delivery often result from an incorrect or incomplete postal address. The address should,<br />

therefore, be complete and definite enough to ensure the easy transmission of the article and its<br />

delivery at destination to the addressee without any elaborate enquiry. The public can help the<br />

<strong>Post</strong> Office by keeping the following points in mind while addressing their correspondence:<br />

(a) The address should be written parallel to the length of the cover and in the lower half<br />

and towards the right-hand side of the front of the article, leaving a clear margin at least<br />

3 centimeter at the top for the postage stamps and labels, postmarks and other<br />

indications.<br />

(b) The <strong>Post</strong> town should be noted in block letter and according to the approved spelling in<br />

the List of <strong>Post</strong> Offices (Part III of this Guide). It should, also be underlined. The PIN<br />

Code of the post town should be noted below.<br />

(c) The following <strong>part</strong>iculars should generally be furnished in the address and in the same<br />

order as noted below :-<br />

In the case of articles for delivery in the urban<br />

areas<br />

In the case of articles for delivery in the rural<br />

areas<br />

(i) Name of addressee (i) Name of addressee<br />

Profession, if any<br />

Number and/or name of the House,<br />

and name of the street or Road.<br />

of street if any.<br />

(v) <strong>Post</strong> Box No., if any. (v) Name of the village and Thana Firka, Hobli,<br />

etc.<br />

Name of the <strong>Post</strong> Town and Pin-<br />

Name of the District and State Pin-<br />

(vi) Name of the <strong>Post</strong> Office of delivery and the<br />

PIN-Code.<br />

necessary if correct PIN is written.<br />

This is not necessary if correct PIN is<br />

(d) It is <strong>part</strong>icularly important to note the District in cases where there is more than one<br />

<strong>Post</strong> town bearing the same name and if PIN is not noted. If the name of the district is
