and relaxed.”
Everything about this hotel seems double-sized. It’s got 500 rooms
to start with, shared between the eight-storey main building and
two-storey annexe.
Then there are the two pools. The first is a gigantic expanse
and the second, a kidney bean-shaped number. And they’re
both set into huge, palm-decked terraces laden with sunloungers
and parasols. More than that, there’s a children’s splash pool and a
cube-shaped swim-up bar in the main pool.
It’s a similar story inside. While the exterior is all coral pink, the
lobby-lounge takes its cue from the hip boutique look.
Picture chunky armchairs, square pillars and suede banquettes
set against a monochrome backdrop. As to the rooms, think
toned-down versions of the lobby. Pale green and creams takes
over, with light wood furniture, hooped lampshades and bold
eco-inspired artworks.
The food scene revolves around choice. The All Inclusive buffets
come courtesy of the main restaurant, where you’ll find a big
selection of international dishes, complete with a carvery. Or reserve
a table at the Yasumi, which serves up Asian cuisine in another cool
minimalist space.
Lastly, the Riu’s in a great spot. Sitting back from a cliff edge it’s got
a sandy cove just below, accessed by nearby steps. A 15-minute
walk also brings you to Praia da Falesia - a sliver of golden sands
that’s the Algarve all over.
