The procurement of DDT & spray worker’s wages shall be met from<br />
domestic budget centrally.<br />
6.2 Others issues – Kala-azar<br />
The priority would be on effectively and ensuring complete treatment of the<br />
cases reported at health facilities. This will require directly observed<br />
treatment and follow-up of cases with treatment cards for each patient and<br />
maintaining individual treatment boxes. Weekly analysis of the reported<br />
cases will identify the disease “hot spots” in each district where active cases<br />
search will be undertaken by the kala-azar technical supervisors who<br />
working in tandem with the ASHA community volunteers will undertake<br />
community mobilization activities to identify new cases as well as help in<br />
eliminating the breeding places for sand fly and improve community<br />
compliance for indoor residual spray operations and ensure quality of the<br />
spray operations. This will be done under the guidance and supervision of<br />
the district Kala-azar co-ordinator.<br />
Catholic Relief Agency is working in few districts in Jharkhand for effective<br />
kala-azar case management. This was through state health Society under<br />
NRHM. <strong>NVBDCP</strong> will utilize the services of Catholic Agency during the<br />
project period on single source basis to improve kala-azar case<br />
management services covering 3-4 districts in the state of Jharkhand. This<br />
contract will be awarded by the <strong>NVBDCP</strong>. However, the release of funds will<br />
be based on the performance reports from the state. The detailed<br />
modalities will be finalized with the state and the Catholic agency.<br />
Rajendra Memorial Research Institute (RMRI), Patna will complete two days<br />
standardized competency based training for the lab technicians in the 16<br />
districts selected for the first year of the project by July 31, 2008 and the<br />
<strong>NVBDCP</strong> will ensure availability of treatment cards and laboratory register.<br />
The <strong>NVBDCP</strong> will identify 4 sentinel sites in the state of Bihar covering all<br />
endemic regions of the state in consultation with RMRI which will position a<br />
Research Officer in each of these locations to monitor the severe cases,<br />
case fatality rates and undertake pharmaco-vigilance. The operations<br />
