Indus Coal to initiate
MukoMuko drilling
ASX-LISTED Indus Coal intends to initiate a JORC-compliant drilling
program on its MukoMuko Coal Project in Bengkulu province of
Western Sumatra by the end of June. The drilling was delayed while the
company focused on completing legal and technical due diligence, and
financing and settling the first stage of the purchase of the Jambi Coal
Projects, also in Sumatra.
While completing this work Indus has ensured that the MukoMuko
project has met its environmental and forestry commitments, continued
to accumulate data for the preliminary feasibility study, maintained
ongoing native title commitments in the local villages and progressed the
exploration program via additional outcrop sampling.
MukoMuko covers 2337 hectares of which about 63% encompasses
the coal-bearing Lemau Formation and about 19% the secondary
prospective Bitunan formation.
Late last year Indus agreed to a series of transactions to purchase an
indirect interest in three thermal coal-bearing concessions totalling
14,394 hectares in the thermal coal producing region of Jambi province.
In early 2013 it purchased a 38% stake in BEP and BMC, representing
stage 1 of the acquisition. The company has the right to purchase a further
38% interest while the vendor has the option to sell to Indus a further
24% shareholding, subject to the satisfaction of certain conditions.
The concessions are Block 7 (5001 hectares), Block 8 (4380 hectares)
and Block 9 (5013 hectares) in Jambi province, to the east of the
MukoMuko project and with similar risk/reward profile. All three have
granted exploration licence IUPs while Block 9 also has an AMDAL
clearance (environmental licence). Indus expected that a production IUP
and all necessary forestry permits would be granted for Block 9 during
the first quarter of 2013. AMDAL clearances and forestry permits for the
other blocks are expected before June 30.
Numerous operating coal mines are in close proximity to all three concessions
with stripping rates between 1:1 and 1:6. Regional costs of coal
mine production are about US$32 per tonne while the coal being mined
has an average calorific value of 5300-5700 kcal/kg and sulphur content
of 0.059-1.04%, and sells for US$48 per tonne.
A 150-hole JORC-compliant drilling program for 15,000 metres has
been planned across the concessions and will start with a 70-hole campaign
on Block 9 over a ‘sweet spot’ of 1000 hectares.
Indus is focused on bringing the MukoMuko and Jambi projects to
production over the next 12 months and is continuing to build scale with
local coal partner PT Param Energy, a company founded by Indus executive
director Vinay Hariani and which is a vertically integrated coal
mining business with 15 years of experience in coal project identification,
coal mining and international coal trading in Indonesia.

dan teknis, serta menyediakan dana dan menyelesaikan tahap pertama
pembelian Proyek-proyek batubara Jambi, juga di Sumatera.
Sambil menyelesaikan kegiatan-kegiatan tersebut Indus meyakinkan
bahwa proyek MukoMuko telah memenuhi syarat-syarat lingkungan dan
perhutanan, terus mengumpulkan data untuk feasibility study awal, mengawal
syarat-syarat hak pribumi di kampong-kampung setempat dan telah
meneruskan program eksplorasi melalui sampel outcrop tambahan.
MukoMuko mencakup 2337 hektar 63% darinya adalah batubara Formasi
Lemau dan lebih kurang 19% prospektif sekunder formasi Bitunan.
Pada akhir tahun lalu Indus menyetujui beberapa transaksi untuk membeli
saham tidak langsung di tiga konsesi batubara panas berjumlah
14,394 hektar di daerah produksi batubara panas Propinsi Jambi. Sebagai
tahap pertama dari akuisisi ini pada awal 2013 ia telah membeli 38%
saham di BEP dan BMC. Perusahaan ini berhak membeli 38% lagi sedangkan
pihak penjual mempunyai opsi menjual kepada Indus 24% lagi
saham setelah memenuhi beberapa syarat-syarat tertentu.
Konsesi-konsesi tersebut adalah Blok 7 (5001 hektar), Blok 8 (4380
hektar) dan Blok 9 (5013 hektar) di Propinsi Jambi, disebelah timur
proyek MukoMuko dan dengan profil risiko/hasil yang mirip sama.
Ketiga-tiganya telah mendapatkan lisensi IUP eksplorasi sedangkan Blok
9 juga mempunyai pembebasan AMDAL (lisensi lingkungan). Indus
mengharapkan IUP produksi dan semua izin-izin kehutanan yang diperlukan
akan didapati untuk Blok 9 pada kwartal pertama 2013.
Pembebasan AMDAL dan izin-izin kehutanan untuk blok-blok lainnya
diharapkan sebelum 30 Juni.
Banyak lagi tambang-tambang batubara lain beroperasi didekat ketiga
konsesi-konsesi tersebut dengan nasbah stripping antara 1:1 sampai 1:6.
Biaya-biaya setempat untuk produksi batubara berkisar sekitar AS$32 per
tonne sedangkan batubaranya mempunyai nilai kalorifis antara 5300-5700
kcal/kg dan kadar sulfur 0.059-1.04% dan dijual seharga AS$48 per tonne.
Sebuah program pemboran 150 lubang memenuhi syarat JORC sepanjang
15.000 meter menyangkut ketiga konsesi telah direncanakan dan
akan dimulai dengan kampanye 70 lubang di Blok 9 diatas ‘titik manis’
seluas 1000 hektar.
Indus bertekad menggiring proyek-proyek MukoMuko dan Jambi ke
taraf produksi dalam waktu 12 bulan dan terus mendirikan skala dengan
mitra lokal PT Param Energy, sebuah perusahaan pertambangan batubara
terintegrasi vertikal yang dibentuk oleh Direktur Eksekutif Indus, Vinay
Hariani dan berpengalaman 15 tahun dalam mengidentifikasi proyek
batubara, pertambangan batubara dan penjual-belian internasional
batubara di Indonesia.
