the Small Boat Harbor,<br />
Mina Al-Ahmadi.<br />
The campaign focused on topics relevant to waste management, such as<br />
waste classification (hazardous/non-hazardous), segregation of waste,<br />
appropriate waste-bin use, waste removal request email, waste manifest/<br />
loading note, waste separation, waste recycle through K-EPA approved<br />
Recycler, waste treatment, and final disposal outside KOC to K-EPA<br />
approved facilities/locations. This KOC waste management service is being<br />
utilized for handling of routine and non-routine operational waste.<br />
Waste management posters and fliers were distributed to employees to<br />
display at their respective assets in order to increase the awareness among<br />
the KOC and Contractor employees. All queries raised by attendees were<br />
addressed during this campaign.<br />
KOC Offers Life-Saving Training to Al-Nuzha Teachers<br />
Sponsored by Planning Team (WK)<br />
The West <strong>Kuwait</strong> Directorate, represented by the Planning Team, recently<br />
sponsored a specialized course for Al-Nuzha Kindergarten teachers within<br />
the framework of The National Project for Life-Saving Training, organized in<br />
cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the American Heart Association.<br />
The event took place on February 10-11, 2013.<br />
The initiative falls within the KOC commitment to shoulder its social<br />
responsibilities and consolidate its goals. The <strong>Company</strong> was represented<br />
by Senior Planner Asmaa Al-Sabbri and Planning Engineer Husain Atash.<br />
Both conducted presentations about the role of KOC towards the society<br />
and honored those who took part in the course.<br />
Al-Nuzha Kindergarten Directress, Nadia Al-Muzn, thanked KOC for<br />
sponsoring the course and underscored the role that the <strong>Company</strong> plays in<br />
serving the society’s causes and aspirations.<br />

SS Team Organizes Omra Trips for KOC Employees<br />

The Society Services Team (Corporate Operations Group) has recently<br />
announced that it will organize an Omra trip for KOC employees and their<br />
families from 11-16 March, 2013.<br />
The trip is comprised of an itinerary that includes two nights in Mecca and<br />
