Drilling extends Lady Colleen discovery
EXPLORATION drilling has further extended the
new Lady Colleen copper discovery at Hong
Kong-based CST Mining Group’s Lady Annie
Copper Project in northwest Queensland. The
latest drilling in transition/sulphide mineralization
has returned broad intersections at greater than
1% copper and an initial mineral resource estimate
is expected by the end of quarter 2, 2012.
Significant intersections from the drilling include
17 metres @ 1.05% copper from 56
metres in transition, 17 metres @ 3.30% copper
and 1086ppm cobalt from 138 metres in
transition-sulphide, and 19 metres @ 1.37%
copper from 159 metres and 34 metres @
2.73% from 157 metres in sulphide.
CST has pursued an aggressive exploration
campaign during 2011 to increase the
oxide/transition resource inventory at Lady
Annie. The Lady Colleen deposit, 700 metres
to the west of Mt Clarke West Pit, continues
to return exciting exploration drilling results.
The new mineralized intervals confirm extension
of the mineralized zone to the northeast.
Copper mineralization remains open to
the north, south and down plunge. Of particular
interest are the significant elevated cobalt
values in association with copper. Further extension
drilling will enhance understanding of
the copper-cobalt association in the deposit
and is ongoing with a combination of reverse
circulation and diamond drilling.
Lady Annie is a copper mine and SX/EW
processing facility about 120km northwest of
the mining town of Mount Isa. CST owns
100% of Lady Annie and resumed copper
production in November 2010. The operation
has the capacity to annually produce 25,000-
30,000 tonnes of copper cathodes. Total resources
to date consist of 65.16 million
tonnes @ 0.71% copper for 459,900 tonnes
of contained copper metal.
CST’s chief executive officer Yang Yi-fang
said in November that lower than expected
copper grades mined at Lady Annie had
caused the company to downgrade full year
production guidance for 2011 from 24,000-
25,000 tonnes to around 20,000 tonnes.
Lady Annie lies within the Mount Isa Inlier
which contains numerous world-class base
and precious metals ore bodies. The potential
for additions to resources and reserves are excellent
in and around the existing ore bodies
and on the company’s highly prospective
3000sqkm of exploration tenements.
The company is conducting infill drilling and
metallurgical test work aimed at increasing
reserves and mine life while a wider nearmine
and regional exploration program on
surrounding tenements continues to bring
successful results.
