مرحبا بكم في العدد الجديد من مجلة البيان<br />
كانت رشكة األبا يوم الثالثاء 10 مارس 2009، على موعد هو الأول من نوعه يف تاريخ الرشكة التي<br />

وياأتي هذا العدد اجلديد من جملة البيان ليسلط الضوء يف املقام الأول على هذه الزيارة امليمونة التي<br />
سنحت الفرصة لعدد من موظفي وموظفات الرشكة للقاء صاحبة السمو قرينة جاللة امللك حفظها اهلل<br />
وجهاً لوجه، والإشادة بدورها يف التنمية القتصادية يف اململكة صفحة )4(.<br />
كذلك يحوي العدد على لقاء مع اإحدى املهندسات يف املصهروالتي تبني مدى قدرة املراأة البحرينية على<br />
اإجناز ما يوكل اإليها من مهام جنباً اإىل جنب مع الرجل صفحة )18(.<br />
هذا ويحتوي العدد اجلديد على مواضيع اأخرى خمتلفة، نتمنى اأن تنال اإعجابكم، كما يسعدنا استقبال<br />

Tuesday, 10 March 2009 was a historic day in Alba's history. On that day, Her<br />
Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the wife of HM the King,<br />
Chairwoman of the Supreme Council of Women and the Honorary Chairwoman<br />
of <strong>Bahrain</strong> International Garden Show Organizing Committee visited Alba for the<br />
first time, and was accompanied by His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad<br />
Al Khalifa, Governor of the Southern Governorate and President of the General<br />
Directorate for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment, and Wildlife,<br />
and His Excellency Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, the Minsiter of<br />
Finance.<br />
The honourable guests were received by the Chairman of the Alba Board of<br />
Directors Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji and the Chief Executive Ahmed Saleh<br />
Al Noaimi (page 4).<br />
This issue of Albayan mainly highlights this remarkable event that gave number<br />
of employees the opportunity to meet Her Highness and receive praise for their<br />
role in the Kingdom’s economic development (page 4 ).<br />
The issue has a special interview with one of the female engineers at the smelter,<br />
which proves the capability of <strong>Bahrain</strong>i women to work along side men and<br />
accomplish any task (page 18).<br />
It also includes a number of other stories that I am sure you will enjoy reading<br />
in this issue. We are also happy to receive your comments and suggestions for<br />
the new issues.<br />

Sabeeka Oasis during her visit to Alba on Tuesday,<br />
10 March 2009.<br />
Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka was received by the<br />
Governor of the Southern Governorate and Chairman<br />
of the General Directorate for the Protection of Marine<br />
Resources, Environment and Wildlife, His Highness<br />
Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Minister of<br />
Finance, Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa,<br />
Chairmanof the Alba Board of Directors, Mahmood<br />
Hashim Al Kooheji, and other high officials from the<br />
company.<br />
In his welcome address, Mr Al Kooheji remarked that<br />
this visit was the first of its kind in the history of Alba<br />
and that it was indeed an occasion of great pride and<br />
celebration.<br />
He stressed Alba's belief on the importance of the<br />
environment and its impact on individuals and the<br />
society as a whole while highlighting the company's<br />
role in enhancing environmental awareness through<br />
different activities such as, photography competition<br />
and drawing contests.<br />
He further referred to the continuous support of<br />
Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka to the environment<br />
and in spreading greenery around the Kingdom. He<br />
also announced - at the end of his speech - that the<br />
Oasis would be named after Her Highness Shaikha<br />
Sabeeka, in thanks and appreciation of her support<br />
for spearheading the environmental message in<br />
<strong>Bahrain</strong>.<br />
Later during the visit, Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka<br />
delivered a speech, in which she valued Alba's efforts<br />
in spreading greenery and caring for the environment.<br />

ملعرض البحرين الدويل للحدائق يوم الثالثاء املوافق 10 مارس 2009<br />
بزيارة تفقدية لواحة األبا التابعة لرشكة اأملنيوم البحرين يف اإطار حرص<br />
واهتمام سموها بزيارة عدد من احلدائق املتميزة يف مملكة البحرين.<br />
وقد كان يف استقبال صاحبة السمو سمو الشيخ عبد اهلل بن حمد اآل خليفة<br />
حمافظ املحافظة اجلنوبية رئيس الهيئة العامة حلماية الرثوة البحرية<br />
والبيئة واحلياة الفطرية والشيخ اأحمد بن حممد اآل خليفة وزير املالية<br />
والسيد حممود هاشم الكوهجى رئيس جملس اإدارة رشكة اأملنيوم البحرين<br />
)األبا(، والسيد اأحمد صالح النعيمي الرئيس التنفيذي وعدد من كبار<br />
املسئولني بالرشكة .<br />
وفى بداية احلفل تفضل السيد حممود الكوهجي رئيس جملس الإدارة<br />
باإلقاء كلمة رحب فيها بصاحبة السمو موؤكداً اأهمية الزيارة الكرمية وهي<br />
الأوىل من نوعها منذ تاأسيس الرشكة يف عام 1968 والتي سوف يسجلها<br />
التاريخ يف حق الرشكة، مهنئا سموها بيوم املراأة العاملي وبتخصيص<br />
يوم للمراأة البحرينية يف لفتة كرمية تعترب وساما تفتخر به كل امراأة<br />
بحرينية، موؤكداً اإميان رشكة األبا الكامل باأهمية البيئة وتاأثريها على<br />
حياة الفرد واجلماعة موضحاً الدور الذي قامت به الرشكة خللق وعي<br />
بيئي مستنري واأهمها مسابقة األبا للتصوير الفوتوغرايف ومسابقة األبا<br />
للرسم البيئي، مشرياً اإىل اأهمية الدور الذي تقوم به صاحبة السمو من<br />
خالل اهتمامها احلثيث بكل ما يختص بحماية البيئة الزراعية وتوسيع<br />
الرقعة اخلرضاء فى مملكة البحرين وقد اأعلن السيد الكوهجى يف نهاية<br />
كلمته تسمية الواحة باسم صاحبة السمو الشيخة سبيكة بنت اإبراهيم اآل<br />
خليفة عرفانا ملا تقوم به سموها من جهود يف جمال حماية البيئة.<br />
ثم تفضلت صاحبة السمو باإلقاء كلمة ثمنت فيها جهود رشكة اأملنيوم<br />
البحرين )األبا( يف جمال التشجري والهتمام بالبيئة بشكل عام موؤكدة<br />
سموها اأهمية تعميم التجارب الزراعية الناجحة يف اأنحاء اململكة واأكدت<br />
على اأهمية املحافظة على الأشجار الأصلية للبحرين داعية جميع اجلهات<br />
ذات الصلة اإىل احلد من زراعة اأشجار "الكاناكاربس" ملا لها من اآثار<br />
ضارة بالبيئة كما ورد يف اإحدى الدراسات البيئية التي قامت بها جامعة<br />
اخلليج العربي موؤخراً، ودعت سموها اإىل الإكثار من الأشجار البحرينية<br />
املثمرة.<br />
وفى ختام الكلمة دعت سموها اإىل الهتمام بتمكني املراأة البحرينية<br />
املتميزة، مهنئة يف الوقت ذاته العامالت يف الرشكة لتميزهن واإثبات<br />
كفاءتهن يف هذا املجال، متمنية سموها التوسع يف اإنشاء املزيد من<br />
احلدائق العامة لتلبي حاجات املواطنني وتزيد من الرقعة اخلرضاء<br />
باململكة.<br />
ثم تفضلت صاحبة السمو مبشاهدة معرض الصور اخلاص بالواحة<br />
واأهم النباتات املوجودة بها كما ترشفت موظفات الرشكة بالسالم على<br />
صاحبة السمو.<br />
بعد ذلك قدم السيد حممود الكوهجى رئيس جملس اإدارة الرشكة هدية<br />
تذكارية لصاحبة السمو، كما قدم السيد اأحمد صالح النعيمى الرئيس<br />
التنفيذي للرشكة هدية تذكارية لسمو الشيخ عبد اهلل بن حمد اآل خليفة<br />
حمافظ اجلنوبية مبناسبة هذه الزيارة الكرمية.<br />
بعدها توجهت صاحبة السمو لإزاحة الستار عن النصب التذكاري اخلاص<br />
بهذه املناسبة، اأعقبتها صورة تذكارية مع مسئويل الرشكة وعضوات<br />
جلنة معرض البحرين للحدائق.<br />
ثم تفضلت صاحبة السمو باأخذ جولة يف حديقة اخلرضاوات اخلاصة<br />
بالواحة مصحوبة برشح من السيدة سونيا غريب رئيسة البيئة والصحة<br />
املهنية بالرشكة.<br />
وقد اأشادت صاحبة السمو اأثناء الزيارة مبستوى واحة األبا ونوعية<br />
النباتات املوجودة فيها، مثمنة سموها تلك اخلطوة من قبل القائمني<br />
على رشكة اأملنيوم البحرين والتي تعكس اهتمامهم بتنمية وحماية<br />
البيئة باململكة، ودعت سموها جميع اجلهات احلكومية واخلاصة للعمل<br />
على رفع الوعي البيئي واحلرص على زديادة الرقعة اخلرضاء يف مملكة<br />
البحرين واأهمية املحافظة عليها وتطويرها من حيث استحداث اأساليب<br />

She stressed on the importance of implementing<br />
successful gardening projects around the Kingdom<br />
and retaining the original trees of <strong>Bahrain</strong>.<br />
She instructed all concerned bodies to stop planting<br />
the Canacarpus for its negative impact on the<br />
environment - according to an environmental study<br />
conducted recently by Arabian Gulf University - and<br />
called for planting more <strong>Bahrain</strong>i trees.<br />
She praised Alba's commitment to improving and<br />
protecting the environment and for the backing it<br />
has given to a project of such magnitude. She also<br />
called for all public and private sector organisations<br />
to enhance environmental awareness, increase<br />
greenery, develop new methods for irrigation,<br />
plant different kinds of trees and benefit from other<br />
countries' experience in this regard.<br />
She visited the Oasis photo exhibition that showcased<br />
the main trees and flowers that one can see in the<br />
garden.<br />
Mr Al Kooheji presented a gift to Her Highness<br />
Shaikha Sabeeka and later the Alba Chief Executive,<br />
Ahmed Saleh Al Noaimi, presented another gift to<br />
His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa to<br />
mark this momentous event.<br />
Later, she unveiled the plaque that was made to<br />
mark the occasion, and a group photo was taken<br />
with company officials and members of the <strong>Bahrain</strong><br />
Garden Show Committee.<br />
She also went on a tour of the Oasis and was<br />
accompanied by the Superintendent Environment<br />
and Industrial Hygiene, Sonya Ghareeb,<br />
The Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka Oasis was<br />
established in 2005, and is considered one of the<br />
premier environmental projects that have been set<br />
up to increase greenery. Located on the south side<br />
of the smelter and covering a total of 9,000 square<br />
meters, the Oasis is divided into three parts: the water<br />
area with numerous marine life, the Oasis area with<br />
different kinds of plants and trees, including palm<br />
trees, cactus, and other local kinds of trees, and the<br />
Alba garden, which includes numerous varieties of<br />
local fruits and vegetables.<br />
The visit came amid preparations for the Sixth<br />
<strong>Bahrain</strong> International Garden Show that Alba has<br />
co-sponsored. Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka is<br />
the patron and honorary president of the organising<br />
committee of this three-day event that opens on 17th<br />
April.<br />
The objective of this event is to protect the environment,<br />
utilise appropriate areas for planting trees, and work<br />
towards developing a cleaner and more pollution-free<br />
environment. Over the years, the event has gained in<br />
stature and scope and succeeded in becoming one<br />
of the most specialised exhibitions in the entire GCC<br />
region.

وتاأتى هذه الزيارة متاشيا مع توجهات صاحبة السمو الشيخة سبيكة بنت<br />
اإبراهيم اآل خليفة الرئيسة الفخرية للجنة املنظمة ملعرض البحرين الدويل<br />
للحدائق الذي تطور موؤخراً وبشكل لفت استطاع اأن يكون اأحد املعارض<br />
الدولية املتخصصة يف اخلليج العربي واأهدافه الرامية اإىل رضورة<br />
الهتمام بالبيئة واملحافظة عليها واستغالل املناطق املالئمة للزراعة<br />
باململكة وذلك ملا له من اأثر بالغ يف حياة الفرد واملجتمع وحماية حلق<br />
الفرد يف التمتع ببيئة نظيفة خالية من التلوث.<br />
اجلدير بالذكر اأن رشكة اأملنيوم البحرين )البا( تاأسست عام 1968 وتعترب<br />
اأحد روافد القتصاد الوطني يف مملكة البحرين وتويل الرشكة اهتماما<br />
بالغاً بقطاع البيئة وقد حصلت الرشكة على عدة جوائز يف هذا املجال<br />
اأهمها جائزة الألفية الصناعية لإجنازات البيئة الدولية من الأمانة العامة<br />
لالأمم املتحدة وجائزة دول جملس التعاون اخلليجي لأفضل رشكة تلتزم<br />
باملعايري البيئية وجائزة جملس التعاون لأفضل برنامج بيئي توعوي.<br />
كما تشارك الرشكة فى معرض البحرين الدويل للحدائق الذي يقام سنويا<br />
حتت رعاية كرمية من صاحبة السمو الشيخة سبيكة بنت اإبراهيم اآل خليفة،<br />
وقد مت اإنشاء واحة األبا يف عام 2005 وتعترب من مشاريع حماية البيئة<br />
وزيادة الرقعة اخلرضاء يف الرشكة، وتقع يف املنطقة اجلنوبية للمصنع على<br />
مساحة 9000 مرت مربع وهي مقسمة اإىل ثالثة اأقسام: املنطقة البحرية<br />
وتقع يف مدخل الواحة من املنطقة الرشقية ومت اإنشاوؤها لالستفادة من<br />
املياه الناجتة عن عملية تربيد قوالب الأملنيوم من ضخها اإىل البحرية ومن<br />
ثم ضخها ثانية اإىل باقي الواحة لالستخدام فى الأغراض الزراعية، اأما<br />
منطقة الواحة فتعترب امتدادا للون الأخرض املنبسط على اأرض األبا وحتيط<br />
بها النخيل واأشجار الصبّار والكنار والعديد من اأشجار الظل، واأخرياً حديقة<br />
خرضاوات األبا التى حتوي العديد من اخلرضاوات والفواكه البحرينية.

The Alba Board of Directors examined steps taken<br />
by the company in the first quarter of 2009 to reduce<br />
costs and mitigate the adverse impact of the current<br />
economic crisis on Alba's overall operations and<br />
employees.<br />
The Board, at its quarterly meeting held on Wednesday,<br />
25 March 2009, also reviewed the executive report<br />
on the new financial plan as well as the reports by<br />
the human resources and auditing committees,<br />
production and safety records and environment<br />
protection programmes.<br />
They hailed the success of the first ever visit of Her<br />
Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the<br />
wife of His Majesty the King Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al<br />
Khalifa and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for<br />
Women to the Alba smelter and in inaugurating the<br />
newly named Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka Oasis.<br />
Chairman of Alba's Board of Directors, Mahmood<br />
Hashim Al Kooheji remarked that Her Highness<br />
Shaikha Sabeeka praised the pivotal role Alba plays<br />
in protecting the environment and also appreciated<br />
the prominent role of women in the company's<br />
operations.<br />
During the meeting, the Board further discussed<br />
the price fluctuation of aluminium in the international<br />
markets, how to deal with the changes in the coming<br />
months, reviewed the local and regional market<br />
demands as well as Alba's financial and marketing<br />
situation.<br />
They also reviewed the financial, economic and<br />
technical reports related to the different operations at<br />
the company.<br />
"The Board reviewed the ongoing progress of the<br />
plant operations development and cost reduction<br />
project, and also, reviewed remarks made by the<br />
Board Committee.<br />
"Their role is to supervise the study presently being<br />
conducted in preparion for the coming phase and<br />
ensure that it remains closely aligned with the<br />
Kingdom's new economic vision for 2030 that is<br />
launched by His Majesty the King Shaikh Hamad bin<br />
Isa Al Khalifa under the supervision of the Economic<br />
Development Board (EDB)," said Mr. Al Kooheji.<br />
Abdulaziz S. Al-Humaid was welcomed as a new<br />
member of Alba's Board of Directors and Mr. Al<br />
Kooheji said that the Board will greatly benefit from<br />
his experience and insight.<br />
Representing the <strong>Bahrain</strong> Mumtalakat Holding<br />
Company, in addition to the Chairman Mr. Al Kooheji,<br />
were Yusuf Abdulla Taqi, Shaikh Mohammed bin<br />
Khalifa Al Khalifa, Fawzi Ahmed Kanoo, Osama M. Al<br />
Arrayedh and David Meen, while representing SABIC<br />
Investments Company were Mutlaq H. Al Murished,<br />
Ibrahim S. Al Showeir and Humood Abdulla Al<br />
Towaijri and representing Breton Investments was<br />
Gert Rohrseitz.<br />
The meeting was also attended by the Alba Chief<br />
Executive Ahmed Saleh Al Noaimi, Alba Deputy<br />
Chief Executive Mahmood Al Daylami, and other high<br />
officials from the company.<br />

األبا، على التقرير الذي<br />
رفعته الإدارة التنفيذية<br />
حول اخلطة املالية اجلديدة<br />
للعام 2009 يف ظل الأزمة<br />
العاملية، واخلطوات التي<br />
اتخذتها الإدارة مبا يتوافق<br />
وخطة الرشكة يف تخفيض<br />
التكاليف، دون التاأثري على<br />
وضع الرشكة التشغيلي،<br />
واأوضاع العاملني وقد اأثنى<br />
املجلس على هذه اخلطوات.<br />
كما تدارس املجلس عدداً<br />
من املواضيع املهمة من<br />
بينها تقرير الربع الأول من العام احلايل عن عمليات الرشكة، وقد مت<br />
الستماع اإىل تقرير جلنتي املوارد البرشية والتدقيق، والطالع على<br />
سري الإنتاج وسجل السالمة، وبرامج حماية البيئة يف املصنع، واأثنى<br />
املجلس على جناح الزيارة امليمونة التي تفضلت بها صاحبة السمو<br />
الشيخة سبيكة بنت اإبراهيم اآل خليفة قرينة جاللة امللك للرشكة،<br />
والتي ثمنت فيها سموها الدور البارز لربامج حماية البيئة بالرشكة.<br />
جاء ذلك يف ترصيح للسيد حممود هاشم الكوهجي رئيس جملس<br />
الإدارة عقب اجتماع جملس اإدارة الرشكة الذي عقد مبقر الرشكة.<br />
حيث اأشار رئيس جملس الإدارة يف حديثه اإىل زيارة صاحبة السمو<br />
الشيخة سبيكة بنت اإبراهيم اآل خليفة للرشكة قائالً: يتزامن اجتماع<br />
جملس الإدارة بعد اأيام قلية من الزيارة امليمونة التي تفضلت بها<br />
صاحبة السمو قرينة جاللة امللك اإىل الرشكة، ولقائها برئيس واأعضاء<br />
جملس الإدارة والهيئة التنفيذية واملسئولني يف الرشكة، واإشادتها<br />
مبشاركة املراأة جنباً اإىل جنب مع الرجل يف املصنع.<br />
كذلك مت خالل الجتماع مراجعة املجلس كافة املواضيع املدرجة<br />
على جدول اأعماله، والتي تضمنت استعراض الوضع القتصادي<br />
بشكل عام وتاأثريه على اأسعار الأملنيوم يف الأسواق العاملية، وكيف<br />
ميكن التعامل مع متغريات الوضع يف املرحلة القادمة، وتلبية حاجة<br />
السوق املحلية واخلليجية، كذلك مت الطالع على الوضع املايل<br />
والتسويقي للرشكة ومراجعة التقارير املالية والتجارية والفنية<br />
املتعلقة مبختلف العمليات يف الرشكة.<br />
واأضاف رئيس جملس الإدارة: ( كما اإضطلع املجلس على سري العمل<br />
يف مرشوع دراسة تطوير عمليات املصنع وخفض النفقات الذي<br />
تقوم به رشكة ماكنزي و استمع اإىل مالحظات اللجنة املنبثقة<br />
من جملس الدارة لالإرشاف على هذه الدراسة للمرحلة القادمة مبا<br />
يتالئم والروؤية القتصادية اجلديدة ململكة البحرين حتى العام<br />
2030، والتي دشنها جاللة امللك حمد بن عيسى اآل خليفة عاهل<br />
البالد، وحتت اإرشاف جملس التنمية القتصادية (. وقد ابدى املجلس<br />
اإرتياحه لسري مرشوع الدراسة.<br />
وقد اأعرب السيد حممود هاشم الكوهجي عن بالغ شكره وامتنانه لدعم<br />
حكومة مملكة البحرين، وعلى راأسها حرضة صاحب اجلاللة امللك حمد<br />
بن عيسى اآل خليفة عاهل البالد املفدى، وصاحب السمو الشيخ خليفة<br />
بن سلمان اآل خليفة رئيس الوزراء املوقر، وصاحب السمو الشيخ<br />
سلمان بن حمد اآل خليفة ويل العهد نائب القائد الأعلى لقوة دفاع<br />
البحرين. كما اأعرب السيد الكوهجي عن اأمتنانه للدعم املتواصل من<br />
حكومة خادم احلرمني الرشيفني جاللة امللك عبداهلل بن عبد العزيز<br />
اآل سعود. كما قدم رئيس جملس الإدارة شكره لكل من رشكة ممتلكات<br />
البحرين القابضة ورشكة سابك وجميع ممثليها على دعمهم الدائم<br />
للرشكة. وقال اأنه يغتنم هذه الفرصة لتقدمي الشكر اىل جميع العاملني<br />

السعودية عضواً جديد يف جملس الإدارة ومتنوا له التوفيق يف مهام<br />
عمله اجلديد، كما مت توجيه الشكر والتقدير للسيد اإبراهيم بن سعد<br />
الشويعر ممثل رشكة سابك السابق لأنتهاء فرتة عضويته يف جملس<br />

The Alba Community Service Committee has been highly praised by<br />
Her Excellency the Minister of Social Development Dr. Fatima bint<br />
Mohammed Al Baluchi.<br />
"It gives me great pleasure to be with you during this ceremony to honour<br />
the volunteers from one of <strong>Bahrain</strong>'s major industrial companies that<br />
contributes substantially to the national economy, and also ranks as<br />
one of the leading companies that support voluntary work," remarked<br />
Dr. Al Baluchi who further added that it was a matter of great pride<br />
that <strong>Bahrain</strong>i society is blessed with individual volunteers from every<br />
possible groups and organisations, who participate in every activity.<br />
"What Alba's volunteers are doing is a testimony to this great<br />
philanthropic initiative. As instructed in the Holy Qura'n and by the<br />
Prophet's Sunnah, our religion teaches us that voluntary work is<br />
one of life's noblest activities. Organisations, whether charitable<br />
societies, companies or businesses, have their own 'corporate social<br />
responsibility,' whereby they are able to place the might of their financial<br />
and human resources in the service of their community. And apart from<br />
Alba, <strong>Bahrain</strong> has a number of leading organisations that are active in<br />
voluntary services," said Dr. Al Baluchi.<br />
Alba hosted the ceremony to recognise and honour its volunteers in<br />
serving the community on the World Volunteers Day, which was held under the patronage of Her Excellency<br />
the Minister of Social Development, and was attended by members of Alba's executive management and<br />
staff, in addition to senior officials from the Ministry of Social Development.<br />
"Out of its corporate social responsibility, Alba has left its footprints on many of its monthly activities throughout<br />
the year," said Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji, in his speech during the<br />
celebration. "Thanks to its volunteers and their families, it has succeeded in carrying out a number of voluntary<br />
projects in different areas, including environment, saving resources, aid for the blind and the disabled, and in<br />

اأشادت الدكتورة فاطمة بنت حممد البلوشي وزيرة التنمية الجتماعية<br />
مبا تقدمه جلنة خدمة املجتمع يف رشكة األبا، وقالت: يرسين اأن اأعرب<br />
عن سعادتي بالتواجد يف احتفالية تكرمي متطوعي اآلبا يف هذا الرصح<br />
الصناعي الذي ل ميثل اأحد اأعمدة القتصاد الوطني فحسب واإمنا يعد<br />
من اأكرب داعمي التطوع يف مملكة البحرين، ولنا اأن نفخر باأن املجتمع<br />
البحريني زاخر بالتطوع واملتطوعني سواء من الأفراد اأو اجلماعات اأو<br />
املوؤسسات والتجارب حولنا وما يقوم به متطوعي األبا لهو خري شاهد<br />
على ذلك.<br />
واأضافت الدكتورة البلوشي: لقد علمنا ديننا احلنيف اأن العمل التطوعي<br />
هو من اأنبل واأسمى الأعمال بجانب ما له من فضائل كثرية ومتعددة<br />
ولذلك جاء احلث عليه يف الكتاب والسنة، ومن خالل املوؤسسات سواء<br />
موؤسسات خريية اأو رشكات اأو موؤسسات اأعمال وعرب براجمها يف ما<br />
يطلق عليه »املسئولية الجتماعيه للرشكات« فاإنها تضع مصادرها<br />
املالية والبرشيه يف خدمة املجتمع الذي تتواجد فيه، واإذا نظرنا اإىل<br />
املوؤسسات فسوف جند اأن هناك عدد من املوؤسسات الوطنية الرائدة<br />
يف تنشيط العمل التطوعي على راأسها رشكه اآلبا وغريها من الرشكات<br />
الوطنية الرائدة.<br />
وكانت رشكة األبا، قد اأقامت احتفال خاص بتكرمي متطوعي األبا خلدمة<br />
املجتمع حتت رعاية وزيرة التنمية الجتماعية فاطمة البلوشي ورئيس<br />
جملس الإدارة حممود هاشم الكوهجي، مبناسبة اليوم العاملي للتطوع،<br />
حرضه اأعضاء الهيئة الإدارية بالرشكة، وجملس نقابة األبا وعدد من<br />
املسئولني يف وزارة التنمية الجتماعية.<br />
ويف كلمته خالل احلفل اأشار رئيس جملس اإدارة رشكة األبا السيد<br />
حممود هاشم الكوهجي قائالً: اإن رشكة األبا ومن منطلق مسئوليتها<br />

lost it even from their loved ones.<br />
"We at Alba have every right to be proud that we<br />
have such volunteers who work silently for the sake of<br />
others, not waiting for recognition or reward, but find<br />
voluntary work itself rewarding. They have turned their<br />
Community Service Committee into an example for<br />
other private and public organisations and societies to<br />
follow. Therefore, we are committed, as Alba Board of<br />
Directors and Executive management, to extend our<br />
support and encouragement to them to continue with<br />
their noble work, which is bearing fruit today and on<br />
this occasion I would like to say 'thank you' for their<br />
commendable efforts," he explained.<br />
The Alba Chief Executive, Ahmed Saleh Al Noaimi,<br />
also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to<br />
everyone who has selflessly sacrificed his or her time<br />
in helping those who need it most.<br />
Mr. Al Noaimi said: "We have seen a remarkable<br />
change over the past year in the Company's corporate<br />
social responsibility and in allocating the donations<br />
budget through official and social channels to serve<br />
the largest number of people.<br />
What we are doing through the Community Service<br />
Committee is only an extension of the Chairman's<br />
guidance and instruction. On this occasion, we<br />
would like to stress that those efforts by our brothers<br />
and sisters in the Committee will continue year after<br />
year."<br />
On the other hand, the Chairman of Alba Community<br />
Service Committee and Metal Production General<br />
Manager, Mohammed Mahmood, highlighted the<br />
objective behind the Committee's services.<br />
He said: "These services instill the spirit of voluntary<br />
work in the hearts and minds of the employees. Alba's<br />
vision is based on supporting the national economy.<br />
Being an active member of the society through its<br />
voluntary work, the company carries out this task<br />
on a monthly basis. Alba employees' voluntary work<br />
is inspired by their personal belief in what they do,<br />
without expecting any reward in return. They have<br />
the support of the executive management to increase<br />
voluntary work among employees by 52%, enhance<br />
positive thinking by 40% and improve living standards<br />
by 8%."<br />
Karima Al Hamad, a member of the Community<br />
Service Committee, gave a presentation highlighting<br />
the most important activities conducted by the<br />
Committee in 2008 and the most evident results that<br />
the Committee experienced on different levels.<br />
At the end of the ceremony, Her Excellency Dr.<br />
Al Balooshi, Mr. Al Kooheji, Mr. Al Noaimi, Shaikh<br />
Duaij Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of the <strong>Bahrain</strong><br />
Handicapped Sports Federation and Chairman of the<br />
committee, honoured the volunteers.<br />
At the same time, the Chairman Mr. Al Kooheji<br />
presented Her Excellency Dr. Al Balooshi with a gift<br />
from Alba; and later, he received a special gift from<br />
the Chief Executive for his tireless support of the work<br />
of the Committee.<br />

واأضاف الكوهجي: اأننا يف رشكة األبا فخورين باأن لدينا مثل هذه<br />
الطاقات من املتطوعني الذين يعملون بصمت من اأجل الآخرين، ل<br />
ينتظرون الشكر من اأحد اأو املكافئة من املخلوق واإمنا الأجر والثواب<br />
من اهلل عزوجل لإميانهم الصادق مبا يقومون به حتى جعلوا من جلنتهم<br />
جلنة خدمة املجتمع مثال يحتدى به بني املوؤسسات واجلمعيات الأهلية<br />
والرسمية يف اململكة، واأصبح لزاماً علينا يف جملس اإدارة الرشكة<br />
والإدارة التنفيذية مساندتهم اأكرث وبقوة ملواصلة هذه املسرية اخلرية<br />
التي نرى ثمارها اليوم، يف هذه املناسبة العزيزة على قلوبنا جميعاً،<br />
لنقول للجميع شكراً لكم على جهودكم اخلرية، واإىل الأمام دائماً.<br />
من جانبه استعرض الرئيس التنفيذي السيد اأحمد صالح النعيمي يف<br />
كلمته جانب اآخر سلط الضوء فيه على توجيه الشكر والتقدير لكل من<br />
اأعطى وقدم وضحى الكثري من وقته من غري مقابل لإسعاد من هم يف<br />
اأمس احلاجة للمساعدة.<br />
واأضاف النعيمي: لقد راأينا تغيرياً جذرياً خالل العام املاضي يف<br />
برنامج مسئولية الرشاكة الجتماعية التي تنتهجها األبا، وتوزيع<br />
ميزانية الهبات من خالل قنوات رسمية واجتماعية لتطال اأكرب رشيحة<br />
يف املجتمع بطريقة منظمة، واإن ما نقوم به من خالل جلنة خدمة<br />
املجتمع ما هو اإل اإمتداداأ لسياسة وتوجيهات جملس الإدارة، ونوؤكد<br />
على اأن العطاء من اأخواننا واأخواتنا يف خدمة املجتمع سيزداد عاماً<br />
بعد عام.<br />
بدوره استعرض رئيس جلنة األبا خلدمة املجتمع مدير عام الإنتاج السيد<br />
حممد حممود يف كلمته الهدف من خدمات اللجنة فقال: اإنها تنمى روح<br />
التطوع لدى املوظفني يف الرشكة، واأن روؤية األبا موجودة على اأساس تعزيز<br />
القتصاد البحريني الذي يخدم املجتمع من خالل اأن تكون عضواً فعالً<br />
يف املجتمع مع متطوعي )األبا( من خالل الفعاليات والأنشطة املختلفة<br />
التى تقوم بها الرشكة شهرياً، ويقوم بها موظفيها بقناعتهم الشخصية<br />
واإميانهم بالعمل الذي يقومون به، دون مقابل، وبدعم من الإدارة التنفيذية<br />
من اأجل تعزيز التطوع لدى موظفيها بنسبة %52 وكذلك تعزيز التفكري<br />
اليجابي بنسبة %40 و رفع املستوى املعيشي بنسبة %8، وهي من<br />
الأمور احلضارية التي تفتخر رشكة األبا باأنها موجودة بني منتسبيها.<br />
كما قدمت كرمية احلمد عضو اللجنة اأمام احلضور يف عرض اإليكرتوين<br />
مصور اأبرز الفعاليات التي قامت بها اللجنة على مدى العام املاضي،<br />
واأبرز النتائج التي حققتها اللجنة على خمتلف الأصعدة.<br />
بعد ذلك قامت الوزيرة البلوشي ورئيس جملس الإدارة الكوهجي والرئيس<br />
التنفيذي النعيمي، والشيخ دعيج بن خليفة اآل خليفة رئيس الحتاد<br />
البحريني لرياضة املعاقيني ورئيس اللجنة بتكرمي املتطوعني، كما<br />

Alba second smelter wins FM Global Award in<br />
the international risk management award<br />
Risk Management engineer at the Factory Mutual Insurance Company (FM Global), Ian Pathania, hailed Alba's<br />
latest achievement upon winning the FM Global Award after having met their standards of protection from<br />
risks. The award recognises Alba's outstanding new world record over the past four years in terms of risk<br />
management, which makes it the second plant in the world to have received this award.<br />
"This is the second time in 15 years that this award is presented to an insured industry," said Pathania. "The<br />
Alba Calciner team made huge efforts to have this achievement in a record time, which proves the ability of Alba<br />
management and employees to handle risks as per modern standards of international insurance documents."<br />
"Once again, Alba proves to the world that it is one of the most outstanding smelters in terms of production<br />
and achievements one after the other, as well as insurance and risk management, which enabled it to achieve<br />
international levels of protection against risks," said the Alba Carbon and Calciner General Manager, Hameed<br />
Abbas.<br />

رشكة األبا، باحلصول على جائزة التاأمني العاملية التي متنحها الرشكة يف لندن اإىل زبائنها املوؤمن عليهم والذين يجتازون معايري<br />
احلماية من املخاطر، من خالل حتقيق اإجناز متميز على مدى السنوات الأربع املاضية مما يعد رقماً قياسياً عاملياً جديد، لتكون األبا<br />
ثاين مصنع يف العامل ينال هذه اجلائزة.<br />

Engineer Banefsha Ebrahim<br />
Women at Alba prove their efficiency<br />
There are more than 80 women working in different departments and various positions at Alba, and they<br />
have each proved their ability to work hand in hand with men. Women at Alba play a vital role whether in<br />
the office or at the plant, and they are committed to take part in social activities and<br />
voluntary work.<br />
The Engineer Banefsha Ebrahim, one of the female employees at Alba, joined<br />
the company few years ago in the engineering department.<br />
Following her graduation from secondary school – science with distinction,<br />
she wanted to study in specialise in science. Therefore, she applied for<br />
medicine and engineering colleges and was accepted in both colleges.<br />
However, when she was granted a scholarship from the Ministry of<br />
Education, she chose civil engineering. She acquired associate diploma<br />
in engineering, followed by BSc in civil engineering in 1999. She worked<br />
in a number of private companies before joining Alba in 2001.<br />
“When I joined Alba, Eng. Huma Aseeri was working in Project<br />
department. I did not have the opportunity to work with her, but her<br />
participation in building Line 5 as a project manager has proved that<br />
there is no difference between a man and a woman in the working<br />
environment, and this is what I have found for myself over the past few<br />
years at Alba,” she said.<br />
The woman dedicates her time and effort to work, and she is<br />
capable of reaching the required objectives, with the support of<br />
the executive management members.<br />
It is worth noting that Eng. Banefsha is a volunteer in Injaz<br />
<strong>Bahrain</strong>, a member of <strong>Bahrain</strong> Society of Engineers, a<br />
volunteer of Alba Community Service Committee, as<br />
well as an active participant in the summer courses<br />
organised by <strong>Bahrain</strong> Young Ladies Association<br />
when she was in secondary school.<br />

المرأة في ألبا أثبتت جدارتها بقوة<br />
يعمل يف رشكة األبا اأكرث من 80 امراأة يف خمتلف الدوائر والأقسام، ويتقلدن مناصب خمتلفة<br />
اأثبتت فيها املراأة قدرتها على العمل جنباً اإىل جنب مع الرجل فيما يسند اإليها من<br />
مهام وظيفية سواء خلف املكتب اأو داخل املصنع، كما اإنها حترص على املشاركة<br />
الجتماعية، والعمل التطوعي بعد انتهاء الدوام الرسمي.<br />
وتعترب املهندسة بنفشه اإبراهيم من دائرة الهندسة يف رشكة األبا من الوجوه<br />
النسائية التي خطت مشوار حياتها العملي يف الرشكة منذ عدة سنوات يف<br />
دائرة الهندسة.<br />
بعد تخرجها من املدرسة الثانوية املسار العلمي يف اأول دفعة نظام<br />
املقررات بتقدير ممتاز، كانت راغبة يف دراسة اأحد التخصصات العلمية<br />
فقدمت يف كليتي الطب والهندسة وقبلت يف كلتيهما، اإل اأنها حصلت على<br />
بعثة من وزارة الرتبية والتعليم لدراسة الهندسة فاختارت الهندسة املدنية،<br />
وحصلت اأولً على دبلوم مشارك يف الهندسة ثم شهادة البكالوريوس يف<br />
الهندسة املدنية عام 1999، ثم عملت بعد ذلك يف بعض الرشكات<br />
اخلاصة يف جمال الهندسة قبل التحاقها مبارشة برشكة األبا يف عام<br />
.2001<br />

وجهدها يف العمل وميكن العتماد عليها<br />
للوصول اإىل الأهداف املرجوة، بفضل<br />

Alba stand attracts student<br />
interest at UOB Careers Day<br />
The Alba stand at the recently held University of<br />
<strong>Bahrain</strong> (UOB) Careers Day generated massive<br />
student interest and received praise from high officials<br />
at UOB.<br />
"Ever since its inception ten years ago, Alba has<br />
been one of the most active supporters of the annual<br />
Careers Day and has also consistently provided<br />
support to different activities conducted at UOB such<br />
as, workshops, seminars and training programmes<br />
as well as introduced students to some of the state<br />
of the art facilities at the company," remarked UOB<br />
President Dr. Ebrahim Mohammed Janahi.<br />
"Alba is one of the leading companies in attracting a<br />
large number of students from different specialisations<br />
for training, employment opportunities and site visits.<br />
It also offers engineering scholarships that have<br />
benefited many of our students," he said.<br />
Dr. Janahi made this statement during his visit to the<br />
Alba stand at the three-day annual event that sees the<br />
participation of a number of organisations, companies,<br />
institution, government bodies, and societies.<br />
The Alba HR and OD Manager, Shaikh Bader bin Rashid<br />
Al Khalifa, emphasised that Alba offers necessary<br />
guidance to students, graduates, and job seekers and<br />
introduces them to the labour market requirements<br />
and its most in-demand specialisations.<br />
"Alba is one of the major industrial companies in<br />
<strong>Bahrain</strong> that attracts all kinds of academic fields,<br />
including administration, accounting, and IT and<br />
vocational, including electrical and mechanical<br />
engineering. Alba also has many job opportunities that<br />
are continuously along with the on-going expansions<br />
and developmental projects," said Shaikh Bader Al<br />
Khalifa.<br />
Alba has won a number of awards in training and<br />
development, including the GCC Excellence Award<br />
in creating job opportunities and nationalisation that<br />

قال رئيس جامعة البحرين الدكتور اإبراهيم حممد جناحي اإن رشكة<br />
اأملنيوم البحرين )األبا( تعترب من الرشكات واجلهات التي تاأتي<br />
على راأس قائمة الداعمني لفعالية )يوم املهن( الذي تقيمه اجلامعة<br />
سنوياً، فرشكة )األبا( – بحسب رئيس اجلامعة – رافقت فعالية )يوم<br />
املهن( منذ انطالقته قبل عرش سنوات، وبقيت هذه الرشكة العمالقة<br />
تقدم جميع اأشكال الدعم جلامعة البحرين والكثري من فعاليتها<br />
املختلفة والبالغة الأهمية.<br />
واأضاف رئيس جامعة البحرين اإن رشكة )األبا( مل تتاأخر يوماً عن<br />
مد اجلامعة مبا تطلبه منها، كالورش التدريبية، والقيام بتعريف<br />
الطلبة مبرافق املصنع والرشكة، والتدريب العملي، ف )األبا( من اأكرث<br />
الرشكات الصناعية التي تستقبل وتدرب عدداً كبرياً من الطلبة يف<br />

ويقول د. جناحي »اأحرص يف زيارتي ملعرض »يوم املهن« اأن اأقف<br />
عند بعض الأجنحة املهمة، ومن بينها جناح »األبا«، ويكون سوؤايل<br />
عادة: كيف هم خريجونا العاملون يف الرشكة؟ ويكون الرد مثلجاً<br />
للصدر، ودافعاً للمزيد من الطماأنينة على سالمة مناهجنا وقوتها<br />
عندما ياأتي الرد من قبل الرشكات الرائدة ليوؤكد ما يتيمز به خريج<br />
جامعة البحرين من متكن واقتدار«.<br />
واأشار اإىل اأن هذا اخلريج ليس صنيعة اجلامعة وحدها، بل للرشكات<br />
الكربى – مثل »األبا« – اإسهامات مهمة يف اإضفاء الكثري اإىل<br />
شخصية الطالب عرب هذه الرشاكة املستمرة والتي تضيف لبنات<br />
جديدة يف كل مرة اإىل رصح التعاون بني القطاع اخلاص واجلامعة<br />

من جانبه اأكد مدير دائرة املوارد البرشية والتطوير الإداري الشيخ<br />
بدر بن راشد اآل خليفة اأن رشكة األبا، تقدم املشورة جلميع الطلبة<br />
واخلريجيني والباحثني عن عمل، وتعرفهم مبتطلبات سوق العمل<br />
وحترص على توجيههم لدراسة التخصصات التي من ساأنها اأن<br />
تاأمن لهم املستقبل الوظيفي الذي يطمحون له.<br />

قام وفد فيتنامي عايل املستوى بزيارة لرشكة األبا، حيث ناقش الوفد الزائر العالقات البحرينية الفيتنامية وبحث طرق تعزيز العالقة بني مصنع<br />

تراأس الوفد الفيتنامي نائب املدير العام لإدارة الصناعات الثقيلة بوزارة الصناعة والتجارة، الدكتور فونغ ها، وكان يف استقباله كل من السيد<br />
اأحمد صالح النعيمي، الرئيس التنفيذي، والسيد حممود الديلمي، نائب الرئيس التنفيذي لرشكة األبا، حيث قام الوفد بالطالع على عملية اإنتاج<br />
الأملنيوم والقيام بجولة يف خمتلف اأرجاء املصهر.<br />

Alba Laboratory records the highest<br />
quality performance in the world<br />
Out of 31 other smelters in the world, the Alba<br />
Laboratory achieved the highest quality performance<br />
among the world's calcined coke producers and<br />
consumers in terms of the quality of its analysis,<br />
which comes as part of the quality management<br />
program organised by the World Swiss R&D Carbon<br />
Laboratory.<br />
Alba's new achievement is a result of its commitment<br />
to international standards and regulations for quality<br />
management of calcined coke. Alba has its own<br />
calciner plant that meets the smelter's requirements<br />
and exports to other aluminium producers in the<br />
world. The fact that some of these producers were<br />
also competing in this programme actually enhances<br />
Alba's international reputation in maintaining the<br />
highest quality standards and applying international<br />
standards and specifications in its analysis.<br />
"Acquiring this top rank among the world's aluminium<br />
producers proves the high quality of Alba products<br />
and their high demand in the international market,"<br />
said Avinash Mittal, the Alba Laboratory Manager.<br />
"It also proves that Alba's lab contributes to<br />
improving the quality of our products, which goes<br />
in line with the regulations of international quality<br />
certificate ISO 9002 that was accredited to Alba<br />
a few years ago."<br />
Furthermore, Laboratory Superintendent, Dr. Loai<br />
Abdul Amir Al Jamri said, "Alba lab employees have<br />
the practical experience, supported by academic<br />
knowledge, in analysing the raw materials used in<br />
aluminium smelting process, including calcined coke,<br />
which requires high level of accuracy in order to<br />
determine high quality products and - consequently<br />
- determine the aluminium price in the market. We<br />
apply these standards at Alba, and verifying them<br />
through this assessment proves our outstanding<br />
position among the world's best."<br />
As part of Alba's efforts in improving its quality<br />
performance and its customers' confidence, Alba lab<br />
participated in this program in which the organisers<br />
distributed samples of a material with a certain quality<br />
to all participants. The participants role was to examine<br />
and analyse the sample against international quality<br />
standards, which will be given back to the organiser<br />
for evaluation of the participant's quality standards.<br />
Alba acquired the quality certificate ISO 9002 few<br />
years ago and its products reached the highest purity<br />
rates of more than 99.98%.<br />

وقال مدير املخترب اآفينشا ميتيل: اأن فوز رشكة األبا بهذه املرتبة<br />
املتقدمة بني خمتربات مصنعي الأملنيوم دليل جودة منتجاتها<br />
التي باتت اليوم مطلوبة يف جميع اأسواق العامل، والسعي الدائم<br />

من اخلربة العملية املدعمة اأكادميياً بطرق حتليل املواد اخلام<br />
املستخدمة يف صناعة الأملنيوم ومنها مادة الفحم البرتويل<br />
املكلسن والتي تتطلب صناعتها وحتليل جودتها دقة عالية<br />
للحصول على حتاليل دقيقة جلودة املنتج والذي يوؤثر بشكل<br />
مبارش على سعر املادة يف السوق، وهذه املعايري هي املعتمدة<br />
يف خمترب األبا الذي تعزز مع هذا التقييم لأداء اجلودة والذي اأظهر<br />
متيزاً بني اأبرز خمتربات مصانع صناعة الأملنيوم يف العامل.<br />
وكوسيلة لتقييم اأداء اجلودة وتعزيز ثقة الزبون يف جودة املنتج،<br />
قام املخترب باملشاركة يف هذه الربنامج، حيث تقوم اجلهة املنظمة<br />
بتوزيع عينات ملادة ذات جودة معينة للمختربات املشاركة ليتم<br />
فحصها وحتليلها بكل املقاييس العاملية للجودة، ومن بعد ذلك<br />
تقوم اجلهة املنظمة بتجميع النتائج املختربية من كل املختربات<br />
ويتم معاجلتها احصائيا ويتم حتديد معايري القبول والرفض لإي<br />
معيار من معايري اجلودة.<br />
اجلدير بالذكر اأن رشكة األبا حصلت على شهادة ISO 9002<br />
للجودة قبل سنوات، ومنتجاتها من الأملنيوم تبلغ نسبة النقاوة<br />
فيها اأكرث من %99.98، وهي نسبة عالية جداً يف جمال صناعة<br />

Her Excellency the Minister of Social Development Dr.<br />
Fatima bint Mohammed Al Baluchi, and Chairman of the<br />
Alba Board of Directors, Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji,<br />
presented Alba's financial awards to societies that<br />
support local community organisations during a special<br />
ceremony held for this occasion. The awards were<br />
presented to 19 different organisations that provided<br />
developmental ideas with specific targets, long and<br />
short term goals, and benefits for the local community.<br />
The winners were decided by an evaluation committee,<br />
taking into account the fact that these organisations<br />
are vital partners in the Kingdom's development on all<br />
aspects, including social and economic aspects.<br />
"Alba is an important partner in economic<br />
development, which plays a pivotal role in supporting<br />
the local community through its contributions to<br />
social development programs, with the cooperation<br />
of relevant organisations in government and private<br />
sectors," said Mr. Al Kooheji. "This cooperation helps<br />
improve local societies, with the support of Ministry of<br />
Social Development that forms a special committee<br />
every year to study the proposed projects according to<br />
certain criteria and conditions, including the importance<br />
of these projects and their benefits for the society," he<br />
said.<br />
"Alba's corporate social responsibility has certain<br />
goals and objectives based on improving people's<br />
living standards and serving the Kingdom. The Ministry<br />
shares our goals and constantly searches for valuable<br />

environment friendly<br />
The Alba Power General Manager, Mahmood Asghar, announced that Alba has completed converting its<br />
power stations to become environmentally friendly, by retrofitting its gas turbines with new low Nitrogen Oxide<br />
(NOx) burners to reduce the produced NOx emissions to less than the required international standards with<br />
the cost of more than $ 66 million over the past years.<br />
"This project is one of the largest of its kind in Asia and the Middle East, following its implementation by a<br />
German company," said Mr. Asghar. "Alba had the initiative of implementing this project as part of its long term<br />
commitment towards the environment," he said.<br />
"This project was implemented in many phases over the past few months<br />
thanks to the efforts of Alba's engineers and technicians who worked on this<br />
project, with the cooperation of Alstom," he added.<br />
The engineers and technicians of Alba have proved their expertise in handling<br />
power stations, and they are certainly capable protecting the environment<br />
by reducing the emissions through programs of high quality and reduced<br />
costs, which complies with Alba's policy of maintaining a healthier and safer<br />
environment for its employees.<br />

رصح مدير عام الطاقة يف رشكة األبا، حممود اأصغر اأنه مت النتهاء من حتويل حمطات الطاقة الكهربائية يف الرشكة اإىل حمطات صديقة للبيئة،<br />
من خالل حتويل كل توربينات ذات النبعاثات الغازية اإىل نظام جديد اأقل انبعاثاً من املعدل املسموح به عاملياً، بتكلفة بلغت اأكرث من 66 مليون<br />
دولر، رصفت على مدى السنوات املاضية.<br />
واأضاف اأصغر: اإن هذا املرشوع الضخم يعترب الأول من نوعه يف الرشق الأوسط واآسيا، بعد اأن مت تنفيذه يف اإحدى الرشكات الأملانية، وقد نفذته<br />
األبا طواعية ضمن برناجمها طويل الأمد يف املحافظة على البيئة، واأن حسها الوطني هو ما جعلها تتبنى مثل هذه املشاريع الضخمة التي تعود<br />
بالنفع على اجلميع.<br />
واأشار مدير عام الطاقة: اإن فريق العمل املشرتك من املهندسني والفنيني يف رشكة األبا وبالتعاون مع رشكة األستوم مت تنفيذ هذا املرشوع على<br />
مراحل خالل الأشهر املاضية، حيث مت اإستبدال النظام القدمي لالحرتاق يف التوربينات بنظام جديد يخلط الغاز بالهواء قبل الحرتاق، مما يقلل<br />
درجة احلرارة، ويزيد الكفاءة بنسبة %2 والتوفري عن السابق.<br />
لقد اأثبت املهندسون والفنيني يف رشكة األبا باأنهم يتمتعون بالكفاءة العالية يف التعامل مع حمطات الطاقة، واأنهم قادرون على املساهمة يف<br />
تخفيض نسبة النبعاثات يف اجلو عرب برامج وخطط ذات جودة عالية وتكلفة اأقل، تتواكب مع توجهات الرشكة يف املحافظة على البيئة والسالمة<br />
يف العمل.<br />

Promotions in Alba Power and<br />
Casthouse<br />
Alba announced that two of its employees were promoted to managerial positions in Power Maintenance and<br />
Casthouse Maintenance departments, following their completion of an organisational development program<br />
that was implemented two years ago. This program allows employees to acquire necessary training according<br />
to a special academic and vocational programme.<br />
Adel Abbas Faraj, who joined the company in 1988, was promoted to Manager Casthouse Maintenance.<br />
He acquired High National Diploma (HND) in Mechatronic from University Abertay Dundee in Scotland and<br />
attended numerous training courses in <strong>Bahrain</strong> and abroad. He later moved up in management and supervisory<br />
jobs until he reached his current position.<br />
Ameen Mohammed Sultan was also promoted as Manager Power Maintenance. He joined the company in<br />
1997, and received his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of <strong>Bahrain</strong>. Mr. Sultan has<br />
been Acting Manager since 2006, and was promoted through an organisational development program, which<br />
he successfully completed last month.<br />
On this occasion, Alba Chief Executive, Ahmed Saleh Al Noaimi, congratulated the newly appointed managers,<br />
emphasising that Alba is proud to have such national competencies that deserve to take leadership and<br />
responsibility through Alba's organisational development program, of which many employees have benefited<br />
in different departments of the company.<br />

ألبا تعلن عن ترقية مديرين في دائرة<br />
الطاقة والمسبك<br />
مت موؤخراً يف رشكة األبا، الإعالن عن ترقية اثنني من املوظفني اإىل رتبة مدير يف كل من دائرة صيانة الطاقة، وصيانة املسبك بعد اأجتيازهما<br />
برنامج التطوير الإداري الذي اعتمدته الرشكة قبل عامني والذي يتيح للموظفني احلصول على التدريب وفق برنامج خاص اأكادميي وعملي من<br />
اأجل الرتقي.<br />
حيث رقي عادل عباس فرج اإىل درجة مدير صيانة دائرة املسبك، وكان قد التحق فرج بالعمل يف الرشكة عام 1988، وهو حاصل على شهادة<br />
الدبلوما الوطنية يف ميكاترونيك من جامعة اأيرتيه الأسكوتلندية، كما حرض العديد من دورات التدريب يف البحرين واخلارج وتقلد العديد من<br />
املناصب الإرشافية والإدارية حتى وصل هذا املنصب.<br />
كذلك متت ترقية اأمني حممد سلطان اإىل منصب مدير صيانة دائرة الطاقة، وقد التحق سلطان بالعمل يف الرشكة عام 1997 وهو حاصل على<br />
درجة املاجستري يف الهندسة الكهربائية من جامعة البحرين، وكان مديراً بالوكالة منذ مطلع العام 2006 وخضع لربنامج التطوير الإداري الذي<br />
قد اأنهاه الشهر املاضي بنجاح.<br />
من جانبه بارك السيد اأحمد صالح النعيمي الرئيس التنفيذي لرشكة األبا حصول فرج وسلطان على الرتقية اجلديدة، موؤكداً يف الوقت ذاته باأن<br />
رشكة األبا تفتخر بوجود مثل هذه الكفاءات الوطنية التي استحقت بجدارة هذه الرتقية التي جتعلهما الآن يتحمالن عباأ املسئولية اأمام الهيئة<br />
الإدارية، وذلك بعد اأستفادتهما من مرشوع برنامج التطوير الإداري الذي اعتمدته الرشكة ضمن اسرتاتيجية التدريب قبل عامني، واأستفاد منه<br />

<strong>Bahrain</strong>'s Experiment in the Private<br />
Social Labour Fund Discussed at<br />
International Conference<br />
Alba’s Public Relations Manager Dr. Khalid Jassim<br />
Bomtaia, took part in an international conference<br />
in Beirut that was held under the patronage of<br />
Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Sanyoura. The<br />
conference, which was entitled "Role of the Private<br />
Sector in Development: Assessment and Prospects,"<br />
had wide regional and global representation. Dr.<br />
Bomtaia represented <strong>Bahrain</strong>'s experiment in the<br />
Private Social Labour Fund.<br />
In his working paper, Dr. Bomtaia summed up<br />
<strong>Bahrain</strong>'s experiment and highlighted a number<br />
of issues which won praise, recognition and<br />
appreciation due to the efforts made by the Ministry<br />
of Social Development by relying on programmes as<br />
part of its services to the private sector and activating<br />
the "institutionalisation of the social partnership<br />
between the public sector and the public sector."<br />
The Public Relations Manager said the Private Social<br />
Labour Fund was established by an order of the<br />
Minister of Social Development in 2006, and that it<br />
provides financial assistance to non-governmental<br />
organisations in accordance with the principles and<br />
standards laid down by the Executive Committee.<br />
The Fund also seeks to assist private societies and<br />
organisations in realising their objectives to serve all<br />
the classes of the society.<br />
The Fund's terms of reference are devising the<br />
Fund's overall policy, following up the Fund's policies,<br />
suggesting the basis and standards necessary to<br />
determine the private societies and organisations<br />
entitled to the Fund's support, conditions of<br />
entitlement and the amount of the financial support.<br />
It also prepares the annual report on the Fund's<br />
achievements and the report on of the revenues and<br />
expenses, in addition to the Fund's administrative<br />
and financial bye-laws, as well as any other functions<br />
which the Minister of Social Development decides<br />
to be discussed, examined and reported.<br />
Dr. Bomtaia also reviewed the composition of the<br />
Fund's Executive Committee, saying that the Fund<br />
has an executive committee formed in pursuance of an<br />
order by the Minister of Social Development, chaired<br />
by the Assistant Undersecretary for Community<br />
Development, and includes representatives of many<br />
parties, namely the Ministry of Social Development,<br />
<strong>Bahrain</strong> Chamber of Commerce and Industry<br />
and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, in addition to<br />
three members selected by the Ministry of Social<br />
Development from among nominees for national<br />
banks, as well as three members selected by<br />
the Ministry of Social Development from among<br />
nominees of national companies.<br />
The Private Social Labour Fund's objectives include<br />
encouraging private organisations to promote private<br />
work by providing the necessary financial resources<br />
to its unique projects, modernizing methods of<br />
providing assistance and grants to the private<br />
organizations and moving them to new horizons by<br />
obtaining an unlimited financing for their projects and<br />
programmes. This depends entirely on the nature of<br />
the ideas submitted by civic society organizations,<br />
the nature of the services they render and the need<br />
by <strong>Bahrain</strong>'s community for them. Its objectives<br />
also include promoting competition among private<br />
organisations and enhancing the principles of<br />
transparency in providing government support and<br />
translating this support and assistance into services<br />
and programmes which are economically and<br />
socially viable to the society.<br />
During the international conference, Dr. Bomtaia<br />
reviewed another aspect, namely how to manage<br />
the fund, saying: The Private Organizations<br />
Directorate of the Ministry of Social Development<br />
provides assistance to the Fund's Secretary in all<br />
the tasks assigned to him and which are needed<br />
to ensure smooth running of the Fund. The Fund's<br />
revenues consist of the financial allocations set<br />
aside to the Fund by the State as well as the<br />
contributions, grants and subsidies which the<br />
Minister of Social Development accepts. The fund<br />
also provides financial grants which are not predetermined,<br />
to <strong>Bahrain</strong>i private organizations which<br />
undertake unique development projects in their<br />
fields of work.<br />
Regarding supervision of the grant, the National<br />
Centre for the Support of Non-Government<br />
Organizations oversees the procedures of<br />
submitting applications to the financial grants, such<br />
as the evaluation by two bodies, one carrying out<br />
institutional assessment of the organization by the<br />
national Centre for the Support of Non-Government<br />
Organizations, and the second assessing the project<br />
by an independent specialist body selected by the<br />
Ministry (University of <strong>Bahrain</strong>).<br />

والتقدير الذي وصلت اإليه وزارة التنمية الجتماعية يف اململكة التي<br />
اأعتمدت هذا الربنامج ضمن خدماتها اإىل القطاع الأهلي، وتفعيل<br />
"ماأسسة الرشاكة الجتماعية بني القطاع العام واخلاص".<br />
واأشار مدير العالقات العامة اإىل اأن صندوق العمل الجتماعي الأهلي<br />
انساأ بقرار من وزيرة التنمية الجتماعية يف سنة 2006، ويختص<br />
الصندوق بتقدمي الإعانات املالية للجمعيات واملوؤسسات اخلاصة<br />
وفقا لالأسس واملعايري التي يضعها جملس الإدارة يف هذا الساأن. كما<br />
يسعى الصندوق ملساندة اجلمعيات واملوؤسسات اخلاصة يف حتقيق<br />
اأهدافها مبا يخدم املجتمع بكل فئاته.<br />
اأما صالحيات الصندوق فاأنها وضع السياسة العامة للصندوق،<br />
ومتابعة تنفيذ سياسات الصندوق، واقرتاح الأسس واملعايري الالزمة<br />
لتحديد اجلمعيات واملوؤسسات اخلاصة املستحقة لدعم الصندوق،<br />
ورشوط الستحقاق ومقدار الدعم املايل املستحق، مع اإعداد التقرير<br />
السنوي عن اجنازات الصندوق، وتقارير الإيرادات واملرصوفاته<br />
بالإضافة اإىل اإعداد اللوائح الإدارية واملالية للصندوق، مع اأية<br />
اختصاصات اأخرى يطلب وزير التنمية الجتماعية نظرها ودراستها<br />
واإعداد تقرير بساأنها.<br />
كما اأستعرض الدكتور بومطيع مكونات جملس اإدارة الصندوق قائالً:<br />

واملنح للمنظمات الأهلية، والنتقال بها اإىل اآفاق للحصول على متويل<br />
غري حمدد ملرشوعاتها وبراجمها، وبشكل يعتمد بالكامل على طبيعة<br />
الأفكار التي تتقدم بها موؤسسات املجتمع املدين ونوعية اخلدمات<br />
ومتيزها واحتياج املجتمع البحريني لها.<br />
كذلك اإضفاء روح املنافسة بني املنظمات الأهلية، واإرساء مبادئ<br />
الشفافية يف تقدمي الدعم احلكومي وضمان ترجمة هذا الدعم اإىل<br />
خدمات وبرامج ذات جدوى اقتصادية واجتماعية تعود بالنفع على<br />
املجتمع.<br />
واأستعرض مدير العالقات العامة الدكتور خالد جاسم بومطيع يف<br />
املوؤمتر الدويل جانب اآخر وهو كيف يتم اإدارة الصندوق قائالً: تتوىل<br />
اإدارة املنظمات الأهلية بوزارة التنمية الجتماعية مساعدة اأمني<br />
الصندوق يف كافة الأعمال املنوطة بها والالزمة حلسن سري اأعمال<br />
الصندوق، وتتكون اإيرادات الصندوق من العتماد املايل الذي تقرره<br />
الدولة للصندوق، والتربعات والهبات والإعانات التي يقبلها وزير<br />
التنمية الإجتماعية، كما يعمل الربنامج على توفري منح مالية بقيمة<br />
مالية غري حمددة مسبقا للمنظمات الأهلية البحرينية التي تتقدم<br />
باأفكار ملرشوعات تنموية متميزة يف املجال الذي تعمل فيه هذه<br />
املنظمات.<br />
اأما بخصوص الإرشاف على املنحة فاإنه يتوىل املركز الوطني لدعم<br />
املنظمات الأهلية الإرشاف على اإجراءات التقدم للمنحة املالية مثل<br />
جهات التقييم من قبل جهتني الأوىل تعمل التقييم املوؤسسي للمنظمة<br />
من قبل املركز الوطني لدعم املنظمات الأهلية، والثانية تقييم<br />
املرشوع من قبل جهة متخصصة مستقلة يتم اختيارها من قبل<br />
الوزراة ( جامعة البحرين(.<br />

<strong>Aluminium</strong> <strong>Bahrain</strong> (Alba) demonstrated its social<br />
commitment with the launch of a key component of<br />
its health and safety awareness campaign at the Al<br />
Fateh shoreline near Marina Club in Manama.<br />
More than 60 volunteers – comprising Alba employees<br />
and their families – came in full force to spread the<br />
message of safety and healthy living and received an<br />
encouraging response from members of the general<br />
public.<br />
“Alba has a keen sense of corporate social<br />
responsibility that underlines many of our community<br />
service initiatives. This campaign, in particular, was<br />
a major success as we were able to share with the<br />
people of <strong>Bahrain</strong> some of the fundamentals of safety<br />
issues that lead to a safe and healthy lifestyle.<br />
” There were live demos of first aid and fire fighting<br />
exercises as well as presentation on safety and fire<br />
prevention measures at home. In addition, on-thespot<br />
checks for blood pressure, sugar and body fat<br />
index were conducted,” remarked General Manager<br />
(Metal Production) and Head of Alba Community<br />
Services Committee, Mohammed Mahmood.<br />
Alba has consistently maintained a high track record<br />
for safety, continues to enforce strict environmental<br />
guidelines and has surpassed production targets<br />
set for the year. It supports numerous community<br />
oriented programmes and social activities that have<br />
underlined its status as one of <strong>Bahrain</strong>’s leading<br />

اأثبتت رشكة اأملنيوم البحرين )األبا( مسوؤوليتها نحو<br />
املجتمع من خالل تدشينها حلملة توعوية بجوانب الصحة<br />
والسالمة وذلك بساحل الفاحت بالقرب من النادي البحري<br />
يف املنامة.<br />
شارك يف هذه الفعالية اأكرث من 60 متطوعاً من موظفي<br />
األبا واأفراد عائالتهم لنرش رسالة األبا للصحة والسالمة،<br />
حيث حرض الفعالية جمع غفري من املواطنني.<br />
وقد رصح حممد حممود، مدير عام الإنتاج ورئيس جلنة<br />
األبا خلدمة املجتمع، قائالً: "تلتزم رشكة األبا التزاماً ثابتاً<br />
باملسوؤولية الجتماعية، وهي التي متثل الدافع ملختلف<br />
اأنشطة وفعاليات خدمة املجتمع. وهذه الفعالية على وجه<br />
اخلصوص حققت جناحاً َ، حيث متكنا من نرش بعض<br />
القضايا واجلوانب الهامة للسالمة بني املواطنني ونصحهم<br />
باتباع اأسلوب حياة اأكرث صحة وسالمة".<br />
واأضاف حممد حممود: "سوف يكون هناك عرض لإجراءات<br />
الإسعافات الأولية ومكافحة احلريق، بالإضافة اإىل<br />
بعض النصائح والإرشادات التي تضمن السالمة وجتنب<br />
اندلع احلريق يف املنازل. كما اشتملت احلملة اأيضاً على<br />
فحوصات ضغط الدم والسكر وموؤرش الدهون".<br />
لقد حافظت رشكة األبا على سجل متميز يف السالمة، وهي<br />
تواصل تطبيقها لأعلى املعايري البيئية، كما جتاوزت<br />
الأهداف الإنتاجية املوضوعة. وتظهر رشكة األبا دعمها<br />
الدائم للعديد من الفعاليات والأنشطة الجتماعية، مما<br />
يوؤكد مكانتها كاإحدى الرشكات الصناعية الرائدة يف<br />

Increased technical expertise, improved performance<br />
and enhanced skills were some of the key objectives<br />
outlined at a year-long Process and Technology<br />
Training Program for operation and maintenance<br />
staff at Alba's Carbon, Reduction and Casthouse.<br />
The two-level course, which is being held at Alba's<br />
TCS Hall, was launched on Tuesday, 24 February<br />
2009 and is being conducted by Light Metal<br />
Research Centre (LMRC), University of Auckland,<br />
New Zealand. Over 150 Alba employees will be<br />
taking part in this course, which will cover both<br />
theoretical and practical aspects related to smelter<br />
operation and will include specific case studies as<br />
well.<br />

اخلربة التقنية املتزايدة، تطور مستوى الأداء، وتنمية املهارات هي من ضمن الأهداف الرئيسية<br />
التي ركز عليها الربنامج التدريبي للعمليات والتقنية ملوظفي العمليات والصيانة يف كل من دوائر<br />
الكربون والصهر واملسبك برشكة األبا.<br />
بداأ هذا الربنامج التدريبي يف 24 فرباير 2009 يف مرافق الرشكة، حيث ينقسم اإىل مستويني<br />
ويستغرق عاماً كامالً بالتعاون مع خمتصني من مركز بحوث املعادن اخلفيفة )LMRC( وجامعة<br />
اأوكالند، نيوزيلندة. وسوف يشارك يف الربنامج اأكرث من 150 موظفاً، حيث سيغطي اجلوانب<br />
النظرية والعملية املتعلقة بالعمليات يف املصهر، كما سيتناول الربنامج دراسة بعض احلالت.<br />
وقد رصح مدير عام السوؤون الإدارية وجد صالح املدين، قائالً: »اإن موظفينا هم اأهم ثروات الرشكة،<br />
ونحن حريصون كل احلرص على توفري التدريب العملي لهم لتعزيز قدراتهم ومهاراتهم، مما يعزز<br />
من القدرة التنافسية للرشكة«.<br />

وقدم للطالب ومرافقيهم خالل اجلولة رشحاً مفصالً عن رشكة األبا،<br />
والدوائر والأقسام فيها، بالإضافة اإىل رشح خاص عن صناعة<br />
الأملنيوم واأبرز املواد املستخدمة يف هذه الصناعة، واأماكن اإستريادها<br />
من دول العامل، وملحة تاريخية عن صناعة الأملنيوم يف البالد ومراحل<br />
تطورها اإىل الآن.<br />
ورافق الطالب يف جولتهم يف اأرجاء املصنع املهندس رشيد حممد من<br />
رشكة سوميتومو، و5 من مدرسي املدرسة اليابانية يف البحرين، كما<br />
اأطلع الطالب اأثناء جولتهم على البحرية الصناعية الواقعة يف واحة<br />
األبا، والتي تعد اأكرب بحرية صناعية تابعة للقطاع الصناعي.<br />

Alba received students and teachers from the<br />
Japanese School in <strong>Bahrain</strong>, to explain to them<br />
the aluminium industry - which comes as part of<br />
their academic curriculum - with the cooperation of<br />
Sumitomo Corporation <strong>Bahrain</strong>, one of the leading<br />
Japanese companies in <strong>Bahrain</strong>.<br />
The students were introduced to Alba's main<br />
departments, and were given a thorough explanation<br />
on the aluminium industry, the main materials<br />
used in the process, the export destinations, and<br />
historical background on aluminium industry and itd<br />
development through the years.<br />
They were accompanied during the visit by<br />
Rashid Mohammed, the engineer from Sumitomo<br />
corporation, and the school teachers. They also<br />
visited the artificial lake at Her Highness Shaikha<br />
Sabeeka Oasis.<br />
The Japanese School faculty and administrators<br />
highly valued the advanced technology at Alba, and<br />
expressed their thanks and appreciation for Alba's<br />
cooperation in providing all the required information<br />
on aluminium industry for the students.<br />

قامت جمموعة من تالميذ مدرسة الرفاع فيوز بزيارة لرشكة األبا وذلك<br />
للتعرف عن قرب على عملية اإنتاج الأملنيوم يف اأحد اأكرب مصاهر<br />
الأملنيوم احلديثة يف العامل.<br />
اطلع التالميذ على الفيلم الذي يستعرض تاريخ الرشكة واأقسامها<br />
املختلفة، حيث اأبدى التالميذ تفاعلهم من خالل الأسئلة الكثرية التي<br />
طرحوها حول الرشكة وعملية اإنتاج الأملنيوم فيها. وفيما بعد، قام<br />
التالميذ بجولة يف اأرجاء املصهر املختلفة، كمحطة الطاقة، وخطوط<br />
الصهر، واملسبك، والكربون، حيث عرب الزائرون عن مدى اإعجابهم<br />
بالأقسام الكثرية التي يضمها املصنع والتقنية املتقدمة املستخدمة<br />
فيه.<br />
وقد اأعربت هنادي رستم، الأستاذة املرافقة للتالميذ عن بالغ شكرها<br />
وتقديرها للرشكة قائلة: »اأود اأن اأعرب عن جزيل الشكر والمتنان لرشكة<br />
األبا على استضافتها لهذه الزيارة، والتي تبني مدى حرص الرشكة على<br />
تعريف النشء باأحد اأهم روافد القتصاد الوطني والدور البارز الذي تلعبه<br />
يف دفع عجلة التنمية واملساهمة يف الناجت املحلي الإجمايل، والسمعة<br />
الطيبة التي اكتسبتها الرشكة عاملياً على مدى العقود املاضية«.<br />
Students from Riffa Views International School visited<br />
Alba to learn about aluminum production process at<br />
one of the largest modern aluminum smelters in the<br />
world.<br />
During the visit, the students watched a documentary<br />
film on Alba's historical background. The students<br />
were very excited and kept asking different<br />
questions on Alba and how aluminum is produced.<br />
Later on, they went on a tour around the smelter<br />
and its different plants, including power stations,<br />
reduction lines, casthouse, and carbon, and were<br />
very impressed with the advanced technology used<br />
around the multiple sections in the smelter.<br />
"I would like to express my sincere thanks and<br />
appreciation to Alba for their hospitality, which<br />
shows Alba's commitment to introduce one of<br />
the main contributors to the local economy to<br />
our youngsters," said Hanadi Rustom, one of the<br />
instructors who accompanied the students during<br />
the visit. "Alba plays a major role in the Kingdom's<br />
development and GDP, in addition to being a well<br />

اتخاذ القرارات الأخالقية لدى الشباب يف الوقت الذي يستعدون فيه لدخول سوق العمل. كما سيتعلم الطلبة تقدير وحتليل وتطبيق املصطلحات<br />
والنظريات الأساسية، مما سوف يتيح املجال للطلبة لستكشاف القيم واملبادئ والفلسفة الأخالقية وتعلم عملية اتخاذ القرارات.<br />
جاء ذلك خالل استقبال الشيخة حصة بنت خليفة اآل خليفة الرئيس التنفيذي ملوؤسسة اإجناز البحرين، السيد اأحمد صالح النعيمي الرئيس التنفيذي<br />
لرشكة األبا، والدكتور خالد جاسم بومطيع مدير العالقات العامة يف مكتبها لتقدمي دعم الرشكة للموؤسسة.<br />
من جانبه اأشار السيد اأحمد النعيمي قائالً: تاأتي رعاية األبا لربنامج موؤسسة اإجناز البحرين اجلديد يف اإطار املسئولية الجتماعية من خالل دعم<br />

Her Highness Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Injaz <strong>Bahrain</strong> Chief Executive, thanked Alba for their<br />
support and sponsorship of Injaz activities. She emphasised that Alba is one of the leading companies that<br />
lends active support to this programme, which aims to prepare youngsters for professional life. This it does by<br />
teaching them the basic skills in presenting themselves, assessing their performance, emphasising teamwork<br />
and good planning in order to achieve the best results.<br />
“Alba has always been one of the main supporters of Injaz <strong>Bahrain</strong> programmes, including the newly introduced<br />
programme ‘Work Ethics’, which aims to meet the private sector requirements in terms of enhancing ethical<br />
decision making among young students as they get ready to enter the market,” said Shaikha Hessa Al Khalifa.<br />
“This programme also helps students estimate, analyse, and implement theoretical principles, which allows<br />
them to explore the work ethics, and learn the decision making process,” she said.<br />

and the Public Relations Manager, Dr. Khalid Jassim Bomtaia, in her office to receive Alba sponsorship.”Alba’s<br />

International <strong>Aluminium</strong> Meeting in US<br />
وضع مقاييس واجراءات جديدة لتعزيز مستوى السالمة يف قسم<br />
املسبك برشكة اأملنيوم البحرين )األبا( كان حمور ورقة العمل التي<br />
مت تقدميها يف موؤمتر TMS الثامن والثالثني بعد املئة العاملي<br />
لعام 2009 والذي عقد يف مركز موسكون للموؤمترات بسان<br />
فرانسيسكو - كاليفورنيا بالوليات املتحدة الأمريكية بني 15<br />
و19 فرباير املاضي.<br />
وقد ناقشت ورقة العمل التي قدمها مراقب خدمات مناولة<br />
املعدن باملسبك، طالب عبدالرحيم، جتربة األبا مع اآخر التقنيات<br />
املستخدمة يف اآلت السبك التي مت تطبيقها يف املسبك، حيث<br />
كانت الورقة حتت عنوان "فوائد اأداء السالمة يف األبا من خالل<br />
استخدام نظام الدفق التلقائي )اأوتوفلو( لواجستاف لسبك قضبان<br />
السحب".<br />
وقد رصح طالب عبدالرحيم بهذه املناسبة قائالً: "الهدف من<br />
ورقة العمل هذه هو وصف عملية تطبيق نظام اأوتوفلو لرشكة<br />
واجستاف وفوائده ليس فقط من حيث السالمة واجلودة، ولكن<br />
اأيضاً يف عملية اإنتاج قضبان السحب". موضحاً خالل ورقة<br />
العمل التي قدمها اجراءات السالمة يف األبا والنتائج املرتتبة على<br />
اإدارة السالمة من خالل العتماد على نظام معني.<br />
ويف اإطار برنامج األبا املستمر لتطوير مستوى السالمة، فقد ارتاأت<br />
الرشكة تطبيق نظام السبك التلقائي )اأوتوكاست( والدفق التلقائي<br />
الذي طورته رشكة واجستاف لسبك قضبان السحب. وقد مت تركيب<br />
هذا النظام يف املسبك رقم 3 يف األبا وذلك يف ديسمرب 2007، من<br />
اأجل سبك قضبان الأملنيوم التي يبلغ قطرها 203 مم.<br />
New measures and processes introduced to enhance safety performance at Alba’s Casthouse was the<br />
topic of a paper presented at the TMS 2009 138th Annual Meeting held at Moscone Convention Centre,<br />
San Francisco, California, USA from 15 to 19 February 2009.<br />
Superintendent of Metal Handling Logistics at the Casthouse, Talib A. Rahim’s paper was about the<br />
latest modern casting machine technology that was installed at Alba’s Casthouse.<br />
The title of his paper was ‘Benefits to Safety performance at Alba from Use of the Wagstaff Autoflo<br />
System Forecasting of Extrusion Ingot.”<br />
“The aim of this paper was to describe the process for installing the Wagstaff AutoFlo system and<br />
its benefits not only in terms of safety and quality but also in the production of extrusion ingots. The<br />
approach to safety at Alba was outlined and the results achieved using a systematic approach to safety<br />
management was also demonstrated,” said Mr Rahim.<br />
As part of the safety continuous improvement program at Alba, a decision was taken to implement the<br />
Wagstaff developed AutoCast AutoFlo system for AirSlip casting of extrusion ingot. The AutoFlo system<br />
was installed in Casthouse 3 at ALBA in December 2007 for casting of 203 mm diameter extrusion<br />
ingot.<br />

Conocarpus trees to be replaced at Alba<br />
in response to directives by<br />
Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka<br />
In response to the directives of Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the wife of His Majesty the<br />
King Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council of Women, Chairman of the Alba<br />
Board of Directors, Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji, instructed the concerned departments at Alba to work on a plan<br />
to replace conocarpus trees with local fruit bearing trees as part of Alba’s Community Service activities.<br />
“We pledge to implement Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka’s directives in planting trees and caring for the<br />
environment,” stressed Mr. Al Kooheji. “We will start a campaign to stop planting the conocarpus trees and replace<br />
them with local fruit trees, as well as spreading this message across the Kingdom through Alba Community<br />
Service Committee.”<br />

Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Governor<br />
of the Southern Governorate and Director of the<br />
General Directorate for the Protection of Marine<br />
Resources, Wildlife and Environment, and His<br />
Excellency Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al<br />
Khalifa, Minister of Finance, as well as Alba<br />
Board members, <strong>Bahrain</strong> International Garden<br />
Show Organising Committee members and<br />
Alba employees.<br />
Mr. Al Kooheji also referred to Alba’s<br />
commitment to the environment as part of its<br />
corporate social responsibility programme,<br />
and stressed that protecting the environment<br />
is a priority for Alba as it directly affects the life<br />
of individuals and society as a whole to enjoy a<br />
clean and pollution-free environment.<br />
It is worth noting that Alba Oasis, now named<br />
after Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka, was<br />
established in 2005 and is considered one of<br />
the major environmental protection programmes that increases green cover in <strong>Bahrain</strong>. The Oasis, which is<br />
located in the south side of the smelter and covers a total of 9000 square meters, is divided into three parts; the<br />
water area, which is located at the entrance of the oasis to the east and was built to benefit from the cooling water<br />
of the aluminium moulds through pumping it into the lake and to the rest of the Oasis to be used in plant irrigation.<br />
The Oasis area is covered with different kinds of plants and trees, including palm trees, cactus, and other local<br />
kinds of trees. There is also the Alba garden, which includes many kinds of local fruit a vegetables.<br />

املصانع الكربى يف مملكة البحرين دليل واضح على اهتمام<br />
سموها البالغ باحلفاظ على البيئة واملسطحات اخلرضاء،<br />
كما اأن دعم سموها لزيادة الرقعة اخلرضاء لهو دليل اآخر<br />
على اأن اململكة حتظى بدعم مبارش من قبل القيادة احلكيمة<br />
يف البالد لتنمية هذا اجلانب املهم من البيئة والذي يكون<br />
له الأثر البالغ يف جناح البحرين وتفوقها يف املستقبل يف<br />
اجلانب البيئي والزراعي.<br />
جاء ذلك عقب الزيارة امليمونة التي تفضلت بها صاحبة<br />
السمو الشيخة سبيكة بنت اإبراهيم اآل خليفة يوم الثالثاء<br />
املاضي اإىل رشكة األبا، بحضور سمو الشيخ عبد اهلل بن حمد<br />
اآل خليفة حمافظ املحافظة اجلنوبية رئيس الهيئة العامة<br />
للبيئة وحماية احلياة الفطرية، ومعايل الشيخ اأحمد بن حممد<br />
اآل خليفة وزير املالية وجمع غفري من املدعوين واأعضاء<br />
جملس اإدارة الرشكة وعضوات جلنة معرض البحرين الدويل<br />
للحدائق.<br />
واأشار رئيس جملس الإدارة اأن اهتمام رشكة األبا يف جمال<br />
حماية البيئة ياأتي من منطلق املسئولية الجتماعية التي<br />
توليها الرشكة اأهمية خاصة. كما اأكد يف سياق حديثه<br />
اإىل رضورة الهتمام بالبيئة واملحافظة عليها واستغالل<br />
املناطق املالئمة للزراعة باململكة وذلك ملا له من اأثر بالغ<br />
يف حياة الفرد واملجتمع وحماية حلق الفرد يف التمتع ببيئة<br />
نظيفة خالية من التلوث.<br />
اجلدير بالذكر اأنه مت اإنشاء واحة األبا التي حتمل الآن اسم<br />
صاحبة السمو الشيخة سبيكة بنت اإبراهيم اآل خليفة يف العام 2005 وتعترب من مشاريع حماية البيئة وزيادة الرقعة اخلرضاء فى الرشكة، وتقع يف<br />
املنطقة اجلنوبية للمصنع على مساحة 9000 مرت مربع وهى مقسمة اإىل ثالثة اأقسام منطقة البحرية وتقع يف مدخل الواحة من املنطقة الرشقية<br />
ومت اإنشائها لالستفادة من املياه الناجتة عن عملية تربيد قوالب الأملنيوم من ضخها اإىل البحرية ومن ثم ضخها ثانية اإىل باقي الواحة لالستخدام<br />
فى الأغراض الزراعية اأما منطقة الواحة فتعترب امتداد للون الأخرض املنبسط على اأرض األبا وحتيط بها النخيل واأشجار الصبار والكنار والعديد من<br />
اأشجار الظل ، واأخرياً حديقة خرضوات األبا التى حتوى العديد من اخلرضاوات والفواكه البحرينية.<br />
