It was the tumultuous year of 1968. There were 

riots in the streets of America, war in Vietnam, and a widespread, 

underlying fear of the Soviet Union’s scope, power, and hostility 

toward the West. 

In that same year, I was invited by Dr. Jerry Falwell to Lynchburg,

Virginia, to preach at Thomas 

Road Baptist Church. That day, 

I presented a message entitled 

“The Coming War With 

Russia,” a message I had 

preached for many years. 

Afterward, Dr. Falwell told me, 

“You either put that on a 

record and sell it, or I will!” 

Great Christian scholars 

have written and spoken of 

this in ages past — in 1760, in 

1890, and in 1908 — but I was 

literally one of the first in our 

generation to preach the truth 

about a coming war with 

Russia (DeHaan was another) 

— and I stand by that original 

message to this day. It is a 

message not of war in a distant 

time, but in our lifetime. And 

even though in 1968 a war with 

Russia alone was unthinkable, 

because of the solidarity of the 

15 states of the Soviet Union, I 

predicted a war with Russia 

alone, not the Union — which

the eventual breakup of the 

Union made eminently possible! 

After I called the attention of the 

world to this prophetic truth, 

others followed, preaching 

similar messages about the 

coming war with Russia (Hal 

Lindsay, Tim LaHaye, and Grant 

Jeffrey). 

Today, it is time to not only 

express this message afresh 

and anew, but to go beyond 

war with Russia — to proclaim 

the truth about what will happen 

after war with Russia ... after 

the greatest battle of all time ... 

After Armageddon! This is the 

title of the latest video teaching

simply because of the scope of 

the devastation to be wrought 

upon the earth as a result of 

this cataclysmic confrontation,

I remember one of our 

journeys to the Holy Land, 

when Rexella and I were 

touring Israel, and we decided 

to ask strangers on the street 

what “Armageddon” meant to 

them. One Israeli woman said, 

with emphatic certainty, “The 

destruction of all of us.” 

But she was wrong. She 

shares one of the most common, 

and most fear-inspiring, 

misconceptions in the world 

today. There will indeed be a 

world left after Armageddon. 

Billions will be left after this 

battle! This world will not end. 

Isaiah 45:17 and Ephesians 

3:21 both say that ours is a 

“world without end;” I have 

120 other texts from Scripture 

affirming this teaching! (Also:

great war would be with 

Russia) 

There have also been 

innumerable erroneous ideas 

about what Armageddon 

actually is. Some felt World War I 

would become Armageddon. 

Others were sure that World War 

II would be “the big one.” When 

the atom bombs fell at 

Hiroshima and Nagasaki, many 

believed they had witnessed 

the beginning of Armageddon. 

After such horrors — and many 

others, in so many parts of the 

world — millions have been 

left with a deep-seated 

uneasiness about the future. 

But now, that uneasiness can 

be replaced with a sense of 

promise, an authentic hope — 

because of the truth that we 

present from God’s Word in 

this extraordinary new video, 

After Armageddon. Yes, it will 

be the largest and bloodiest 

battle in history, with a river of 

blood flowing for 200 miles (the 

length of modern-day Israel 

Revelation 14:20). And the 

images in the Bible of great 

fire and brimstone which 

dissolve the elements could 

easily be those of atomic 

warfare (Revelation 8:7; 9:18). 

But the world will survive — 

and there is a future for planet 

earth after Armageddon. I 

reveal it all in this new video 

— answering such intriguing

Word. Ezekiel 38 and 39 talk 

about a war with Russia. The 

opening words of Ezekiel 38 

set the stage: 

1 And the word of the LORD 

came unto me, saying, 

2 Son of man, set thy face 

against Gog, the land of Magog, 

the chief prince of Meshech 

and Tubal, and prophesy against 

him, 

3 And say, Thus saith the Lord 

GOD; Behold, I am against 

thee, O Gog, the chief prince 

of Meshech and Tubal: 

4 And I will turn thee back, 

and put hooks into thy jaws, and 

I will bring thee forth, and all 

thine army, horses and 

horsemen, all of them clothed 

with all sorts of armour, even a 

great company with bucklers 

and shields, all of them 

handling swords: 

5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya 

with them; all of them with 

shield and helmet: 

6 Gomer, and all his bands; 

the house of Togarmah of the 

north quarters, and all his bands: 

and many people with thee. 

Who is Gog Gog refers to 

the end-time ruler or leader of 

the four tribes. The other names 

in this passage are cross-referenced 

elsewhere in Scripture 

and confirmed in history. For 

example, Psalm 2:1-6 talks 

about the battle of Gog and 

Magog. Meshech is also 

mentioned in Genesis 10:1-3; he 

was the father of the Gentile 

people of the world. The

Scythians who originally settled 

Russia were called Magogs by 

the Greeks. Meshech This is 

actually the city of Moscow; 

Meshech used to be its name! 

Tubal is a city in the southwest 

of Siberia. Rosh is Russia, and 

the ancient writer Gesenius 

identified Rosh as the tribe 

dwelling in the area of the 

Volga — which is Russia. 

Today, I see events aligning 

more and more with the biblical 

predictions. Russia’s President 

Vladimir Putin has moved his 

country down a troubling road, 

developing new super-missiles 

and building troubling alliances 

in the Middle East — even 

traveling to the region. It’s the 

first time in 40 years that a top 

Russian leader has personally 

visited these nations in order 

to build partnerships. The past 

and future are colliding in the 

present. Dr. Wilbur Smith, an 

Episcopalian and former 

instructor at Moody Bible 

Institute, before he died said 

that in the 11th Century, 

northern barbarian hordes 

invaded Constantinople. And 

if you draw a line from Israel 

straight upward to the North 

Pole, the line goes directly 

through Moscow. Jeremiah 

1:13 and 10:22, as well as 

Daniel 11:40-44, talk about the 

king of the north who unites 

with the kings of the east. 

Imagine a military pact 

between the enormous nations 

of Russia and China, with millions 

upon millions of soldiers! 

There is no question: Russia 

will attack Israel in the first 

invasion of Armageddon — the 

first of three invasions which 

comprise the entire Armageddon 

saga of future history — and 

[ ] 

Nations that 

hate Israel want 

to destroy 

America simply 

because of our 

love for the Jews! 

this invasion will last a 

devastating three-and-a-half 

years. Among Russia’s allies: 

Persia (Iran-Iraq, Ezekiel 38:5-7), 

Cush (Ethiopia, Sudan, and the 

African Muslim nations), and 

Put (Libya, Algeria, Morocco, 

and Tunisia). Psalm 83:5-7 

almost mentions Lebanon, 

Jordan, and the Palestinians as 

allies of Russia. Another of 

Russia’s allies will be “Gomer;” 

the Talmud says this is modernday 

Germany. At the moment, 

Germany is part of the European 

Union, but I feel they will 

withdraw in order to align with 

Russia against Israel. Already 

we see neo-Nazis building 

strength, and fanning the fires 

of hatred for the Jews, in that 

country. Russia will also be 

aided by Togarmah — this is 

Turkey — united with Arab 

nations already openly hostile 

toward Israel. Daniel 11:40 

tells us the king of the south, 

Egypt, will head up the Arab 

federation intent on destroying 

Israel. Isaiah 17:1 says Syria 

will be also involved and her 

capital, Damascus, will 

become a heap of rubble! 

Why three invasions 

Because Russia will be defeated 

at the conclusion of the first 

drive, her armies pushed all 

the way back to Siberia. More 

than 80% of the army will be 

crushed. It will take every 

available person in Israel a 

total of seven months, working 

around the clock, just to bury 

the Russian troops that died in 

Invasion #1. 

The second invasion will be 

led by China, accompanied by 

the remainder of Russia’s army. 

Revelation 16:12 indicates that 

China, North Korea, and other


oriental nations will be central 

to the second invasion. We 

see the “writing on the wall” 

in this regard too: China is 

building up its military, and 

working on alliances with 

Russia, Iran, and other Muslim 

countries. Already, China has 

200 million soldiers and civilians 

trained for warfare, according 

to the CIA! 

The Bible tells us that the 

waters of the Euphrates River 

will be dried up so that the 

armies can cross on dry land. 

Only in our lifetime has this 

become possible — because 

modern-day Turkey has built 

17 hydro-electric plants and 21 

dams on the Euphrates; at the 

push of a button, they can dry up 

any part of the river they want! 

In other words: this war 

could take place at any time! 

It will be a war of 

unprecedented scope. A third 

of all mankind will be slain. 

We see the earmarks of atomic 

weaponry in the prophetic 

images of Psalm 97:3, Zephaniah 

1:18, Malachi 4:1, and Revelation 

8:7 and 9:18. 

But will you and I be here to 

witness the conflagration Not 

if we have received Jesus Christ 

as Lord and Savior! Revelation 

3:10 assures us that God will 

keep us from the horrors of 

Armageddon — we’ll be 

raptured earlier! 

Then — finally — will come 

the third invasion. Zechariah 

14:2 speaks of “all nations” 

coming against Israel. But some 

will stand with the beleaguered 

Chosen People: “Tarshish and 

her young lions” — this refers to 

Great Britain and the Englishspeaking 

nations of the world, 

including North America, 

Australia and New Zealand. 

The E.U. will be involved as 

well (the “king of the west” 

refers to the European Union). 

It is America’s support for Israel 

that has precipitated this entire 

21st century age of terrorism. 

Nations that hate Israel want to 

destroy America simply because 

of our love for the Jews! Osama 

bin Laden was forthright in 

declaring this as his reason for 

wanting to destroy the U.S. 

Israel stands at the center of 

the conflict. Ezekiel 38 and 39 

mention 18 times that Israel is 

the site of Armageddon. Jesus 

said in Matthew 24:9 that Israel 

would be “hated of all nations 

for my name’s sake.” Satan loves 

the idea of turning so many 

nations against Israel because 

God loves the Jew! Jeremiah 

3:14 says Israel is God’s wife, 

the apple of His eye. 

We live in the “latter days” 

— on the verge of 

Armageddon. The evidence is 

overwhelming! The Bible says 

in the latter days: 

1. Russia will be a mighty 

power — and it is. 

2. China will be a mighty 

power — and it is. 

3. Israel will be a nation — 

and it has been, since 1948. 

4. The E.U. will form — and 

it is on its way to being a 

world power. 

All is in place for Jesus to 

come soon!

them David to be their 

king; to whom also he 

gave testimony, and 

said, I have found 

David the son of Jessie, 

a man after mine 

own heart, which shall 

fulfil all my will 

(Acts 13:22, emphasis mine). 

What a phenomenal statement! 

To my knowledge, this is the 

only such divine endorsement of 

a human being in all the Bible 

— there is no other man out of 

all the patriarchs and men of 

faith from Genesis to Revelation 

who is described by God himself 

as “a man after mine own 

heart.” That’s truly awesome! 

My question is, Why Here 

was a lowly shepherd boy, at the 

bottom of the social hierarchy, 

even in his day. He was a daydreamer, 

a poet, musician, and 

minstrel. The record of his life 

shows that he would make 

many mistakes, encounter many 

enemies, fall prey to his passions, 

lose the respect of his 

wife, and be estranged from his 

son. Yet God said — “I have 

found him... a man after mine 

own heart!” 

God surely knew everything 

— past, present, and future — 

about David and recognized that 

he was and would be a sinner 

who needed a Savior. And certainly 

David looked forward to 

the cross (as we look back), 

offering animal sacrifices to be 

cleansed of his sins and saying,

forward to the day that my

QUALIFIED ... BY 

FULFILLING THE 

WILL OF GOD 

What qualified David to be 

distinguished as a man after God’s 

own heart The Lord recognized 

that David lived his life to fulfill 

the will of God. As a lad, David’s 

primary assignment was to be a 

shepherd, and David sought to 

be the very best shepherd he 

could possibly be, living a life 

of service. He led his flock to 

green pastures, and beside still 

waters. He protected his sheep 

from predators and fearsome


animals like lions and bears. At 

night he sang to them so they 

could hear his voice and feel 

secure. 

I believe that during the lonely 

hours in the fields with the 

sheep, when David was lost in 

daydreams, his dreams were 

about God. When he wrote and 

sang songs to his flock, they 

were songs of praise and 

worship to God, full of faith, 

hope, and peace. 

The news of David’s music 

spread, and all who heard his 

songs, or psalms, realized they 

were different from the folk 

songs of the hills. These songs 

were God-directed, with a 

strange power and anointing 

upon them, leaving the hearer 

uplifted, released from worry 

and care, and filled with grace 

and peace. 

Soon there came a request 

from the king of the land, who 

was often troubled and 

depressed, for David to come to 

the palace to play his harp and 

sing. After his first appearance, 

David was called often to 

minister to Saul because the 

music could calm the king’s 

anxiety and fear, restore joy and 

hope, and lift his spirits. Why 

Because David’s songs were 

God-centered, full of faith, and 

focused on fulfilling the will of 

the Lord. 

When David was just a 

shepherd boy, he sought to be 

the best shepherd he could be 

— serving, caring for, and loving 

the sheep. When he was called 

to go to the palace and sing 

songs of peace and praise to 

God for the king, David 

immediately went to serve the 

Lord. One day he would become 

the king of God’s people, but 

[ ] 

God loved David 

just as much 

when he was 

singing and 

worshiping 

alone in the 

fields with the 

sheep, as when 

he wore a royal 

robe as king of 

the nation! 

long before that day came, 

David learned to serve God 

wholly and completely right 

where he was — a shepherd boy 

tending sheep in the fields. That 

attitude of being totally sold out 

to the Lord moved God’s heart. 

That’s a challenge to all of 

us. Before we are elevated to 

become a minister or missionary, 

or are called to serve in some 

special way, we can serve the 

Lord now, wherever we find 

ourselves. My father, Rex 

Shelton, never stood behind the 

pulpit, but at General Motors 

he often found opportunities to 

share his testimony and witness 

to others, one on one. 

Whether you are an usher 

at your church, a teacher, or 

perhaps serve behind the 

scenes on a committee — 

whatever you do, do it as unto 

the Lord with all your heart. 

Be an example of a believer 

in your neighborhood or 

workplace. Seek to do God’s 

will in all your endeavors. The 

Word says, In all thy ways 

acknowledge him, and he shall 

direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:6). 

GOD LOVED DAVID, THE 

SHEPHERD, AS MUCH 

AS DAVID, THE KING 

Someone said to me the other 

day, “How wonderful that you 

can serve the Lord and reach 

millions of people. That must 

please the Lord so much!” But 

I remember well, in the early 

years of our ministry, when Jack 

and I ministered in churches 

with small congregations. We 

labored just as hard, and 

faithfully poured out our souls 

to a handful of people in small 

places then as we do now when 

we speak to thousands in a public 

meeting and to multiplied millions 

each week on television. And I 

believe that God was just as 

pleased with us then as He is 

now! You know, really, God 

loved David just as much when 

he was singing and worshiping 

alone in the fields with the 

sheep, as when he wore a royal 

robe as king of the nation! 

But again, Why David 

What made him so special 

that he was uniquely 

designated as a man after 

God’s own heart What did 

he do to get God’s attention 

I think the number-one thing 

about David was that ...


HE KNEW WHO GOD WAS 

Have you ever been in a public 

auditorium, or attended a special 

event, and found that a famous 

celebrity or prominent VIP was 

also in attendance Perhaps 

you even overheard people 

whispering to friends, “Do you 

know who that is” 

Having the privilege of 

interviewing some 250 world 

figures, at times I have entered 

a restaurant or hotel meeting 

room with a famous person 

and noticed the eyes of 

bystanders following us, or 

seen lips moving as people 

whispered, “Do you know who 

they are” Often these people 

were recognized for their 

famous name, position, or 

some notable achievement. 

David knew who God was 

because of what he saw. And 

he testified, The earth is the 

LORD’s, and the fulness 

thereof; the world, and they 

that dwell therein (Psalm 24:1). 

The heavens declare the glory 

of God; and the firmament 

sheweth his handywork 

(Psalm 19:1). David knew that 

God was the Creator of the 

world. Consequently, he could 

worship Him with all of his 

heart and sing unto the Lord 

with all of his soul because he 

knew who God was. 

In fact, he was so humbled 

by all that he saw that he cried 

out, “Oh, I can’t believe this — 

When I consider thy heavens, 

the work of thy fingers, the 

moon and the stars, which thou 

hast ordained; what is man, 

that thou art mindful of him 

and the son of man, that thou 

visitest him” (Psalm 8:3,4). 

He looked at the heavens and 

realized they could only have 

come into being by the hand of 

God. He looked at himself and 

saw only a poor shepherd, a 

dreamer and singer of songs, 

and exclaimed, “You are so 

great — who am I to even be 

noticed by You. What is man, 

that thou art mindful of him” 

I believe that God wants all 

of us to put Him in that place 

in our hearts, just as David did. 

Probably, the song that moves 

my heart more than any other 

in the Gospel world is How 

Great Thou Art. Even as this 

wonderful song recognizes the 

absolute supremacy of God, I 

always find my spirit being lifted 

up in His glory. 

Don’t forget that David had 

been called to King Saul’s 

court to play and sing for the 

king to help lift his spirits from 

depression and despair, not 

just once, but perhaps many 

times. David could have said, 

“Hey, did you know the king 

calls on me for help I’m pretty 

important.” Instead, he humbled 

himself in the presence of God 

and said, “I’m a nobody — who 

am I that You’d even notice me. 

The king may call me, but I 

have nothing to say from my 

own wisdom that can help him 

— it’s You that I play and sing 

about, and Your spirit that 

ministers to the troubled heart 

of the king.” 

I believe that God saw what 

kind of heart David had, and 

that he put his faith and trust 

in Him. He heard this little 

shepherd declare, The LORD 

is my shepherd; I shall not 

want (Psalm 23:1). God knew 

that David understood the 

responsibility of a shepherd 

because he was one. Long 

before he was called to be a 

king, he knew how others 

depended on him, and he 

was keenly aware of how he 

depended on God. So he focused 

on praising God and ministering 

to the sheep, just as later he 

would seek the Lord for wisdom 

and guidance to provide 

leadership to a nation. 

To me, this is one of the 

primary reasons that God took 

notice of David and said, “You 

know who I am — you’re a

man after My own heart.” 

DAVID TRUSTED IN GOD 

Over and over again in his 

prayers and songs (recorded 

for us in the Psalms), David 

articulated his faith, trust, and 

confidence in the Lord — 

The LORD is my rock, and 

my fortress, and my deliverer; 

my God, my strength, in 

whom I will trust. 

Trust in the LORD, and do 

good; so shalt thou dwell in 

the land, and verily thou 

shalt be fed. Commit thy 

way unto the LORD; trust 

also in him; and he shall 

bring it to pass. 

What time I am afraid, I 

will trust in thee. In God 

have I put my trust: I will 

not be afraid what man can 

do unto me. 

I will say of the LORD, He 

is my refuge and my 

fortress: my God; in him 

will I trust. 

It is better to trust in the 

LORD than to put confidence 

in man. My goodness, and 

my fortress; my high tower, 

and my deliverer; my shield, 

and he in whom I trust.

In thinking about this article, 

I could not help but think 

about my parents. Neither of 

them was called into full-time 

Christian service, but they were 

both full-time Christians! So I 

looked in both of their personal 

New Testaments (with the 

Psalms included in the back), 

and I cannot tell you how many 

Psalms they had marked. 

In my father’s Bible was a 

marked verse that I remember 

him using often in those last 

weeks as he prepared to go 

home and meet the Lord — O 

Lord my God, in thee do I put 

my trust (Psalm 7:1). There 

can be no confusion when we 

put our trust in the Lord every 

moment of the day — even the 

last day of our lives! 

Two of Mother’s marked 

verses that caught my eye 

were — This is the day which 

the LORD hath made; we will 

rejoice and be glad in it and O 

give thanks unto the LORD, 

for he is good: for his mercy 

endureth for ever (Psalm 118:24; 

136:1). Giving thanks is an 

important part of trusting! Like 

David, we can give thanks for 

what God is going to do as well 

as for what He has already done. 

David had a thankful heart 

even as he went through the 

valleys of temptation and anxiety 

that were put before him as 

the king of Israel. When he had 

to go into battle, he put his 

faith and trust in the Lord. All 

of us, every single day of our 

lives, are subject to trials and 

tribulations in our world, but 

how wonderful to know that 

we can put our trust in Him. 

I believe that God uses the 

waves of trials to draw us closer 

to himself. Then, when we’re 

close enough to hear His voice, 

He always says, “Peace, be still!” 

Andrae Crouch testified in his 

song Through It All, “If I’d 

never had a problem, I wouldn’t 

know God could solve them, 

I’d never know what faith in 

God could do.” A devotional I 

read recently reminded me 

that if we turn our troubles 

over to God, we have nothing 

left to worry about. I like that. 

As a shepherd responsible 

for protecting his flock, David 

had occasion to do battle with 

a lion and a bear that came 

to attack the sheep. But God 

helped and empowered him to 

face these fierce predators and 

kill them. Those experiences 

just helped David to trust God 

more. Later, when he stood 

before the giant, Goliath, he 

could say, “I’m not afraid of 

you — you’re no different than 

the lion or the bear because 

God is supreme over all!” 

When King Saul and the 

entire army of Israel heard the 

bellowed threats of Goliath 

and saw the massive Philistine 

forces, they were too 

frightened to fight. “Goliath 

is so big that nobody can 

defeat him,” they said. 

But David went out carrying 

a shepherd’s slingshot and a 

pocketful of rocks. He took 

one look at the giant and said,


“He is so big that I can’t possibly 

miss! The Lord’s going to use me 

to bring this big guy down.” And 

that’s exactly what happened. 

Will trust work for you 

Absolutely. Remember and 

practice the truth of Proverbs 

3:5 — Trust in the LORD with 

all thine heart; and lean not 

unto thine own understanding. 

In all thy ways acknowledge 

him, and he shall direct thy 

paths. 

David knew who God was, 

and he put his faith and trust 

in this wonderful, almighty 

God. And thirdly ... 

DAVID KNEW HE 

WOULD LIVE WITH GOD 

FOREVER 

Read it for yourself — the 

shepherd’s ultimate proclamation 

of blessed assurance. Verse six 

of Psalm 23 confidently declares, 

Surely goodness and mercy 

shall follow me all the days of 

my life: and I will dwell in the 

house of the LORD forever. 

What a promise — every day 

that we live, our steps are 

overshadowed by God’s 

goodness and mercy. And 

when we cross over into the 

next life, we shall live in God’s 

house forever. 

This is what awaits those who 

know who God is, who put their 

trust in Him, and accept His 

promise of everlasting life and 

fellowship. Somehow David 

came to know and believe all 

these marvelous things when he 

was just a humble shepherd. 

No wonder God found him and 

called him to greatness. No 

wonder he above all others in 

all of history was singled out 

as a man after God’s own heart! 

In this dark world we’re living 

in today, it’s easy to have our 

focus in the wrong place and 

spend too much of our time 

contemplating how big the 

enemy is. But there is no answer, 

no hope in this world except 

Jesus Christ. 

Only as we follow David’s 

unmistakable example of 

knowing who God is, putting 

our trust in Him, and confidently 

expecting to live in the house 

of the Lord forever, can we live 

our earthly lives in victory and 

do His will. I urge you to join me 

in speaking out boldly today. 

Let us proclaim together — 

“God, I know who You are! 

“God, I put my faith and trust 

in You! 

“God, very soon — perhaps 

today — I will come to dwell 

in Your house forever!”

pledged to step up scientific and technological reforms in the 

military, as he marked the 40th anniversary of the nation’s 

nuclear force, state media said. 

‘To establish a strategic missile armed force and build up the 

Second Artillery Corps is a major strategic decision of the 

Communist Party Central Committee and the Central Military 

Commission,’ state television quoted Hu as saying. 

He was speaking on the 40th anniversary of the Second 

Artillery Corps, the nation’s strategic nuclear missile force, a 

date that also marks the 85th anniversary of the ruling party. 

Television footage showed Hu with the members of the 

powerful military commission greeting officers of the corps 

that has also played a key role in the development of the 

nation’s rocketry. 

‘The army should bring into full play the role of science and 

technology and carry out reforms and innovations, so as to 

set up a scientific system for military training under the new 

circumstances,’ Hu said. 

Hu was referring to China’s efforts to build a high-tech fighting 

force, based on the precision bombing and information warfare 

used by the United States in its wars on Iraq. 

The U.S. has taken China’s military modernization seriously 

with a report by the Pentagon saying that Beijing was building 

up missile forces on its southeastern coast facing Taiwan. 

‘The region appeared to be the near-term focus of China’s 

build up,’ it said. 

It also said China was spending two to three times more on 

its military than the 35 billion dollars a year it has acknowledged 

and that such spending could result in a potential threat to the

I was born to a Jewish father and a non-Jewish

holding the beliefs taught to me by the Jehovah’s
