Chain of Custody
Chain of Custody (CoC) is the path taken by
the raw materials harvested from a certified
forest all the way through processing,
production, distribution and printing until
it is a final product to be sold to an end
customer. We are proud to have earned
CoC certification from the following
organizations:
Forest Stewardship Council
(FSC).
The Sustainable Forestry
Initiative (SFI)..
Programme for the Endorsement
of Forest Certification (PEFC).
The PEFC Council (Programme for the
Endorsement of Forest Certification) is an
independent, non-profit, nongovernmental
organization, founded in 1999, which
promotes sustainably managed forests
through independent third party
certification. PEFC provides an assurance
mechanism to purchasers of wood and
paper products that they are promoting the
sustainable management of forests. PEFC is
similar to FSC in relation to the end product
certification, and is growing in popularity
across some regions of Western Europe. PEFC
offers customers a badge of sustainability
as requested by many end users, as proof of
corporately responsible purchasing.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is
an international network, which promotes
responsible management of the world’s
forests. It accredits independent third party
organizations to FSC standards to ensure
well managed forestry. Its trademark
provides international recognition to
organizations that support the growth of
responsible forest management. Over the
past 12 years, over 84 million hectares in
more than 82 countries have been certified
according to FSC standards (covering around
2% of world forests) while several thousands
of products are produced using FSC certified
wood and carrying the FSC trademark. FSC
operates through its network of National
Initiatives in 40 countries and is becoming
increasingly demanded by customers looking
for a sustainable branded paper. The FSC
trademark can be displayed on products
containing a mix of FSC certified, recycled
and controlled fiber. The FSC logo identifies
products from well managed forests. It is
the global benchmark for responsible forest
management.
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI)
program is based on the premise that
responsible environmental behavior and
sound business decisions can co-exist. SFI
program participants practice sustainable
forestry on all the lands they manage
and they influence millions of additional
acres through the training of loggers and
foresters in best management practices
and landowner outreach programs. This
unique commitment to sustainable forestry
recognizes that all forest landowners, not
just SFI program participants, play a critical
role in ensuring the long-term health and
sustainability of our forests. The SFI program
is overseen by a multistakeholder Board of
Directors which is the sole governing body
over the SFI Standard and all aspects of
the program. including chain of custody
certification and labeling, marketing and
promotion.
