‘Paradise’ is the word you keep hearing from new arrivals to
the Maldives. And as your speedboat pulls up at the jetty and you
clap eyes on this hotel you’ll understand why. Set in a shallow
turquoise lagoon, and fringed with powder white sand, this beautiful
island retreat certainly looks the part. It’s a great way to arrive - a
50-minutes’ ride across turquoise seas from the airport. Even when
it’s full, the Olhuveli Beach & Spa Resort feels uncrowded. There’s a
tranquil, relaxed ambience about the place. Everything is
uncluttered. And it’s helped along by friendly staff whose efficiency
comes with a calm, relaxed courtesy. The public areas are modern,
spacious and stylish.
And when it comes to accommodation, there’s a choice of elegantlyfurnished
places to choose from. Deluxe rooms with four-poster
beds are in two-storey blocks hidden among tall palms in the
gardens. Plus you’ve got beach villas and exotic water villas on stilts
to consider as well. Not surprisingly, most of the superb activities
served up here have a watery theme. With an abundance of
multi-hued tropical fish, the snorkelling and diving opportunities are
to-die-for. If you can drag yourself away from the beach, there are
two infinity pools which seem to stretch right out into the lagoon.
It’s the perfect spot to lie back and take in those matchless views of
paradise, Maldives-style. And, if after all that you need any further
pampering, pad along to the spa for an ultimate wind-down
massage. Lastly, there’s the food - quite simply it’s sensational.
