and up and regularly attracts racers from
as far north as Oklahoma and as far south
as the city of Temple, he added.
The track averages about 50 racers per
event. It also features a full-service shop
on site for both asphalt racing go-cart
parts and dirt racing go-cart parts and
service.
Ironically, Engstrom opened the service
shop in 1996, eight years before he
opened the racetrack.
“We did not intend to open a racetrack
there when we first purchased the property.
As it turns out, there was a demand
and we had enough property to make it
happen. It wasn’t planned – it just evolved
that way,” he added.
The service shop is open during the week
from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., although Engstrom
asks customers to call first on Saturdays.

EAGLES CANYON RACEWAY
The Eagles Canyon Raceway, located at
629 North FM-51 in Decatur, features a
wo and a half mile road course that isn’t
val, but still has 11 turns.
The raceway opened in November of
007 and is a track for both fast cars and
otorcycles.
“Two weekends a month we have private

lmost like a country club — you can use

ne else is here,” said owner Linda Cook.
She calls the raceway a “controlled envionment.”
“You can put the pedal to the medal, but
ne of us will get in a car with you and
f we don’t think you know what you are
oing then we won’t let you go solo. We’ll
ive you instruction. We need to have that
arm fuzzy feeling that you understand
our vehicle,” Cook said.
There are benefits to using the track beause
it’s a great place to learn defensive
riving skills, she added.

BOYD RACEWAY
The Boyd Raceway, located at 376 Raceway
Lane in Boyd, hosts races every Friday
night. The gates open at 6 p.m. and racing
starts at 8 p.m. Grandstand tickets are
$10 for adults, $5 for children between the
ages of 6 and 11 and children under 5 are
free. Pit tickets are $25. The track hosts
races with stock cars, modified cars, sport
modified cars, hobby stock cars and mini
stock cars.

RIVER VALLEY MOTOCROSS
River Valley Motocross, located on
County Road 4757 in Boyd, is a large
dirt racetrack, equipped for all different
sized dirt bike at ATVs. Practice times are
available at the track from 2 to 8 p.m. on
Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on

Saturdays and Sundays. Fees are $20 per
practice session, which includes Thursday,
Saturday and Sunday. Riders can also
purchase a practice pass for $30 on any
Saturday and Sunday the track is open for
practice. There is also a kids track, and
practice fees are $15 per rider.

OAK HILL RACEWAY
Oak Hill Raceway, located at 1636 County
Road 1270 in Alvord, has been a Texas
tradition since 1975. The track is equipped
for dirt bike and other ATV vehicles. The
raceway has RV sites and open parking RV
sites that are $25 a day on a first-comefirst-serve
basis. Yearly feed are $750 for
a fence-lined site and $500 for all others.
The track will host the Best of Texas Spring
Series during the final weekend in June
and the Big Texas Summer Nights Series
on July 11.
