Climate change
affects Hong Kong
這 個 冬 天 「 真 」 太 冷 !

Hong Kong winters are warmer and shorter than they
used to be. Perhaps it’s hard to believe given the recordbreaking
string of cold days earlier in the month, but
based on decades’ worth of data, research by Prof.
Yan Yuk-yee of Geography, found that over the past
30 years Hong Kong’s minimum temperature has risen
by 0.02 degrees Celsius per year.
The Hong Kong Observatory also announced
earlier that, “The annual mean temperatures [both
minimum and maximum] in Hong Kong will continue
to rise in the 21st century.” Does it mean that winter
will no longer appear in Hong Kong
Global Warming
Global warming describes the rise in the earth’s
temperature that occurs when “greenhouse” gases
- especially carbon dioxide (CO 2
) - trap heat close
to the earth’s surface. In the 20th century CO 2
concentrations increased sharply. The
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) attributes the increase to human activity.
“It is very likely that over the past 50 years: cold days, cold nights and frosts have become
less frequent over most land areas, and hot days and hot nights have become more
frequent.”
Prof. Yan notes that while global warming may be spurring climate change, in Hong
Kong extreme urbanisation is the key factor. “In the past, night time temperatures were
cooler because the heat that buildings absorbed during the day was released at night,
and it dispersed. Buildings weren’t as close together back then, so heat could dissipate
into the air. Now, however, more buildings generate ever-greater amounts of heat, and
the city’s high building density has left no space for all the heat to go. It gets trapped.”
The problem worsens in summer when everyone uses air-conditioners to cool down.
“This initiates a vicious cycle. You’re surrounded by hot air, so you cool your flat by turning
on your air-con, which in turn pumps out more hot air, raising the temperature even more,
which prompts you to set your air-con lower still.”
WHAT CAN WE DO
Prof. Yan urges the government to lower the density of urban development
and restrict the height of buildings. Moreover, there is plenty we can do. Changing
one’s habits isn’t easy, but remember improvement begins with one person,
you!
1. Reduce electricity consumption. Set your air-con to 25.5°C (or, try not using
it!). Switch off all unnecessary lights, computers and electric water heaters.
2. Driving is a person’s single most polluting activity. Take public transport
whenever possible.
3. Cut-down on air travel.
4. Buy less. Recognise the difference between what you need and what you
want.

港 的 平 均 最 低 氣 溫 每 年 均 上 升 0.02 度 。 香 港 天 文 台 更 曾 指 出 :「 香 港 的 年 平 均 氣 溫 、 年 平 均 最 低 氣
溫 及 年 平 均 最 高 氣 溫 , 會 在 二 十 一 世 紀 內 繼 續 上 升 。」 莫 非 香 港 將 來 真 的 再 沒 有 冬 天
全 球 暖 化
全 球 暖 化 是 指 大 氣 中 的 溫 室 氣 體 增 加 , 特 別 是 二 氧 化 碳 , 阻 礙 地 球 將 熱 量 射 回 太 空 , 令 地 面 吸
收 的 輻 射 量 增 多 , 地 球 的 氣 溫 因 而 上 升 , 形 成 溫 室 效 應 。 過 去 很 多 國 際 組 織 和 研 究 均 指 出 全 球 暖 化
是 引 致 氣 溫 上 升 的 主 因 。 二 十 世 紀 中 期 , 全 球 大 氣 的 二 氧 化 碳 濃 度 急 劇 上 升 , 聯 合 國 跨 政 府 氣 候 變
遷 小 組 (IPCC) 認 為 可 能 是 受 到 人 類 活 動 影 響 , 引 致 溫 室 氣 體 濃 度 上 升 , 繼 而 令 全 球 氣 溫 上 升 。 該
組 織 更 於 評 估 報 告 中 指 出 :「 過 去 五 十 年 , 在 陸 地 一 帶 出 現 寒 冷 日 子 和 夜 晚 , 以 及 結 霜 的 次 數 可 以
肯 定 是 比 以 前 少 ; 相 反 酷 熱 的 白 天 和 晚 上 則 愈 來 愈 多 。」
甄 教 授 表 示 , 雖 然 全 球 暖 化 某 程 度 會 加 速 氣 候 轉 變 , 不 過 香 港 主 要 的 誘 因 都 是 高 度 都 市 化 所
致 。 她 說 :「 大 家 以 前 會 覺 得 入 夜 後 天 氣 較 為 清 涼 , 原 因 是 建 築 物 外 牆 會 於 晚 間 釋 放 出 日 間 吸 收 的
熱 能 , 由 於 往 時 的 樓 宇 不 像 現 在 的 密 , 散 熱 速 度 會 較 快 。 現 在 的 建 築 物 則 較 以 往 的 多 和 高 , 吸 熱 量
相 對 增 加 , 但 樓 宇 之 間 根 本 沒 有 足 夠 空 間 來 散 熱 , 以 致 晚 上 愈 來 愈 熱 , 情 況 就 像 困 在 蒸 籠 裡 一 樣 。」
夏 天 的 情 況 更 為 惡 劣 , 甄 教 授 解 釋 :「 這 是 個 惡 性 循 環 。 大 家 在 夏 天 時 就 只 懂 開 冷 氣 , 但 這 只
會 排 放 更 多 熱 氣 , 令 氣 溫 不 斷 上 升 , 促 使 大 家 更 加 要 開 冷 氣 來 降 溫 。」

保 護 環 境 齊 響 應
甄 教 授 建 議 政 府 應 從 都 市 規 劃 方 面 對 症 下 藥 , 減 低 人 口 居 住 密 度 , 並 嚴 格 監 管 建 築 物 的 高 度
限 制 。 另 一 方 面 , 市 民 大 眾 亦 應 同 心 協 力 , 為 地 球 獻 出 一 分 力 , 謹 記 「 保 護 環 境 , 由 我 做
起 」!
1. 減 少 耗 電 量 ── 將 空 調 調 較 至 室 溫 25.5 度 ( 或 選 擇 不 用 !), 關 掉 所 有 不 必 要 的 電 燈 、 電
腦 及 電 熱 水 器 。
2. 出 入 應 選 乘 公 共 交 通 工 具 , 避 免 駕 駛 私 家 車 , 對 環 境 造 成 污 染 。
3. 飛 機 耗 燃 量 大 , 盡 量 減 少 旅 遊 的 飛 行 次 數 。
4. 應 買 則 買 , 避 免 造 成 資 源 浪 費 。

Remember leaving home and, perhaps, homeland for the first time To
allay students’ anxiety at this milestone, the Counselling and
Development Centre of the Office of Student Affairs organised
a Host Family Programme where HKBU colleagues and friends
at external institutions take under their wings
undergraduate students from the Mainland, helping
them acclimate to life in Hong Kong. On Campus
talked with three colleagues active in the
Programme.
人 離 開 自 己 熟 悉 的 地 方 , 不 免 會 感 到 徬 徨 無 助 , 成 人
尚 且 如 此 , 何 況 是 只 有 十 來 歲 的 學 生 學 生 事 務 處 輔
導 中 心 的 「 親 善 家 庭 計 劃 」, 鼓 勵 同 事 和 個 別 友 好 機
構 幫 助 從 內 地 到 浸 大 攻 讀 學 士 課 程 的 學 生 , 適 應 香 港

“We have the power to love”
Mrs. Kwok with her calm smile has served HKBU for 26 years.
A Christian, she credits the bible verse, “We have the power to love,
because He first had love for us”, with bringing her into the Programme.
After her daughter, who was a High School exchange student
in the US, received the care of an American host family, Mrs. Kwok
felt it was her turn to return the favour.
Fully supported by her family, she has looked after three Mainland
students over two years. “At first, my son, who is now in Form 5,
was a bit hesitant. He worried that extra young people meant there
would be less love for him. Now, he realises we love him as much
as always and he’s gained three friends too.”
Mrs. Kwok wastes not a minute in breaking the ice with students.
Last year, as soon as Orientation ended she whisked her student
off to a table tennis game; this year she took the students to the
Peak. “After all, we are strangers to each other. I offer myself wholeheartedly
to gain students’ trust and acceptance.” She takes great
happiness in her lasting friendships with students.
Along with home visits, she’s taken students to see the Tsing
Ma Bridge and to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival at Repulse Bay.
For those whose language skills needed beefing up, she’s helped
look around for appropriate courses. “I hope they understand they
are not alone, that there are people who love and will help guide
them.
“As a university with a Christian heritage, it is important that
we extend our love to others,” she said.

面 上 泛 著 開 心 、 祥 和 笑 容 的 郭 太
加 入 大 學 二 十 六 年 , 是 一 位 基 督 徒 , 本 著 「 我 們
愛 , 因 為 神 先 愛 我 們 」 這 句 聖 經 金 句 , 連 續 兩 年
參 加 「 親 善 家 庭 計 劃 」。
郭 太 的 女 兒 今 年 在 美 國 就 讀 大 二 , 猶 記 女 兒
在 美 國 當 交 流 生 時 , 寄 住 在 一 個 親 善 家 庭 裡 , 得
到 這 個 家 庭 的 妥 善 照 顧 ,「 女 兒 得 到 人 家 的 愛 ,
我 也 希 望 愛 他 人 。」
她 說 這 是 一 家 人 一 起 參 與 的 計 劃 。「 起 初 就
讀 中 五 的 兒 子 有 點 戒 心 , 恐 怕 父 母 的 愛 會 被 分
薄 , 但 現 在 他 已 明 白 , 我 們 對 他 的 愛 沒 有 改 變 ,
他 反 而 得 了 三 位 年 齡 相 近 的 朋 友 。」
郭 太 以 心 對 待 她 所 照 顧 的 同 學 , 從 第 一 天 在
互 相 認 識 的 茶 會 起 便 悉 心 破 冰 , 去 年 跟 同 學 打 乒
乓 球 , 今 年 遊 山 頂 。「 畢 竟 彼 此 初 相 識 , 我 們 要
主 動 , 以 愛 心 及 行 動 鼓 勵 同 學 , 才 能 達 至 彼 此 接
納 和 信 任 。」 她 預 備 的 節 目 還 有 一 起 晚 飯 、 中 秋
節 海 灘 賞 月 、 暢 遊 馬 灣 公 園 、 欣 賞 青 馬 大 橋 等 。
「 我 希 望 同 學 感 受 到 他 們 不 是 孤 單 一 人 在 陌
生 的 地 方 , 而 是 讓 他 們 明 白 這 裡 有 人 關 心 他 們 、
有 人 愛 他 們 。」 玩 樂 以 外 , 她 還 留 心 同 學 的 需
要 , 如 當 知 道 他 們 的 語 言 能 力 不 足 , 便 多 為 他 們
留 意 英 語 和 廣 東 話 課 程 。
郭 太 認 為 這 個 計 劃 十 分 值 得 同 事 參 與 。「 浸
大 是 一 所 基 督 教 傳 統 的 大 學 , 將 愛 宣 揚 是 很 重 要
的 啊 !」
“Offer your care”
Dr. Choi joined HKBU in 1996 and the Host Family
Programme in 2006. He believes Christians ought to
express care for others, so with the support of his wife
and three daughters, he has looked after four Mainland
students.
“I help students learn about life in Hong Kong,
and they teach me more about life on the Mainland.
“Most students are only-children, so when they
meet us, they have great curiosity about life in a threechild
family.” His eldest daughter is 14, and gets along
well with the Mainland students. “Once, after my daughter
invited a student to play
badminton, the student treated
her to a meal.”
Students are welcome
at his family dinners and Dr. Choi
encourages them to participate
in activities organised by the
Kowloon City Baptist Church,
which coordinates hikes and
seafood feasts for Mainland
students.

UK: “In the UK public
transportation is not as
extensive as in Hong Kong. My host
family often drove me here and there, and we established
a very close relationship. Hong Kong’s different. After
just one semester, students can get around on their own.
“Outgoing students quickly adjust to life here, but
since some single children tend to be more passive, I
ought to be more proactive. HKBU takes good care of
students and I enjoy doing my part.”

一 九 九 六 年 加 入 浸 大 的 蔡 博 士 本 著 「 多 關 心 別
人 」 的 基 督 教 信 念 , 參 加 「 親 善 家 庭 計 劃 」 已 經
兩 年 , 在 太 太 和 三 位 女 兒 的 支 持 下 , 先 後 接
待 了 四 位 內 地 生 。 蔡 博 士 認 為 計 劃 十
分 有 意 義 , 一 方 面 可 幫 助 內 地 生
早 日 融 入 社 會 , 另 一 方 面 ,

他 的 三 孩 之 家 充 滿 好 奇 。「 他 們 多 是 獨 生 子 女 , 看 到
我 家 的 女 兒 們 都 替 我 們 開 心 。」 蔡 博 士 最 年 長 的 女 兒
只 有 十 四 歲 , 雖 然 年 紀 上 跟 內 地 生 有 些 差 距 , 但 相 處
仍 然 融 洽 。「 有 一 次 女 兒 約 了 內 地 生 打 羽 毛 球 , 賽 後
這 位 同 學 還 請 我 女 兒 吃 東 西 。」
蔡 博 士 曾 相 約 同 學 和 家 人 一 起 吃 團 年 飯 , 也 邀 請
他 們 出 席 九 龍 城 浸 信 會 特 別 為 內 地 同 學 舉 辦 的 活 動 如
遠 足 、 吃 海 鮮 等 。
早 年 留 學 英 國 的 蔡
博 士 原 來 也 受 惠 於 當 地
的 親 善 家 庭 。 他 說 :「 英
國 幅 員 廣 闊 , 所 以 接 待
我 的 家 庭 常 以 私 家 車 接
載 留 學 生 , 因 此 我 們 的
關 係 較 為 密 切 。 反 觀 香
港 地 方 小 , 交 通 便
捷 , 學 生 一 般 在 一 個
學 期 後 已 可 以 來 去 自
如 , 自 我 體 驗 港 式 生
活 。」
總 結 經 驗 , 蔡 博 士 說 個 別 同
學 較 為 外 向 , 很 快 便 適 應 下 來 , 但 不 少 獨 生 子 女 都 較
被 動 ,「 所 以 我 可 能 應 主 動 點 」。
蔡 博 士 鼓 勵 同 事 參 加 這 項 計 劃 。「 大 學 對 內 地 生
十 分 關 顧 , 不 單 學 業 成 績 , 還 有 日 常 生 活 , 我 希 望 在
幫 助 學 生 成 長 方 面 作 出 一 點 貢 獻 。」

“I see the Host Family
Programme as a mentorship
scheme,” said Mr. Shuen who
joined the HKBU programme
at its inception. He and his wife
have participated in similar
schemes with mentees from
the Hong Kong Institute of
Certified Public Accountants, HKU, CityU, HKUST and PolyU.
To date, he’s looked after nine HKBU students. “The benefits
are two-way: I help students out and at the same time, learn from
them about trendy things and new ideas in society.”
He found the Programme doesn’t require huge amounts of
time. Little effort is required to prepare for gatherings with his mentees,
just some prior coordination. “We usually have dinners, where I
select a theme, such as world or local affairs, etiquette, or courtesy.
I ask some students to come early, in case they want to talk over
any personal questions.
“Quoting from another mentor : ‘The enjoyable thing about
chatting to a mentee is that, they listen to you; if you talk to your
own children, they usually ignore you’,” added Mr. Shuen humourously.
“It’s thrilling to see students’ progress. When they arrive, some hardly
speak a single accurate word of Cantonese. Yet after just one semester,
they speak quite fluent Cantonese with little accent. I’m really
encouraged by the effort they put into conquering challenges.”
Broadening students’ horizons and helping them establish
a network are his priorities. “Most students are only-children who
lack the networks that exist in big families. Therefore, it’s especially
important to build up a personal network, which can significantly
benefit them later. I encourage mentees to exchange email addresses
among themselves and keep contact.”
Never missing a chance to spread happiness, last year the
Shuens invited three HKBU mentees to the once-in-a-life-time HKBU
50th Anniversary Gala Dinner. When one student could not find
an appropriate dress for the dinner, Mrs. Shuen lent her one and
even had it altered for her.
“For colleagues with time and interest, the Programme’s a
terrific chance to help others and learn from them too,” enthuses
Mr. Shuen.

孫 先 生 是 「 親 善 家 庭 計 劃 」 的 台 柱 , 從 計 劃 一
開 始 便 已 參 加 , 現 時 已 照 顧 了 九 位 內 地 同 學 。「 我
視 這 為 一 項 師 友 計 劃 。」 孫 先 生 在 這 方 面 經 驗 豐
富 , 他 和 太 太 很 多 年 前 已 參 加 不 同 類 型 的 師 友 計
劃 , 他 的 學 生 遍 及 會 計 師 公 會 、 港 大 、 城 大 、 科 大
和 理 大 。 人 數 最 多 時 , 學 生 可 以 坐 滿 兩 圍 。
「 其 實 雙 方 面 都 可 以 得 益 , 既 可 幫 助 年 輕 人 , 明
白 他 們 的 想 法 , 我 也 從 他 們 身 上 知 道 社 會 上 的 新 事
物 。」
他 也 笑 道 :「 曾 聽 一 位 導 師 說 過 :『 跟 同 學 說
話 , 他 們 會 聽 ; 跟 兒 女 說 話 , 他 們 不 理 會 。』 其 實
每 當 看 見 同 學 進 步 , 我 都 很 開 心 , 好 像 有 一 些 內 地
生 從 第 一 個 學 期 一 句 廣 東 話 也 不 懂 , 到 下 學 年 連 口
音 也 沒 有 , 看 到 他 們 的 努 力 , 我 也 感 到 欣 慰 。」
孫 先 生 通 常 安 排 晚 飯 跟 學 生 見 面 。「 我 會 相 約
個 別 同 學 早 點 到 達 , 說 說 個 人 近 況 。 每 次 聚 會 我 都
預 備 一 個 主 題 , 好 像 是 世 界 事 務 如 次 按 問 題 、 本 港
新 聞 、 餐 桌 禮 儀 、 待 人 接 物 的 態 度 、 以 非 母 語 交 談
等 , 希 望 擴 闊 他 們 的 視 野 , 以 及 建 立 人 際 網 絡 。」
他 續 說 :「 現 時 的 孩 子 多 是 獨 生 , 本 身 有 血 緣 網
絡 的 已 經 不 多 , 假 如 現 在 便 已 建 立 人 際 網 絡 , 對 他
們 日 後 的 發 展 必 定 大 有 幫 助 , 所 以 我 很 鼓 勵 他 們 互
相 交 換 電 郵 地 址 。」
孫 先 生 兩 夫 婦 並 非 只 是 嚴 師 , 他 們 對 同 學 的 關
顧 十 分 細 微 。「 去 年 大 學 五 十 周 年 晚 宴 , 我 邀 請 了
三 位 內 地 生 參 加 , 讓 他 們 感 受 難 得 一 見 的 大 場 面 。
一 位 同 學 因 沒 有 合 適 的 禮 服 , 太 太 便 借 出 她 的 裙
子 , 並 為 同 學 修 改 至 合 身 , 讓 她 開 開 心 心 赴 宴 。」
孫 先 生 呼 籲 有 時 間 、 有 能 力 的 同 事 一 起 參 加
「 親 善 家 庭 計 劃 」, 在 幫 助 內 地 生 的 同 時 , 也 多 認 識
內 地 情 況 。

1. How does “dry” cleaning work
When you wash your clothes the usual way, the
solvent is water. The trick of dry cleaning lies in
applying a petrochemical solvent (i.e.
perchloroethylene) to stains, then putting clothes
in a high-speed rotating chamber (similar to the
centrifuge used in a laboratory) to speed up chemical
decomposition of the stains.
2. Why shouldn’t we wear dry cleaned clothes
immediately after they have been cleaned
Chemical residue is left on clothes after
cleaning. Cumulative inhalation of large
amounts of this residue may be a health
risk. To counter this, put dry cleaned clothes
in open air for one or two days to let the
residue evaporate. Then it is safe to wear
them.
3. How does softener make clothes as soft
as silk
If you put a line-dried, rough-textured towel under
a microscope, you will see many fibres all stuck to
each other, but going in many different directions.
Each fibre carries either a positive or negative electric
charge, which is why they attract each other and
stick firmly together, creating a rough surface.
Softeners, made of cationic surfactants, coat the
fibres and harmonise their electrical charges, making

洗 衣 小 百 「 科 」: 五 個 為 什 麼
By winter’s end, piles of sweaters and coats need cleaning.
Washing these clothes the usual way may not be recommended,
and our humid spring doesn’t lend itself to successful clothes
drying the natural way; therefore, many of us choose dry cleaning
even though we’re unsure how it works. Dr. Kelvin Leung, Lecturer
in Chemistry, explained the science behind five common clothes
cleaning questions.

4. Are aromatic softeners as effective as nonaromatic
ones
Aroma has no connection with the effectiveness
of a softener. Most softeners contain aromatic
chemicals to mask the odd smell of the softening
chemicals. If you use the appropriate amount of
softener each time, there is nothing to worry about;
however, it is suggested to use softener only when
necessary.
5. Why do softeners sometimes leave stains
on clothes
At the end of the wash cycle, torn
fibers sometimes remain in the
washing machine. Undiluted
softener or undissolved
washing powder can
stick to these fibres,
creating a residue that
clings to clothes,
staining them. If the
situation persists, try
cleaning the interior of
your washing machine.

在 衣 物 上 , 如 長 期 大 量 吸 入 這 些 殘 留
化 學 物 可 能 會 損 害 健 康 。 乾 洗 後 的 衣
物 應 放 在 通 風 處 , 讓 這 些 高 揮 發 性

後 , 便 可 安 心 穿 著 。

衣 物 柔 順 劑 的 主 要 成 份
是 表 面 活 性 劑 , 可 把 凌

舉 例 說 , 把 一 件 硬 繃 繃 的
毛 巾 放 在 顯 微 鏡 下 觀 看 ,
可 看 到 縱 橫 交 錯 的 纖 維 , 由
於 每 條 纖 維 附 帶 不 同 電 荷 , 帶 正 電 荷
和 帶 負 電 荷 的 纖 維 會 互 相 吸 引 , 造 成
纖 維 參 差 不 齊 的 情 況 , 觸 摸 時 一 點 也
不 平 滑 。 衣 物 柔 順 劑 內 的 表 面 活 性
劑 , 可 統 一 纖 維 附 帶 的 電 荷 , 附 帶 相
同 電 荷 的 纖 維 自 然 互 相 排 斥 , 排 列 變
得 井 井 有 條 , 因 此 十 分 柔 軟 順 滑 。
4. 為 什 麼 衣 物 柔 順 劑 不 是 越 香 越 有
效
香 味 本 身 與 柔 順 的 功 效 並 沒 有 關 係 ,
大 部 份 衣 物 柔 順 劑 都 加 入 了 有 香 味 的
化 學 物 , 目 的 是 掩 蓋 柔 順 劑 中 化 學 品
的 難 聞 氣 味 。 衣 物 柔 順 劑 的 份 量 要 用
得 適 量 , 沒 有 需 要 時 便 不 要 加 入 柔 順
劑 。
5. 為 什 麼 使 用 柔 順 劑 洗 衣 後 有 時 會 令
衣 物 留 下 污 漬
洗 衣 過 程 中 有 時 會 有 衣 物 纖 維 殘 留 在
洗 衣 機 內 , 偶 然 有 些 未 完 全 溶 於 水 中
的 柔 順 劑 或 洗 衣 粉 沾 到 這 些 殘 留 纖 維
上 , 再 沾 到 衣 物 上 , 便 會 令 衣 物 留 下
污 漬 。 如 果 情 況 經 常 發 生 , 可 嘗 試 徹
底 清 理 洗 衣 槽 。

Communication) won the Best Digital
Entertainment (Digital Animation) Award in the
“Hong Kong ICT Awards 2007” with an
impressive piece of animation work titled
“Celcom X” which also swept the Best Digital Entertainment
(Digital Animation) Certificate of Merit, Best TV Commercial,
Best Visual Effects, Best Character Design, Best Modeling &
Texturing and Best Lighting & Rendering awards.

“White Day”, a double Valentine with a triple value
白 色 情 人 節 : 雙 倍 甜 蜜 三 倍 禮 物
In case you thought that only ladies got all the presents,
chocolates and flowers on Valentine’s Day, think
again!
The Japanese holiday “White Day”, while
essentially a Valentine’s Day just for women, ensures
that men are remembered with gifts too. Here’s how
it works: in Japan, Valentine’s Day, 14th February,
is reserved as the day when women give gifts to close
male friends or colleagues. The lucky man usually
finds himself the recipient of chocolates.
One month later on White Day, 14th March,
it’s men’s turn to reciprocate by giving gifts to all
the ladies who gave them chocolate earlier. There’s
a bit of a catch though: the gift a man gives to a woman
should be three times the value of the woman’s original
gift!
Originally called Marshmallow Day, White Day
takes its name from the fact that initially the confections
given to ladies on this holiday were made of white
marshmallow. Nowadays, treats such as white
chocolate are a popular choice. White Day is also
celebrated in South Korea and Taiwan.

日 本 人 慶 祝 的 情 人 節 有 兩 個 , 無 論 男 女 也 有 機 會 收
到 情 人 節 禮 物 。 在 傳 統 的 二 月 十 四 日 情 人 節 , 女 士 會 為 心
儀 的 男 性 甚 至 男 同 事 送 上 朱 古 力 , 表 達 愛 意 或 敬 意 。
到 了 三 月 十 四 日 白 色 情 人 節 , 便 是 男 士 們 回 禮 的 重
要 日 子 。 這 天 男 士 會 向 曾 送 朱 古 力 給 他 們 的 女 士 送 上 禮
物 , 價 值 更 是 他 們 收 到 的 朱 古 力 的 三 倍 呢 !
白 色 情 人 節 最 初 名 為 「 糖 果 贈 送 日 」, 由 於 當 時 人
們 贈 送 的 糖 果 多 以 白 糖 造 成 , 因 此 後 來 改 稱 為 白 色 情 人
節 。 時 至 今 日 , 白 朱 古 力 成 為 不 少 人 的 送 禮 之 選 , 這 個 節
日 近 年 在 韓 國 和 台 灣 也 流 行 起 來 。
