SLUDGE EFFLUENT<br />

BUILDING<br />

The sludge effluent object can be used to represent the haulage of sludge from the wastewater<br />

treatment plant. Similar to the wastewater effluent object, it has no effect on the process, and<br />

merely represents the terminus of the sludge stream in the model layout. Users can specify the<br />

cost of sludge disposal (per mass), which is then used to calculate an overall sludge disposal cost<br />

for this stream.<br />

The building object does not have any effect on the treatment of liquid or solids streams. It is<br />

used for the estimation of energy requirements of buildings on the treatment plant site. Users can<br />

place as many building as needed on the <strong>GPS</strong>-X layout. In each object, users can specify the area<br />

of the building, are used for refrigeration, and the energy costs per unit area (plus any extra<br />

miscellaneous energy demand), as shown in Figure 11-28:<br />

Energy requirements for the building are shown in the Output Variable menu, as shown in Figure<br />

11-29 below. Note that all energy requirements for buildings are included in the plant-wide<br />

energy demand calculations.<br />
