Decatur Main Street hosts Decatur Movie
Nights in the downtown square during the
summer. Enjoy the stars in the sky and the
stars on the screen while surrounded by the
historic downtown surroundings.
Live entertainment begins at 7:30 p.m.
and the movies begin at dark or 9 p.m.,
whichever comes fi rst.
Those attending are encouraged to bring
their lawn chairs and other comfort items.
Popcorn, drinks, hot-dogs and snowcones
are available for purchase.
Movie dates are scheduled for Thursdays
through the summer.

The opening of the Decatur Visitors
Center in the city’s historic post office
building marks another completed
project under the Decatur Main Street
Program, which aims to help revitalize
downtown.
The building houses the Decatur
Main Street offices as well as a visitors
reception area and a museum display.
“I never saw it being a place that
would just highlight Decatur,” said
Frieda Hanley, Main Street manager.
“There are so many things in the
county to point visitors to.”
From Lake Bridgeport and Eagles
Canyon Raceway in Slidell to the LBJ
Grasslands and the International
Exotic Animal Sanctuary in Boyd, the
visitors center provides a long list of
things to see and do in Decatur and
Wise County.
The Decatur Visitors Center is at 106
S. Trinity.
Decatur Main Street organizes
various events throughout the year.

• July 5 — Summer Dayze motorcycle
show in downtown Decatur
• Aug. 1 — Cruise Nights on the
Courthouse Square antique auto
show, 4 to 8 p.m.
• Aug. 6 — Thursday Night Flick:
entertainment begins at 7:30 p.m. and
the movie starts at about 9 p.m. Popcorn,
drinks and hotdogs are served
at the event and those attending are
welcome to bring lawn chairs and
blankets.
• Sept. 5 — Cruise Nights on the
Courthouse Square antique auto
show, 4 to 8 p.m.
• Sept. 19 — Citywide garage sale
• Oct. 3 — Cruise Nights on the
Courthouse Square antique auto
show, 4 to 8 p.m.
• Oct. 23 — Paint Downtown Pink
• Nov. 11 — Veterans Day
• Nov. 27 — Lucky 7 2009: shops
open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Dec. 5 — Moonlight Madness
parade at 6 p.m.
• Dec. 12 and 19 — Christmas on
the Square: stores open from 6 to 8
p.m., carriage rides through downtown
and carolers
