4 WAGNER ROLES: A Bayreuth Ortlinde and Eva Soprano Amanda Mace sang in the 2 nd (May 2001) Concert. She will make her Bayreuth debut in 2006 as Ortlinde in the new Ring production to be conducted by Christian Thielemann. She is also engaged at Bayreuth to sing Eva in Die Meistersinger in 2007. In November 2004, she will sing Leonore at the Chiemgau MusikFest in Gut Immling. In 2004 she appeared in Britten’s War Requiem with the Bach Orchestra in Hannover and Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 at the Gran Canaria Festival in Las Palmas. In 2003 she sang Gerhilde with the Bamberg Sinfoniker and Ah! Perfido with the Rotterdam Philharmonic under Edo de Waart. Her 2002 engagements included performances of Elijah with the Minnesota Orchestra conducted by Helmut Rilling. vatosca@yahoo.com WAGNER ROLES: Steuermann andTristan Tenor Paul Mow sang in the 2 nd (May 2001) Concert and 4 th Annual Wagner Society of Washington, DC banquet in June (2002). He sang Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Catholic University Summer Opera Theatre in 2003. He adds two Wagner roles to his rapidly expanding repertoire in early 2005. He sings the Steuermann in Der fliegende Holländer with the Anchorage Opera in January, followed by Tristan in February, in the Rostock OperTheater’s concert version of Act I of Tristan und Isolde. He returns to New York for performances of the Beethoven 9th, then goes on the perform Lennie in the Toledo Opera’s Of Mice and Men, which he also performed with New York City Opera. He appeared in NYCO production of Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria and Sousa’s The Glass Blowers, which he originated with the Glimmerglass Opera. Pmtenor@aol.com WAGNER ROLES: Ortrud, Erda and Waltraute Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Roderer sang in the 6 th (May 2003) and 8 th (May 2004) Concerts. Her versatile repertory extends from works written by Baroque-era composers to 21 st century fare. After her 1999 debut at New York City Opera as Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, she has appeared with the company as Giovanna in Rigoletto, Jade Boucher in Dead Man Walking, and Junon in Rameau’s Platèe. She has sung in the Ring at the Seattle Opera and in the Lyric Opera of Chicago production of Die Walküre. She made her European debut at Open Air Gars as Amneris in Aida and appeared in Les Noces with the Los Angeles Master Chorale. In February 2005 she sings Santuzza for the Sarasota Opera. Jenrozzy1@aol.com WAGNER ROLES: Fricka Mezzo soprano Roxanne Rowedder sang in 6 th (May 16, 2003) and 9 th (October 8, 2004) Concerts. She is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. She has performed the role of Dryad in Ariadne auf Naxos with Sarasota Opera, Emilia in Otello with Opera Delaware and the role of Ulrica in Un ballo in Maschera with Brevard Music Festival. She has also performed the role of Mamma Lucia in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana with New Jersey Opera. Ms. Rowedder has received from the George London Foundation the George London/Kirsten Flagstad Award. She has received a study grant from The Wagner Society of New York, Sarasota Opera’s Kern Grant, and the Fritz and Lavinia Jensen Foundation Encouragement Award. Roxanne_Row@msn.com
WAGNER ROLES: Siegmund and Tannhäuser Tenor David Smith sang in the 9 th (October 2004) Concert. He has performed with the Kentucky Opera, Louisville Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Opera, Indiana Opera Theater, Opera Theater Saint Louis, and the Des Moines Metro Opera. Internationally he has performed with the Israeli Vocal Arts Institute and Opera Aegea, and the Slaskie Philharmonic in Katowice, Poland. He has performed principal roles in I Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Faust, La Forza del Destino, Wozzeck, and other operas. He is also in demand as an oratorio performer. He has performed the tenor solos in the Mozart Requiem, the Beethoven Missa Solemnis, the Verdi Requiem, the Beethoven 9 th Symphony and Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass. He performed Schubert’s Mass in G and Beethoven’s Mass in C at Carnegie Hall. Mr. Smith was the featured tenor soloist with the Concert Artists of Baltimore with whom he completed numerous performances in 2002 and 2003. He recently made his Heldentenor debut at Austria’s Tiroler Festspiele after an already successful career as a bass-baritone. Aside from several Wagner roles in the heldentenor repertoire, he has performed Florestan in Fidelio, Don Josè in Carmen, Canio in I Pagliacci, Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, and others. Baritone career highlights include a role in Prokofiev’s War and Peace at the Metropolitan Opera, and engagements at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris and at Barcelona’s Gran Theatre del Liceu. RoyStevens96@cs.com WAGNER ROLES: Senta, Brünnhilde and Kundry Soprano Gail Sullivan sang in the 4 th (May 2002) and 6 th May 2003) Concerts. Her Wagner roles include Senta, Brünnhilde and Kundry, which she has performed both in the U.S. and Germany. She is currently engaged on contract at Theater Regensburg. Ms. Sullivan sang in Don Carlos in Regensburg in 2004. In the autumn 2004 she will perform the First Lady in Die Zauberflöte. She will perform Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana and the Mahler 8 th Symphony. gaildiva1@aol.com WAGNER ROLES: Wotan Baritone Jason Switzer sang in the 9 th (October 2004) Concert. He graduated from the University of Southern California at Long Beach. He is presently studying at the Philadelphia Academy of Music. He performed the three Villains in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann at Central City, Colorado in 2004. He has also performed the role of Orest in Strauss’s Elektra, the Count in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Dulcamara in L’Elisir d’Amore of Donizetti. He was a Metropolitan Opera semi-finalist in 2004. He has performed with Opera North and at the Tanglewood Festival. bariclaw@hotmail.com WAGNER ROLES: Siegmund, Tristan, Erik, Lohengrin and Parsifal Heldentenor Thomas Rolf Truhitte sang in the 3 rd (October 2001) and 4 th (May 2002) Concerts. He is a favorite of audiences in the Washington, DC area from his appearances with the Virginia Opera as Siegmund in Die Walküre and Florestan in Fidelio in 2003 and 2004. He returns to the Virginia Opera in February 2005 for his Tristan. His appearances have garnered accolades from Seattle to Spoleto. His repertory also includes Don Jose (Seattle Opera, Opera San Jose, Sacramento Opera), Parsifal (Genoa Opera, conducted by Lorin Maazel), Bacchus (Opera Monte-Carlo), Max (Metz Opera), and Lohengrin (Spoleto Festival).
