Winter Safety<br />
With winter coming upon us soon, it is important to remind<br />
ourselves and our children of the importance of staying<br />
off of creeks, swamps and lakes before the ice is fully frozen.<br />
Please ensure the ice is safe (normally in cold weather ice<br />
should be 10-12 inches thick) before going on it for walking,<br />
skating or with snowmobiles. Dress properly for the weather,<br />
and when ice fishing or snowmobiling, always let someone<br />
know where you are going and your expected time of arrival<br />
back home. This is also a remin<strong>de</strong>r to have safety gear in your<br />
backpacks or the trunk or back seat of your vehicles in case<br />
you get stran<strong>de</strong>d or stuck. These should inclu<strong>de</strong> a blanket, extra<br />
mittens, sweater, flashlight, waterproof matches, candles,<br />
water bottles, granola bars and flares. In case of emergency,<br />
remember not to panic and to stay calm. <br />
