SLUDGE EFFLUENT
BUILDING
The sludge effluent object can be used to represent the haulage of sludge from the wastewater
treatment plant. Similar to the wastewater effluent object, it has no effect on the process, and
merely represents the terminus of the sludge stream in the model layout. Users can specify the
cost of sludge disposal (per mass), which is then used to calculate an overall sludge disposal cost
for this stream.
The building object does not have any effect on the treatment of liquid or solids streams. It is
used for the estimation of energy requirements of buildings on the treatment plant site. Users can
place as many building as needed on the GPS-X layout. In each object, users can specify the area
of the building, are used for refrigeration, and the energy costs per unit area (plus any extra
miscellaneous energy demand), as shown in Figure 11-28:

Energy requirements for the building are shown in the Output Variable menu, as shown in Figure
11-29 below. Note that all energy requirements for buildings are included in the plant-wide
energy demand calculations.
