Mean shell sizes for Georissa laevigata occurring at Hagoi, Mt. Lasu, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Mahalang are<br />

presented in Figures 13, 14, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> 15, respectively. Mean shell sizes for Paropeas achatinaceum<br />

at <strong>the</strong> Mahalang study site are provided in Figure 16.<br />

Aguiguan<br />

No living Partula gibba or Partula langfordi were observed at any <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> seven sampling<br />

stati<strong>on</strong>s or any <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> forested areas investigated in Aguiguan during this survey. Sun-bleached<br />

shells <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Partula gibba were at <strong>the</strong> surface or in leaf litter at five <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> seven sites sampled,<br />

including those previously studied by Craig <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ch<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>ran (1992) <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Smith (1995). Dead shells<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Partula langfordi were found at <strong>on</strong>ly two <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> seven sites. Shells <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> both species lacked <strong>the</strong><br />

color <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> luster <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> shells <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> live <str<strong>on</strong>g>snails</str<strong>on</strong>g> or recent mortalities, leading to a c<strong>on</strong>clusi<strong>on</strong> that <strong>the</strong><br />

observed shells are very old. A summary <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> species <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> dead ground shells observed during this<br />

survey is given in Table 4.<br />

Only four species in two families <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> ground-dwelling <str<strong>on</strong>g>snails</str<strong>on</strong>g> were found living in 8<br />

m 2 <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> forest floor sampled in Aguiguan. Three <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong>se species dominated at Site 5, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> two<br />

species at Site 6 (Table 5). Palaina taeniolata reached <strong>the</strong> highest mean density at 80.9<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>snails</str<strong>on</strong>g>/m 2 at Stati<strong>on</strong> 5, while Georissa laevigata was more evenly distributed between <strong>the</strong> two<br />

sites. Palaina hyalina reached moderate densities at Site 5, but <strong>on</strong>ly a single individual was<br />

found at Site 6. A total <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong>ly two Georissa biangulata were encountered, both at Stati<strong>on</strong> 6.<br />
