NC Turfgrass
Foundation
In the mid-1990s, TCNC created the
N.C. Turfgrass Foundation (NCTF).
Consisting of several different line
accounts housed within the NC Agricultural
Foundation, NCTF provides
funding for turfgrass research, scholarship
and professional development.
Research
Every fall, a TCNC committee
reviews a list of research projects
to determine funding levels for the
projects the industry needs most.
Funding is based on the donations
received that year, plus roughly half
the interest income generated from
the Foundation, which is endowed
at $500,000.
Over the past 10 years, NCTF
has funded more than $1.2 million
dollars in research at NC State
University.
Graduate
Scholarships
The NC Agricultural Foundation also
houses the Eagle Scholarship Award.
An endowed fund of $50,000, the
Eagle Scholarship Award provides
$2,000 to a graduate student at NC
State, based on the recommendations
of an NC State Committee.
Funding for the award is generated
through the Eagle Mentor Award
and Scholarship Program. From time
to time, various other scholarship
award accounts have been created
to support specific turfgrass scholarships
through NCTF.
Undergraduate
Scholarships
In addition to the two-year, four-year
and graduate programs at NC State,
North Carolina boasts a number of
community colleges that provide
associate degrees to turfgrass students.
On average, TCNC provides $2,500 in
undergraduate scholarships each year.
