Choir Rehearsal
Yesterday, Mrs Bolger, Mrs Weiss and the school choir travelled to Sydney to
rehearse for a performance at the Primary Choral Festival. The Primary Choral
Festival will take place on Tuesday 16 October. The students were very patient
and well-behaved throughout the day. Thank you to the many parents who
helped transport children to and from Hornsby train station. Without your
assistance, participation in these events would be limited. Also, thank you to Mrs Bolger and Mrs
Weiss for an excellent job in preparing the choir for the rehearsal.
School Uniform
Galston Public School enjoys a great reputation in the local community, which is a credit to the staff,
students and parents of the school. The wearing of full school uniform by all students contributes
significantly to maintaining this reputation. For the remainder of term 3, students may wear summer
or winter uniform. All students must wear full school summer uniform, including a school hat, from
Monday 8 October.
Mudung Veggie Patch
The veggie patch is missing a veggie stall. If any parent would like to help with the construction of a
veggie stall, please see Miss Clements or contact the school office.
Indigenous Book Swap
On September 5 we celebrated Indigenous Literacy Day. Our school took part in a book swap to
raise funds for remote kids in Australia. It was amazing to see so many children excited about
exchanging books that they have read and loved. Not only does it encourage reading but it raises
funds for children in communities who don’t have access to books. Everyone wins. Thanks to all the
students who participated as we raised $365. A special thanks to Lauren Buckle and Abbey Yeung
who had a cake stall on the side of the road and donated their money to the charity.
The Indigenous performance day has been rescheduled for October 9.
Crusaders Summit Educational Camp
As our Crusaders Camp is quickly approaching all final amounts of $85.00 are due by the end of this
week, Friday 14 September 2012. All students who are attending the two day (one night) camp on
Thursday 11 October and Friday 12 October, the first week of Term 4, will be taking home a letter
next week containing final details regarding travel arrangements, what to bring and medication. If
you have any questions regarding the camp, please contact Mrs Weiss.
Next P & C Meeting – Tuesday 9 October at 7.30pm in library

Area Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to Nicholas Thomson and Zac Jamieson who
represented Galston Public School and the Beecroft Zone at the
Sydney North Athletics Carnival. Zac finished 7 th in the shot put and
7 th in the discus. Nicholas finished 8 th in shot put, 10 th in long jump
and 4 th in discus, narrowly missing qualification for the state carnival.
Well done to both students who participated enthusiastically at the
carnival.
Parent Helpers
Parent helper sign-on books have now been placed in all classrooms, the library and canteen, as well
as the office. Please remember, prior to assisting with a school activity, all parent helpers need to
record their details in a sign-on book. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Junior Choir
The School Junior Choir performed at KU Galston Preschool Birthday Celebration on Saturday. This
group of Years 1 and 2 students has been practising diligently since Term 2. They sang two songs and
were spectacular in their first public performance. What outstanding ambassadors these students were
for our school. Well done Junior Choir!
SRC
As part of our fundraising commitments, the SRC is supporting the Jeans for Genes Foundation. On
Friday 21 September (last day of term) the students will be able to wear jeans and a football shirt
(any code). The students have been asked to contribute a gold coin donation. Thank you in
anticipation of your support.
4P News
This term, 4P has been studying Space and the Solar System. We have been researching and finding
out lots of interesting facts about the planets. We have been using Microsoft Publisher to present our
information as an A4 poster. Using this program has allowed us to present our information reports in
a colourful and organised format.
As part of our science unit we have also been tracking the phases of the moon. Students have been
keeping a daily journal of what the moon looks like each night or morning. We have learnt that we
don’t just look for the moon at night, as it can be seen during the day as well!
As a weekly routine, we practise our weekly spelling words during spelling activities. During this time
students can be found beading, writing in coloured sand, writing with water, racing the clock, writing
with wax candles or writing in the air. This is a great way to practise our spelling in a fun way.
For maths, competition is the word. To discuss and learn about chance we had our own ‘Minute to
Win It’ competition. Students had to complete a number of challenges in a minute. Results were
recorded and we produced graphs to compare our results. It wasn’t just the students who were
involved, as Mr Montgomery also took on the challenges.
As a class, we have been trialling the use of Edmodo. Edmodo is an online secure discussion board
that allows students to post questions and comments about what we have been talking about in the
classroom. Students are able to use Edmodo to transfer files between school and home. This has
enabled students to start their information reports at school and then finish them at home. Each
student turned their information reports in through Edmodo. While there were some problems with
loading files initially, we are all becoming very proficient in using Edmodo. What a great trial class!!
Bendigo Bank 10th Birthday Celebration
On Sunday 7 October Bendigo Bank will be hosting a 10 th birthday celebration at Galston High
School. Part of the celebration will be a Children of Galston District display. Bendigo Bank has
invited all Year 3 to Year 6 children to complete a project on the theme: ‘Why Bendigo Bank is
important to the Galston & District Community’. Galston Public School will be holding a Showbag
Stall on the day. If you are able to help out on this stall, please contact Michelle Vumbaca on 0409
686 611.
A note was sent home earlier this term containing the instructions to complete the project. All
completed projects need to be returned to your child’s teacher by Monday 17 September 2012.
Please ensure that you support this event, as Bendigo Bank regularly donates money to the Galston
Community, especially Galston Public School. These funds ensure that students are provided with the
many additional facilities and equipment that are necessary in modern education.
School Accounts
Term 3 school accounts are now due and we thank the many families who have already paid. As
this is the last account for this year, it would be appreciated if all outstanding invoices could be paid
as soon as possible. It is important to note that these levies are not designed to make money for the
school but to cover costs for materials used in class and to help with the purchase of valuable
classroom resources and equipment.
Cybersmart Workshops
All permission notes to participate in the Cybersmart workshops were to be returned on Monday 3
September. Unfortunately, any child in Years 3-6 who has not returned his/her permission note, will
not be able to attend the workshops. The parent information sessions will be held in the school
library on Thursday 13 September, commencing at 6.00pm.
Next P & C Meeting – Tuesday 9 October at 7.30pm in library

Year 6 Mini Fete - Show Bags
This year’s Mini Fete show bags are Super Magic bag, Stinky and Gross bag, Wise Guy bag, Princess
Rock bag and Miss Behaving bag. Each bag costs $6.50. Money for show bags can be brought to
Number 1 Number 2 Number 3 Number 4 Number 5
Year 6 Mini Fete Jumping Castle
In order for the Jumping Castle to go ahead we must have signed permission slips for all children.
This is for insurance purposes for the Jumping Castle providers. If we do not have a signed
permission slip for your child they will not be able to go on the castle. The jumping castle will be
fully supervised by the provider of the castle. Please send in all forms by Wednesday 12th September.
Holiday Activities
Stuck for school holiday ideas The ‘Go Play’ website lists hundreds of activities throughout NSW.
Explore museums, observe space, discover castles and convicts, or give your child the opportunity to
develop a new skill. There is a range of options on offer – from photography to skating. Go to:
http://goplay.nsw.gov.au/startdate=2012-09-28 for more information.
Kindergarten 2013
If you have a child who will be enrolling in Kindergarten for 2013, please assist us by completing an
enrolment form and returning it to school promptly. Forms are available from the office. Please bring
your child’s birth certificate/passport and immunisation documents with you. For us to accommodate
all students and ensure the smooth transition into ‘big school’, we require enrolment forms to be
returned as soon as possible. If you are aware of a family in the area who has a child who will be
enrolling in Kindergarten for 2013, please ask them to contact the school office.
fun social activities. If you have suggestions for the canteen, social events or fundraising, please
contact the appropriate committee member. We always need more helpers, especially for special
events like athletics carnivals, etc.
A big thank you again to Michelle Vumbaca, Debbie Webb, Tracy Lewer, Justine Smillie, Donna Gee
