Jingle all the way to the recycling bin this Christmas… The count down to Christmas has started and Castlereagh Borough Council is encouraging all householders to continue to reduce, reuse and recycle over the festive period. Please make full use of the Council’s recycling collection services, Household Recycling Centres and Community Bring sites! In the UK approximately: • 250 tonnes of Christmas trees are simply thrown out after Christmas! • 4,500 tonnes of tin foil is disposed of at Christmas! • 500 tonnes of Christmas tree lights are thrown into the landfill bin! • 13,350 tonnes of glass, from champagne and sherry bottles to mincemeat and cranberry sauce jars are placed into the grey bin! How to reduce, reuse and recycle this Christmas! • Please make full use of the Councils Real Christmas Tree recycling where real Christmas trees can be collected for composting from 3rd-20th January 2012 at: - • Hillmount Nursery, Upper Braniel Road, Gilnahirk, Belfast, BT5 7TX • Woodlawn Garden Centre, Ballynahinch Road, Carryduff, BT8 8DJ • Council’s Household Recycling Centres

• You can now dispose of tin foil through your blue bin and kerbie boxes and don’t forget the Council’s Household Recycling Centres! See the Council’s website for more information. • You can recycle all your glass at the Council’s Community bring sites. Please remember that glass banks cannot accept Pyrex or crockery! Only clear, brown, green and blue glass bottles & jarsthese can be mixed in the banks and no longer need to be separated! • If you have space, keep your recycling bin next to your main bin, not only during the festive season but all year round, so you can take out the rubbish and recycle at the same time. • When you go to do your Christmas shop, take any recycling which you can’t recycle to your local Community Bring site, including glass and textiles- see locations at : http://www.castlereagh.gov.ukRecyclePoints.asp. • Don’t bin your waste electricals bring them to your local Household Recycling Centre for recycling, large white goods can now be taken for reuse see www.brysonelectricalrecycling.co.uk/ for more information. • If you are having visitors this Christmas, let them know where your recycling bins are and what goes in them!
