(d) Any article containing postage or other stamps or labels, or a cheque, hundi, bank note,<br />

bankpost bill, bill-of-exchange, or the like, if the contents are either superscribed upon<br />

the cover or are known or manifest to the <strong>office</strong>rs of the <strong>Post</strong> Office owing to the<br />

transparency, insecurity or insufficiency of the cover or to any other cause.<br />

(e) Any article bearing the word “registered” or any other word, phrase or mark to the like<br />

effect, written or impressed on the cover.<br />

(f) Any registered article which is re-posted after having been delivered.<br />

(g) Any value-payable article.<br />

EXCEPTION : Nothing in this rule shall be held to render registration of a packet<br />

compulsory only by reason that it contains a stamped envelope, postcard or wrapper as<br />

provided by clause 123 (C).<br />

2. Twice the fee for registration will be levied on the delivery of any postal article required<br />

under this clause to be registered on which the fee for registration has not been prepaid. If fee for<br />

registration has been <strong>part</strong>ly prepaid, twice the difference between the fee payable and the amount<br />

actually paid will be levied.<br />

INSURANCE<br />

172. Articles which can be insured. – Registered letters, value-payable registered letters,<br />

registered parcels and value-payable registered parcels may be insured up to the value of Rs.600 at<br />

such branch post <strong>office</strong>s, and up to the value of Rs. 10,000 at such other post <strong>office</strong>s, as are<br />

authorized, to accept articles for insurance and for such post <strong>office</strong>s as are authorized to deliver<br />

insured articles, provided that in no case shall such value exceed the real value of the contents of<br />

the article insured; provided also that articles containing gold, coin or bullion Government<br />

currency notes or bank notes or any combination of these shall be insured for the actual value of<br />

the contents. For the purpose of this rule, papers such as securities, legal documents, etc., may be<br />

regarded as having a real value.<br />

NOTE : See clause 209(9).<br />

173. Insurance. – Insurance covers all risks in course of transmission by post.<br />

NOTE 1. See clause 209(9) regarding transmission of gold coin or mullion.<br />

174. Offices which can insure. – articles may be insured at all post <strong>office</strong>s in the list given<br />

in Part III of this Guide with the exception of those marked ‘B’ and ‘C’ and for all post <strong>office</strong>s<br />

named in the list with the exception of those marked ‘B’ and ‘L’.<br />

NOTE : Registered articles to and from Army <strong>Post</strong> Offices may be insured upto the value of Rs.500/- each.
