Project Updates: 36 Acre Tank Farm Seaport Canaveral, Florida USA This project represents the single largest investment in Port Canaveral history: 24 storage tanks for a new fuel terminal. CB&I was chosen by Seaport Canaveral LLC to engineer, fabricate and construct this 36-acre tank farm, which will hold 2.8 million barrels of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel (see chart below). Central Florida’s population has been growing at rates between 2 and 5%, which has increased the need for transportation fuels for tourism and coastal watercraft activities. The threat of hurricanes has also increased the need for fuel storage in this area to provide a backup supply of fuel to minimize the impact of natural disasters. The tank farm is conveniently located in the northern part of Port Canaveral, at the intersection of major transportation arteries to reduce transport-toend-market costs. Tank construction was completed in August 2009, five months ahead of schedule, despite two hurricanes that disrupted field operations during initial construction. Project Updates: HDS Plant Desulfurization Unit Up and Running Gdansk, Poland Chevron Lummus Global (CLG) is the technology licensor for this diesel Gas Oil Desulfurization Unit, owned by Grupa LOTOS S.A. This unit has a 2.3 million metric tons per annum capacity and produces desulfurized diesel with less than 10 parts per million of sulfur, while also providing a cloud point improvement of 12 degrees Celsius. The unit has exhibited stable operation, producing ultra-low sulfur diesel. Upon CLG completing the basic engineering design of the unit, the detailed engineering, procurement and construction contract was awarded in October of 2006 and the plant was ready for start-up in May 2009. There were zero lost-time incidents on this project with more than one million hours worked. Chevron Lummus Global (CLG) is a 50/50 joint venture between Chevron and Lummus Technology. CLG provides licensed technology and catalysts for hydrocracking, residuum upgrading, lube hydrofinishing/dewaxing, distillate hydrotreating, and gas oil hydrotreating. Some of the technologies they offer include: • ISOCRACKING • RDS/VRDS • OCR • ISODEWAXING • ISOFINISHING • LC-FINING The plant was built on a very tight plot, which made erecting some of the equipment challenging, especially this 700-ton reactor. 15
