Boart Longyear expands Mine Water Services
INTEGRATED drilling products and services
provider Boart Longyear plans to expand
Mine Water Services to the Asia Pacific region
as well as Latin America, Europe and
the Middle East.
During the last 25 years, Boart Longyear
Drilling Services has developed and honed
an effective reverse circulation method in
North America, and has established what it
says is the leading process within the industry
while creating the most highly specialized
crews in the world.
Boart Longyear’s global director of drilling
services operations Dale Johnson says, “Boart
Longyear utilizes a unique process capable of
drilling large diameter holes in the most difficult
ground conditions in a single-pass.
“Drilling a large diameter borehole in a single-pass
as opposed to multiple passes
which can degrade the bore-hole improves
the likelihood of drilling a straight borehole to
target depth successfully. Our unique method
of drilling and completing wells provides better
overall well efficiency and production - ultimately
saving our client’s downtime and
money over the life of a well.”
Boart Longyear offers a complete range of
mine and other water services drilling, including
production, de-watering, re-injection,
monitoring, geothermal and municipal wells.

pump installation and servicing.

are primarily utilized for monitoring water tables
in and around the mine, water supply

horizontal drains to eliminate perched water
causing pressure on mine pit walls.”

Fortescue buys 14 Vermeer Terrain Levelers
VERMEER Corporation and its authorized regional
dealer Vermeer Western Australia and
Northern Territory have announced that
Fortescue Metals Group of East Perth, Western
Australia, has agreed to purchase 14 Vermeer
Terrain Leveler surface excavation
machines (SEMs) to be used in its vast mining
operations in the state’s Pilbara region.
Vermeer’s senior director for specialty excavation
Mark Cooper says, “This order
comes after significant investment in product
development by Vermeer, as well as commitment
by the local dealer to support the operations.
Having a respected industry leader
like Fortescue embrace the technology further
validates its place in the market.”
The Vermeer surface excavation machines
allow mines to utilize precision surface mining
meaning mine operators can selectively extract
mineral seams in surface mining applications.
Operators can also control material sizing
thus producing small-sized material in a uniform
configuration so minerals can be handled
more efficiently than product produced by
drilling and blasting. The uniform product size
allows more efficient settings on secondary
and tertiary crushing systems, savings that can
continue well past the primary crushing stage.
The delivery of machines was scheduled to
begin in December 2011 and additional machines
will ship through September of 2012.
