• Remember all your food waste can be placed into the brown bin, please use the liners supplied by the Council or wrap food in single sheet of newspaper or you can place food waste loose into the brown bin. Please remove all packaging. http://www.castlereagh.gov.uk/FWaste.asp. • Any unwanted Household batteries can be recycled through your kerbie box collections and also at the Council’s Household Recycling Centres. • You could organise a present swap for any unwanted presents or donate any unwanted gifts to your local charity shops. • Remember to recycle all your Christmas cards via your blue bin or kerbie boxes.

Cutting down on Contamination Sometimes items are placed into the recycling bins that the Council cannot accept. Collection crews will check all bins and if items that cannot be accepted have been placed into recycling bins or boxes an ‘Oops’ card will be left highlighting what items cannot be recycled. It is your responsibility to remove these items from the bin. Please see http://www.castlereagh.gov.uk/Contamination.asp for further information on contamination. • Christmas wrapping paper cannot be recycled, as it is often made of poor quality paper and can be layered with foil and plastic or covered in sticky tape and ribbons, all of which make it unsuitable for recycling. Therefore please put all wrapping paper into your grey waste bin. • Only plastic bottles are accepted in the recycling bins and boxes. NO other type of plastic is accepted this includes any type of plastic packaging, butter tubs, yoghurt pots, plastic toys, plastic inserts etc are not accepted. Please place any plastic packaging from toys or food into your grey waste bin. • Please remove all packaging before placing food waste into the brown bin. Only use liners provided by the Council. You can purchase additional liners from the Council Offices, Bradford Court, Belfast BT6 8RB for £1 (approx 30 liners). Alternatively you can wrap any food waste in a single sheet of newspaper or simply put food waste loose into your brown bin.
