Second, I decided that navigation would be important so students would<br />
not get lost in this three-dimensional environment. Navigation bars with<br />
multiple trees and layers were a necessity. At first, my navigation bar only<br />
extended one level; my students requested that the navigation branch out<br />
as far as possible. Because students can digest so many levels at once, these<br />
branches make it easy for them to telescope within the electronic book without<br />
getting lost. So, I added three methods <strong>of</strong> navigation—a top bar with branches<br />
for the whole site, a more detailed side bar for each room, and a site map to
