3.2 V/Line Passenger trains
Payments by the State to the regional rail operator (V/Line Passenger)—including payments for coach
services directly contracted by V/Line—are summarised in Table 7. Farebox revenue is retained by V/Line and
is included to provide an overall indication of the cost of the services. State contract payments represent the
net payments required for V/Line Passenger to run the services.
V/Line Passenger incurred an Operational Performance Regime penalty of -$387,000 as service disruption
levels exceeded the agreed target levels in the December quarter 2009.

3.3 Metropolitan and regional buses
Payments to metropolitan, regional and school bus operators are presented in Table 8. Farebox revenue
collected is not included in the table as other provisions are in place. For metropolitan services, farebox
revenue is returned to the State while regional bus farebox revenue is retained by the operator. School
services, in most instances, do not collect revenue.
