28. Mails for Navy Personnel serving in INS Ships – Mail for Navy Personnel on board<br />

I.N.S. ships should be addressed c/o the Fleet Mail Office, Bombay. The No., rank and other<br />

<strong>part</strong>iculars of the addressee, as well as the name of the ship, should be indicated.<br />

29. Articles bearing indefinite addresses – (1) No article will be delivered by the <strong>Post</strong><br />

Office unless it bears a definite address. Articles addressed in a general way, i.e., address to a<br />

class of persons in contradiction to a <strong>part</strong>icular person or firm and articles addressed to initials or<br />

figures or to clearly fictitious names, or to a Christian name without a surname, are regarded as not<br />

bearing a definite address unless they are to the care of some definite person or firm, or unless the<br />

address specifies some definite place or delivery such as a <strong>part</strong>icular house or a <strong>part</strong>icular post box<br />

or a <strong>part</strong>icular No. in a street. Articles addressed in a general way or to initials figures. Christian<br />

names without surnames, fictitious names or conventional marks of any kind will not be delivered<br />

if addressed merely to a post <strong>office</strong> or “<strong>Post</strong>e Restante” or to the care of a postmaster.<br />

(2) The following are examples of definite and indefinite addresses :-<br />

(This would be a definite address as there is only<br />

one Officers’ Mess at Mathura).<br />

(e) Invester No. 2 Victoria Gardens, Bombay-<br />

400027.<br />

Indefinite and therefore undeliverable<br />

(a) Chief Secretary, Shimla<br />

(b) The non-commissioned Officer Meerut.<br />

(c) The President of the Officer’s Mess Delhi.<br />

(This address would be indefinite as Delhi has several<br />

Officer’s Messes).<br />

(d) The Station Master Lalpur, C.R.<br />

(This address could be definite because the <strong>Post</strong> <strong>office</strong><br />

of destination is not given).<br />

(3) Parcels or other articles tendered at a post <strong>office</strong> for transmission under the<br />

Registration, Insurance, or Value-payable system, as also Money Order, will not be accepted
