in sixteen columns, showing at a glance the number <strong>of</strong> men in each rank,<br />

<strong>and</strong> the number <strong>of</strong> ranks, <strong>and</strong> parts requisite for any given formation, etc., for<br />

a force numbering from 100 <strong>to</strong> 20,000 men. Cataneo observes, however,<br />

that it is almost impossible that so many men should be engaged all at once ;<br />
