Jiangli funds for Radio Hill resumption
FOX Resources has signed a Memorandum of
Understanding with Jiangxi Jiangli Sci-Tech Co
regarding the development of the Radio Hill
and Sholl Nickel/Copper Bacterial Heap Leach
Project in Western Australia. Jiangli will provide
Aus$30 million to fund the initial phase of the
project and other associated activities.
Fox plans to mine an inventory of 6 million
tonnes of mineralization containing weighted
average grades of 0.59% nickel and 0.79%
copper over an initial mine life of nine years
from the project, which is 35km south of Karratha
in the Pilbara region.
The Radio Hill mine produced nickel and
copper concentrate for four years, before
being placed on care and maintenance in
2008 following adverse commodity prices.
Fox has recently finalized a detailed scoping
study which outlines how the mining operation
can recommence using a bacterial heap
leach process to deliver project revenues of
$815 million over the initial mine life.
Utilization of heap leaching saves the company
power costs and yields higher metal recoveries
than the conventional crush, grind,
and float process. The end product contains a
much higher metal content than conventional
concentrate material. The existence of established
infrastructure including granted mining
leases, operating licences, offices, buildings,
accommodation, underground mine, tailings
dam, grid power, mains water and roads will
result in a rapid ramp-up, lower start-up capital
costs and lower ongoing operating costs.
At least one-third of the ore feed for the initial
year of production will be derived from existing
surface stockpiles of about 300,000 tonnes,
representing a significant saving in mining costs
and leading to further cost savings.
It confirms the potential of the project and reflects the culmination
of many months of hard work optimizing processes.
With the proposed funding arrangements under way we can
look forward to the commencement of construction to develop
the bacterial heap leach project.
Fox Resources is on track to resuming nickel and copper operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
Fox’s interim CEO Laurie Chew says the
MoU represents a significant milestone in returning
Radio Hill to production. “It confirms
the potential of the project and reflects the culmination
of many months of hard work optimizing
processes. With the proposed funding
arrangements under way we can look forward
to the commencement of construction to develop
the bacterial heap leach project.”
As part of the proposed arrangement, Fox
will provide Jiangli with 100% of nickel and
copper sulphide concentrates produced from
the project over the initial mine life, and extensions
to this term will be negotiable. The $30
million, plus interest, will effectively be repaid by
shipments of concentrates to Jiangli. The concentrates
will be transported to and shipped
from Dampier Port, which is about 40km away.
