Kit Review
Dragon Models Modern Soviet Aircraft Weapons Set 2: Air-to-Surface Missiles,
1/72 scale, kit no. 2505
by Al Magnus
Inside the box there are 2 sprues of hard light grey injected plastic, each with 38 pieces.
Five different missiles are available. They are:
Missile No. of No. of parts per Kit Part No.s
Copies missile
Kh-23 (AS-7 Kerry) 2 5 14, 15, 26(x2), 27
Kh-25 (AS-10 Kerry) 2 3 18, 19, 29
Kh-25 (AS-12 Kegler) 2 3 22, 23, 28
Kh-29 (AS-14 Kedge) 2 2 16, 17
Kh-58 (AS-11 Kilter) 2 3 2, 6, 7
There are parts for the wing mounts for each missile. The mounts fit into slots in the missile body.
Along with the missiles are parts to make KMG-U Dispenser, 300mm rocket, SPPU-22 Gun Pod
and UPK-23 Gun Pod.
The molding of the parts was slightly off resulting in noticeable seams along the missile bodies.
Removing them tended to flatten out the bodies and gave them more of an oval cross section than
round.
In my box there was just one decal sheet, though I suspect there should have been two because
there are not enough images on one sheet to mark two missiles if the instructions are followed.
All the markings on the sheet are black. The decal film is a thick but does respond to Microsol
very well. The images are opaque but the images are a bit fuzzy looking and not very crisp and
clear.
The instruction sheet contains colouring and marking info. Paint numbers are for Italeri, Gunze
Sangyo Aqueous and Gunze Sangyo Mr. Color paints. US FS numbers are included where
applicable.
This set’s mouldings are now around 15 years old, and the accuracy of the missiles remains
reasonably good. But the poorly aligned moldings and the generally poor decal sheet make this
kit a bit of a disappointment.
