A Study about Social Anxiey using the ABC Theory of Rational-Emotive-Behavior-Therapy (REBT)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between irrational beliefs and
social anxiety using the ABC theory of Rational-Emotive-Behavior-Therapy (REBT). One
hundred and thirty four questionnaires were completed by university students. The
questionnaire was composed of the Japanese Irrational Belief Test and the Anthrophobic
Tendency Scale. The results indicated that students who have high irrational beliefs of
"problem avoidance", "helplessness inside", "dependence", and "helplessness outside" had
higher social anxiety than students who have low irrational beliefs about them. The results
were discussed to determine how to approach socially anxious students with the ABC theory
of REBT.
