7.1.1.4.4 Pharmaco- vigilance<br />

<strong>NVBDCP</strong> will undertake this activity alongwith therapeutic efficacy. This<br />

activity shall be outsourced to agency like NIMR and RMRI who will have an<br />

advisory group supported by full time Consultant (Pharmacologist). At the<br />

operational level, this activity shall be linked with the sentinel surveillance<br />

and facilities that treat severe and complicated malaria or patients with<br />

Kala-azar admitted to referral hospitals. This activity is proposed to be<br />

started early in the project phase by September 2008. NIMR and RMRI will<br />

develop detailed protocols including reporting formats for undertaking<br />

pharmaco-vigilance with the help of experts.<br />

7.2 Sub-Component 3.b: Program Management and Capacity<br />

Building<br />

This sub-component would include additional human resources, activities for<br />

capacity building and management strengthening for effective malaria<br />

control and kala-azar elimination. For programme management functions,<br />

the staff in position and additional staff hired will be expected to provide<br />

managerial and operational support to malaria control and Kala-azar<br />

elimination. They will also contribute to the control of other vector borne<br />

diseases where appropriate. Capacity building is needed at the central<br />

regional, state, zonal, district and sub-district levels. Training includes staff<br />

dedicated fully to the control of malaria and elimination of Kala-azar as well<br />
